Dear colleagues,
With 2019 drawing to a close, this is
the perfect time to look back over an
intensive and change-packed year.
The process we began of renewing
our service is now in full flow and is
delivering positive results despite the
downturn the global market has seen
in recent months.
We have improved the integration of
production flow management through
more effective cooperation between
our company and our suppliers and
have also extended our production control
system: These actions have allowed
us to reduce our delivery times.
We have also seen an increase in
exports and have enjoyed excellent
cooperation with our partners. We have
shared and discussed results during
the course of numerous international
visits and have further consolidated
our community, which is now
operating synergically in all parts of
the world. The expositions we have
taken part have provided excellent
opportunities to understand our world
better and to highlight the added value
of our products and services.
We have confirmed our support for
ANT, Doctors Without Borders and
UNICEF this year too. The money we
have collected will help to save human
lives and to bring hope to people
in need. This is a cause we should
all be proud to support.
Thank you for everything you have
done this year. We shall continue to
work together, with renewed passion,
next year, and shall look to the future
with confidence and determination.

Cari Colleghi,
con il 2019 che volge al termine, questo
è il momento migliore per ripercorrere
un anno intenso e pieno di
cambiamenti.
Abbiamo intrapreso un processo di rinnovamento
del servizio che è entrato
in piena operatività e i risultati sono
positivi nonostante la flessione mondiale
dei mercati degli ultimi mesi.
Abbiamo migliorato la gestione integrata
dei flussi produttivi mediante
una maggiore integrazione fra le nostre
aziende e i fornitori e ampliato il
sistema di controllo della produzione,
azioni che ci hanno permesso di ridurre
i tempi di consegna.
Abbiamo registrato una crescita dell’export
e riscontrato una grande solidità
nelle relazioni con i nostri partner.
Risultati che abbiamo condiviso e approfondito
nel corso delle numerose
visite a livello internazionale, rafforzando
quella community che a qualsiasi
latitudine opera in maniera sinergica.
Anche le manifestazioni fieristiche
sono state una bella occasione
per far conoscere la nostra realtà,
mettendo in luce il valore di quanto
realizziamo ogni giorno.
Abbiamo confermato anche quest’anno
il nostro sostegno ad ANT, Medici
Senza Frontiere e UNICEF. I soldi che
abbiamo raccolto serviranno a salvare
vite umane e a portare speranza alle
persone bisognose. È una causa che
tutti dobbiamo sentirci orgogliosi di
sostenere.
Grazie di tutto quello che avete fatto, Vi
aspetto nel nuovo anno per continuare a
lavorare insieme con passione guardando

EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION AS A KEY
RESOURCE FOR THE FUTURE

COME RISORSA PER IL FUTURO
A healthy, virtuous company cannot
be identified from turnover alone.
The teamwork and sense of belonging
of its employees are particularly
important. Varvel recently decided
to improve and strengthen its company
climate as a means to achieving
excellence. The company asked
Ethicjobs to organize a survey to
measure the level of satisfaction
among its employees, in the belief
that reward-based policies form the
basis for a positive and constructive
company life. The survey was carried
out using an anonymous questionnaire
drawn up for the purpose.
All employees were involved and
scores for five macro-areas were
analyzed and measured: climate
and relationships, pay and benefits,
work-life balance, safety and suitability
of spaces and tools, and personal
considerations. Overall, the
assessment was positive and confirms
the commitment and attention
of the company's owners with regard
to human resources. Managing
Director Mauro Cominoli made
the following comment: “We are satisfied
with the direction we have
taken. This Ethicjobs survey has
presented us with a positive picture
overall and has also identified areas
where we can still improve.

The Ethicjobs survey, however, is
not an end in itself, just a starting
point for continuous work aimed at
ensuring a stimulating and rewarding
environment and a happy, talented
workforce.

L'azienda ha affidato
a Ethicjobs, un'indagine per
misurare lo stato di soddisfazione
del proprio personale, nella convinzione
che politiche premianti siano
alla base di una vita aziendale
positiva e costruttiva.
Lo studio, condotto attraverso un
questionario anonimo dedicato, ha
coinvolto tutti i dipendenti e coperto,
analizzato, misurato con specifica
votazione cinque macro-aree: clima
e rapporti, retribuzione e benefit,
equilibrio vita privata-lavoro, sicurezza
ed adeguatezza di spazi e
strumenti, persona. In generale il
bilancio è stato positivo e premia
l’impegno e l’attenzione che la proprietà
e il management hanno sempre
posto nei confronti delle risorse
umane. Il Managing Director Mauro
Cominoli ha così commentato: “Siamo
soddisfatti del percorso che abbiamo
intrapreso. I risultati di Ethicjobs
ci restituiscono un quadro generale
positivo, ulteriormente migliorabile
proprio grazie a quanto
emerso”. L'indagine non rappresenta
un punto di arrivo, ma solo il primo
passo di un percorso che punta
all’implementazione continua di un
contesto lavorativo stimolante e premiante
per il benessere dei propri
dipendenti quanto il loro talento.

A story of recognized and acclaimed excellence:
last July, ViaEmilianet, a weekly
economics program produced by TRC, a
popular local TV channel, broadcast a service
on companies in the Emilia Romagna
region committed to sustainability in addition
to the usual parameters in their financial
reports. Varvel was one of the companies
the program presented, as a socially
responsible enterprise that has always
published a sustainability report. The
program presented figures and statistics
reflecting the image of a company oriented
to growth and development
and with an approach designed
to interpret market
changes and welcome the
new, global challenges of
Industry 4.0.
On top of a turnover of
around 50 million euros,
the most important indicator
of a prosperous future
is our consolidation of excellent
financial control parameters.
Earnings before interest,
taxes, depreciation, and
amortization (EBIDTA)
were 3 million euros,
pointing to a level of
profitability average for
the sector. The program also focused
on developments in exports,
currently up at 66%, and
likely to become the main driver
of future growth.

di curare, oltre all’ob bligatorio bilancio contabile, anche quello di
sostenibilità. Tra queste Varvel, impresa socialmente responsabile
da sempre impegnata nell’elaborazione e diffusione di questo documento.
Durante il servizio sono stati presentati numeri
importanti che riflettono l’immagine di un’azienda orientata
allo sviluppo e alla crescita, attraverso un approccio capace
di interpretare le evoluzioni del mercato e raccogliere
le nuove sfide globali dell’Industria 4.0.
Oltre a un fatturato che si attesta intorno ai 50 milioni
di euro, il segnale più significativo e che delinea
uno scenario positivo per il futuro è rappresentato
dal consolidamento di ottimi parametri dal
punto di vista della gestione finanziaria. Il margine
ope rativo lordo (EBIDTA) si attesta infatti
a 3 milioni di euro, con una reddittività in linea
con la media del settore. Infine, è stata data attenzione agli sviluppi
dell’export: in salita al 66%, rappresenterà nei prossimi anni il
principale driver di sviluppo.

Six Sigma method
Varvel has grown through decisive periods
over the years before adopting the current
strategy for production and sales. The philosophy
of sharing ideas and valorizing human
resources inspired by our President,
Francesco Berselli, has played an important
role in this process. This vision today encompasses
the flexibility of Lean Production,
indispensable to identifying the needs
of our customers and designing work flows
to ensure their satisfaction.
When this system is complemented by the
“Six Sigma” method, the consequent simplification
and streamlining of processes
leads to a significant improvement of performance
on the market. Thanks to an approach
based on data, Varvel has succeeded
in eliminating a great deal of “wasted effort”
and implementing tailor-made methodology.
The result is the Varvel Mechnology System,
a "change accelerator" that, by
monitoring every step, understanding
real customer needs and dividing
work into specific objectives,
is presently guiding production
at Varvel.
Among the main steps in
our strategic plan is the introduction
of advanced
data analysis systems.
The reports these systems
generate identify
and correct weak points
in the production chain.
This is an essential step
towards focusing on the
factors that have the greatest
influence on the process,
introducing the improvements
needed to maximize earnings, and
concentrating on the customization and
differentiation of production.
Il percorso di crescita di Varvel, ha attraversato
molte fasi decisive per giungere alla
definizione della sua attuale strategia produttiva
e commerciale. Un processo a cui
ha contribuito, in maniera determinante, la
filosofia della condivisione delle idee e della
valorizzazione delle risorse, ispirata dal Presidente
Francesco Berselli: una visione che
racchiude la componente di flessibilità della
Lean Production, il modello produttivo indispensabile
per identificare le esigenze del
cliente e impostare i flussi delle attività in
funzione del suo soddisfacimento.

snellimento dei processi risultano coincidere
con l’incremento delle

Grazie ad un approccio

System, l’”acceleratore di cambiamento”

Quality is not confined to products alone,
but also permeates services. Knowing this,
Varvel has always paid the greatest attention
to every aspect of the supply chain. Continuous
customer assistance plays a decisive
role. By minimizing distances and response
times, our distribution network delivers
excellent global service to our international
customers. A recent case, successfully
resolved in only three days confirms
this. On the first day, a problem was reported
with a gearbox installed in Bulgaria on a
machine made by a South African OEM.
Our South African distributor, BMG, asked
our after-sales department to find a solution.
After a rapid but thorough assessment of
the application, the type of maintenance
needed was identified. On the second day,
our after-sales department and BMG, along
with our Bulgarian partner, IOW, checked
on the availability of spare parts and scheduled
the maintenance work for the next day.
IOW completed the necessary work at dawn
on the third day, to the complete satisfaction
of the customer. This case demonstrates
the importance of close cooperation between
active partners like those in the Varvel
community. Thanks to teamwork of this kind,
we can guarantee a high level of flexibility
and availability, supply uniformly excellent
standards of quality all over the world and
offer expert advice wherever it is needed.

EFFICIENCY
La qualità non si esprime soltanto nei prodotti,
ma anche nei servizi e in questo Varvel
ha sempre posto grande attenzione a tutta
la filiera. L’assistenza ai propri Clienti è
costante e determinante. Ad abbattere le
distanze e con esse anche le tempistiche è
la rete di distribuzione che garantisce un
servizio globale per i clienti internazionali.
A confermarlo, un recente caso di successo,
risolto in soli tre giorni. Durante il primo è
avvenuta la segnalazione della problematica
riguardante il riduttore installato in Bulgaria
sulla macchina prodotta da un OEM
sudafricano. Il distributore sudafricano BMG
ha chiesto una soluzione al nostro dipartimento
post-vendita che dopo una rapida e
attenta verifica dell’ applicazione, ha stabilito
il tipo di manutenzione necessaria. Il secondo
giorno il reparto post-vendita e BMG,
insieme al partner in Bulgaria IOW, hanno
verificato la disponibilità dei pezzi di ricambio
e programmano la manutenzione per il
giorno successivo. All’alba del terzo giorno
IOW ha effettuato la manutenzione, con
piena soddisfazione del Cliente. Questa esperienza
testimonia l’importanza della collaborazione
tra partner reali, come quelli che
caratterizzano la community di Varvel. Mediante
la cooperazione, l’azienda è in grado
di garantire un elevato livello di flessibilità e
disponibilità fornendo standard qualitativi altissimi
e uniformi alle diverse latitudini, portando
la propria competente consulenza

We got excellent feedback and lots of new
leads from the EUROPACK EUROMANUT
CFIA exposition in Lyon which Varvel enthusiastically
participated in last November.
This exposition covers the entire production
process, from raw material processing right
through to packaging, handling and logistics
and offers a truly all-round perspective.
The event plays such an important role precisely
because it offers solutions for all
phases of the industrial production process.
Our participation enabled us to meet specialists
who showed great interest in our
offering and understood the added value
of Varvel products. The exposition is organized
into theme-based areas corresponding
to the challenges facing manufacturing
industries, and lets visitors view new products,
demos and functioning machines and
enjoy networking opportunities. The show
allowed us to demonstrate our know-how
applied to solutions and services that respond
effectively to the needs of an expanding
global market. The feedback we
received showed that Varvel is increasingly
seen as an international player of great potential,
with recognized quality and competence
expressed not only in our product
range but in our design and after-sales
services too. The exposition provided welcome
confirmation that we are on the right
path and a stimulus to continue growing.

movimentazione e alla
logistica, permettendo di
esaminare tutti gli aspetti a 360°.
Questo evento svolge un ruolo determinante
perché propone diverse soluzioni legate a
tutte le fasi della produzione industriale.
La nostra partecipazione ci ha permesso
di incontrare un pubblico specializzato che
ha dimostrato molto interesse per la nostra
offerta, dimostrando di comprendere il valore
aggiunto dei prodotti made in Varvel.
La kermesse offre, infatti, aree tematiche
corrispondenti alle sfide nel settore manifatturiero,
con nuovi prodotti, dimostrazioni,
macchinari in funzione e opportunità di networking.

in numerous meetings and events,
come involving trips to European and overseas
countries to share plans for growth
and operational decisions and to visit prestigious
international packaging sector trade
shows. Varvel's journey down the road of
innovation knows no limits
Anche questo trimestre ha visto il Gruppo
impegnato in numerosi meeting e momenti
di confronto: trasferte nel Continente Europeo
e Oltreoceano per condividere progetti
di crescita e decisioni operative, ma anche
prestigiose kermesse internazionali nell’ambito
del packaging. Il viaggio di Varvel lungo
la strada dell’innovazione continua e non
conosce confini.
From 16 to 20 September, Area Manager Cristian Fiorani was in Vietnam visiting representatives
of our distributor, Nam Phat Technical Service Co. Ltd., at their offices in Hanoi
and Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to delivering the usual technical and commercial training
sessions, Cristian also had a chance to meet and chat with local OEMs.

From 28 to 31 July, Kelly Mac Iver, BMG’s
Gears Manager, made his first visit to our
group's headquarters. The trip was a great
opportunity for him to meet our Italian
staff and take part in an important technical
and commercial training session.
SOUTH AFRICA
The Varvel Group’s branch in Chennai,
India, MGM-Varvel Power
Transmission Pvt Ltd, hosted a
meeting to close the first half of
its 2019/2020 business year. General
Manager Mauro Cominoli and
Sales Manager Francesco Pederzoli
were both present. The visitors
also attended the Sales Meeting
of the subsidiary’s Territory Managers.

the meeting, they examined the end-of-year financial
statement and planned the budget and
investments for 2020.
Along with our dealer, Iow Trade, Varvel took part
in TAROPAK in Poznan (Poland) from 30 September
to 3 October. Taropak is one of Europe’s top expositions
for the latest technological solutions in industrial
packaging.
