Shapes, structures and techniques come not only from experience, but also from an idea of the shoe quality that ANDREW inherited from the tradition of the master shoemakers of Montebelluna. HAND CUT Depending on the characteristics of the upper, the model-maker choses the leather to cut, selecting it for the quality and in order to reduce the discards. He uses the shoemaker’s knife and paper stamps to cut the leather. He lays the leather on a specific tablet, and cuts it. A long experience and a great manual ability are indispensable. COSTRUZIONE NORVEGESE NORWEGIAN WELTED NORWEGIAN WELTED Is one of the most complex techniques of shoemaking: it is particularly elaborated, it takes a long time in realizing it and it requests a great manual ability. Its realization starts after the upper has been properly shaped. Two seams are necessary: the first one ties the upper to the insole, while the second one fixes the upper to the midsole that will be stuck to the sole. This complex and fascinating process is perfect for those who chose a strong, solid, long-lasting shoe. GOODYEAR + WELT PROCESSING This long and delicate processing, originally from England, makes the realization of extremely comfortable, long-lasting and elegant shoes possible. In the processing of Goodyear, the welt, a strip of soft leather, is seamed to the edge of the leather insole, fixing together also the upper and the lining. The sole is then seamed. In the space between the insole and the sole a shock absorbing midsole is applied. The final result rewards the great ability and the extreme precision necessary to this technique of processing. HAND TRIMMING Manifacturing that is part of the long and delicate finishing work shoe, aimed at eliminating the imperfections in the edges of the soles and heel. Unlike most of the other companies of footwear that use soles already ready and smoothed, Andrew perform this delicate manufacturing strictly by hand, using the skill and experience of its own shoe makers. Requires a high manual skill to avoid compromising the final image of the shoe. 5
