la figura
professionale
the professional role
quali grafica, design industriale e architettura.
Interior designers design indoor spaces: residential homes, shops,
banks, hotels, trade fair stands and museum exhibition areas.
These professionals can develop their own experience autonomously
or become high-profile complementary figures in important architect
and design studios.
Interior designers not only have to observe taste trends and style evolution
in the social-cultural context, but also have to understand and
interpret customer needs and specific expectations, mediating them
with all the problems concerning the implementation of a design project.
This mediation must not in any case limit the creativity and
expressive freedom that characterise great designers, who are capable
of leaving their own unmistakable mark in their projects however
respecting customer needs.
All these abilities develop through the acquisition of a deep sensitivity
towards design and a multidisciplinary culture.
The creation of atmospheres characterised by great visual impact, the
development of particular attention being given to materials, finishings,
colours, technical and aesthetic details, without forgetting to pay
specific attention to new technologies: all these factors determine the
success and innovation of a project and are part of the cultural background
of an interior designer.
In brief, a professional figure capable of taking the role of the interlocutor
of the whole project system which penetrates various disciplines
including graphics, industrial design and architecture.

PROGETTO DI TESI
Dissertation project
progettuali complesse.
autonomia progettuale. I gruppi di lavoro sono
seguiti da uno staff composto da
docenti/professionisti e assistenti. Il progetto di
tesi è generalmente gestito in collaborazione con
partner esterni, Aziende, Enti pubblici e privati,
Associazioni che svolgono una funzione di reali
committenti del progetto. La progettazione è
supportata da seminari specifici sull’argomento
trattato con approfondimenti nelle aree culturali,
tecnologiche e di mercato. Temi e modalità
organizzative vengono definiti e comunicati
all’inizio di ciascun Anno Accademico.
Dissertation projects envisage the organisation of
il percorso
formativo
education pathway
La formazione prevede un percorso
all’interno delle varie discipline, che si
svolge attraverso esperienze dirette di
progettazione, dapprima a livello
in contesti nuovi proponendo soluzioni inedite.
studente acquisisce consapevolezza e competenza nelle specifiche aree
This education pathway envisages many interdisciplinary moments, that
evolve through direct design project activities, beginning at a foundation level,
moving on to a more in-depth level through the acquisition of traditional
visualisation techniques, the knowledge of materials, production techniques
and hands on training on professional (hardware and software) tools.
A sound humanistic cultural background is given exactly the same degree of
importance: cultural, philosophical, psychological, anthropological,
sociological and economic tools place our students in a position to truly
understand realities and to intervene in new contexts, proposing new
innovative solutions. Moreover, both theoretical and operative methodological
competencies, together with the confidence to present and outline projects,
represent an indispensable part of this training programme.
This training course is structured into six six-month modules, for a total
duration of three academic years, each one with specific objectives.
The first year is dedicated to preparatory activities, which constitute the
foundations of basic training, cultural references, tools and rules that
distinguish and characterise aptitudes and attitudes towards projects.
The second year concentrates on methodology and guided projects.
The student acquires awareness and competencies in specific professional
fields through supervised practical exercises, the study of technical
disciplines, lessons on culture, with particular attention given to how contexts,
markets and languages are constantly changing.
The third year is dedicated to advanced project design and to professional
role-play simulation, tackling the design project competencies and skills of
professionals in various sectors.
The peak moment in the last six-month module is the dissertation project
which is complex and highly structured. These projects are carried out as
teams in collaboration with Public Institutions or Companies that collaborate
with the Istituto Europeo di Design with the aim of devising original and
innovative solutions.
Students are spurred to acquire operative autonomy, to learn to make
coherent and reasoned choices, to establish relationships with customers and
to take on specific responsibilities. This semi-professional experience
represents a “winning card” for graduates when they enter the job market.
Teaching is entrusted to professionals from various sectors in a view to tackle
the rapid ongoing changes, in various national and international production
contexts, directly in the contents of courses.
The basic training course we have just described, constitutes an obligatory
part of the programme that all the students have to follow and sit exams and
tests on.
Throughout these three years, project workshops, cultural seminars, entrance
into competitions, cycles of conferences, special projects, visits to companies
and production plants are constantly proposed.
Participation in these activities is complementary to the basic training path
and is an integrated part of it. Practical activities carried out either individually
or in the school laboratories are also fundamental and an integrated part of
the education pathway.
