Canutillo ISD Ballet Folklorico represents community at state
CANUTILLO — Representing
the community of Canutillo
in a state competition was a
dream come true for the proud
members of the Grupo Folklórico Cuauthli, a school and community
program designed to teach cultural awareness through
dance and music.
Although the goal of the Grupo Folkflórico Cuauthli is not
to prepare members for competition but rather to ensure that
each member acquires professional qualities to succeed in the
future, group members decided to give themselves the opportunity
to experience a new challenge by accepting the invitation
to perform in a state competition held recently in Bastrop,
Texas, according to Jorge Valenzuela, Canutillo ISD Folklorico
program coordinator.
“The group worked very hard to prepare for this competition.
There was a lot of tension about facing the unknown.
Nevertheless, our love for dancing and performing kept us focused,”
Valenzuela said.
He said each member gave his or her best. “We came back
with the satisfaction of having represented our community with
dignity, as we competed with 35 other folklorico groups from
throughout the state. It was truly an enriching experience for
each of the group participants,” Valenzuela said.
“We are very grateful to Dr. Pam Padilla, CISD superintendent,
for her support. She has always shown that she truly believes
in offering our students and community diverse opportunities
for professional and personal growth,” Valenzuela
added. For more information about the group, contact
Valenzuela at 256-0719.
