ERDC/CRREL TR-12-11 7 3 Final 2012 NWPL Appendix A provides the national list of the 2012 wetland ratings for the 7731 species, arranged alphabetically by species with their authorities and common names. Their wetland ratings are shown in columns by the ten Corps wetland regions, which are given using the acronyms provided in Table 3. Table 3. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regions. The South Pacific Islands (SPI), including Guam and Samoa, are a subregion under Hawaii. There are 180 distinct wetland species for the SPI. Many of these also occur in Hawaii, but the ratings in the subregion list are specific for use in that subregion. Two subregions were developed within the contiguous 48 states: one in the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain (AGCP) region and the other in the Northcentral and Northeast (NCNE) region. The subregion in the AGCP, the Western Gulf Coast, has 13 species with wetland ratings that differ from those in the rest of the AGCP. The subregion in the NCNE, the North Central Great Lakes, has 2 species with wetland ratings that differ from those in the rest of the NCNE region. In Alaska, 15 subregions were established, with 9 plant species and 34 wetland ratings. These ratings differ from those in the rest of the AK region. Maps and ratings for the subregions are shown in Appendices B–D and on the website.
ERDC/CRREL TR-12-11 8 This national list does not include any synonyms; it only shows the currently accepted names. There are close to 30,000 synonyms associated with these current names, which is too long a list to publish and is not practical for field use. To find older names from dated floras and other references, use the NWPL website (http://wetland_plants.usace.army.mil/), where you can enter a scientific name into the search box, and hit “Search.” The synonym will appear in a column on the right side of the screen; clicking on the name you have searched for will take you to the current name and species information page. Also, lists of synonyms for various plant lists are provided on the web page under “Display List” and “Other Lists,” where you can select “See All Synoymns.” The synonyms are displayed in alphabetical order in one column, and they correspond to the current scientific name in an adjoining column.
