Research interests
Antonella Castellano is a neuroradiologist with a strong research
interest in the field of MR imaging. She is interested in the
development and clinical application of advanced MRI techniques
such as Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and Tractography, and
Perfusion MRI. Her studies were primarily focused on brain tumor
pathology. Since 2005 she actively collaborated with the
Neuroradiology Unit and CERMAC and participated in the
optimization and implementation on a 3 Tesla scanner of
tractography in the preoperative planning of brain tumors. In the
same year, she was involved in a project of in vivo validation of MR
Tractography by correlation with intraoperative subcortical stimulation
data, carried out with the Division of Neurosurgery, Dept. of
Neurological Sciences, Università di Milano, supervised by Prof.
Lorenzo Bello. The results of this study were the object of her degree
thesis, were published in 2008 (Bello et al, Neuroimage 39, 369-82)
and are currently highly cited (3-yrs C.Ind. 51). Tractography is now
part of clinical advanced preoperative MR studies in San Raffaele
Hospital, with more than 300 patients studied in the last four years.
Recently, the candidate has been interested in exploring diffusion
metrics with a quantitative approach, in order to better characterize
structural features of pathological tissue.
