ENGLISH - The history of Selle Italia is made of victories... 

dreamed, followed and achieved. For Selle Italia tradition 

is 115 years (1897-2012) of achievement and an industrial 

and sport adventure lived day by day with the same 

undying passion. Innovate or remain faithful to tradition? 

Both. All too easy, when one’s tradition is that of 

inventing as well as constantly exploring new concepts, 

construction methods and materials. But nothing is 

improvised: only those with the time, experience and 

an undying passion - the fundamental values of Selle 

Italia - can succeed. We have been carrying out this 

activity for over one hundred years, perfecting it while 

working leather and steel, interpreting saddle needs over 

the decades. Selle Italia is a pioneer in the creation of 

technological innovations specifically designed for the 

male and the female anatomy; it introduced the use of 

gel and has achieved otherwise unthinkable levels of 

lightweight and comfort, setting new standards in bicycle 

saddle aesthetics. But above all, it has turned the saddle 

from a mere component of the bicycle into a factor of 

well-being for the rider, ultimately making it a cult object 

for athletes. Just as it was 100 years ago manual skills 

and technology, tradition and research are the hallmarks 

of Selle Italia Made in Italy an emblem recognised 

throughout the world.

zu Siegen führten. Auch die 115 Jahre, die unser 

Unternehmen nun schon tätig ist (1897-2012), 

kommen für uns einem Sieg gleich. Einem industriellen 

und sportlichen Abenteuer, das wir Tag für Tag mit 

der gleichen unermüdlichen Leidenschaft erleben. 

Innovation oder der Tradition treu bleiben? Beides. Und

besteht, kontinuierlich neue Ansätze, neue Techniken

Für Improvisation ist dabei kein Platz. Erfolg hat nur, wer 

Tradition und Erfahrung auf seiner Seite hat und eine 

unermüdliche Leidenschaft mitbringt: die Werte, die 

im Mittelpunkt der Philosophie von Selle Italia stehen. 

Seit über hundert Jahren üben wir bereits diesen Beruf 

aus. Wir haben gelernt, Leder und Stahl zu verarbeiten, 

und waren über Jahrzehnte hinweg unmittelbar an der 

Weiterentwicklung des Sattels beteiligt. Selle Italia kann 

zu Recht als Wegbereiter der Entwicklung spezieller 

Technologien bezeichnet werden, die gezielt auf die 

männliche und die weibliche Anatomie abgestimmt sind. 

So hat Selle Italia die Verwendung von Gel eingeführt und 

damit einen Sitzkomfort erreicht, der zuvor undenkbar 

war. Auch in Sachen Superleichtgewicht und innovatives 

Design setzte unser Betrieb Maßstäbe. Vor allem aber hat

zu Kultgegenständen für Profiradsportler geworden sind. 

Handwerkliches Geschick und Technologie, Tradition 

und Forschung sind heute wie vor hundert Jahren die

C’est même trop facile quand sa propre tradition est 

celle d’inventer, explorer constamment de nouveaux 

principes, de nouvelles techniques constructives, 

de nouveaux matériaux. Mais rien ne s’improvise : 

seuls ceux qui ont de leur côté la force du temps, de 

l’expérience et une passion dévorante y parviennent : les 

valeurs qui fondent Selle Italia. Nous faisons ce métier 

depuis plus de cent ans, nous l’avons appris en travaillant 

le cuir et l’acier et nous sommes devenus interprètes 

de l’évolution de la selle à travers les décennies. Selle

Italia a été le précurseur dans la réalisation de découvertes 

technologiques étudiées de manière spécifique pour la 

conformation anatomique masculine et féminine, elle a 

introduit l’utilisation du gel et a atteint des niveaux de confort 

et de légèreté impensables auparavant, en établissant de 

nouveaux canons dans l’esthétique de la selle. 

Mais surtout elle a transformé la selle, d’une simple pièce 

de la bicyclette, en un facteur de bien-être pour ceux qui 

pédalent, jusqu’à la rendre un objet de culte pour les athlètes.

first firm in the sector to obtain quality management certification according to 

ISO 9001:2008 standards. The attention to detail and the meticulous choice of 

materials are a guarantee of absolute reliability. 

Also, all the design and creation phases of our products comply with the latest 

safety standards, thus guaranteeing absolute reliability. 

One of the key points of our saddle sector has always been the choice of 

carefully selected and worked “full grain” leathers. Leather requires skilful manual 

working and precisely for that reason it represents quality and style. Moreover, 

unlike synthetic materials, it offers the advantage of favouring breathability and 

limiting surface adherence. All the leathers used comply with the Washington 

Convention (CITES).

(CITES) entspricht.
