As Kingfishers Catch Fire was commissioned by the Britten Sinfonia and first performed (under its original title, Divertimento) by Michael Cox (flute), Joy Farrall (clarinet), Lucy Wakeford (harp), Jacqueline Shave (violin I), Miranda Dale (violin II), Martin Outram (viola) and Caroline Dearnley (cello) at the Filharmonic Hall, Krakow, Poland on 16 th December 2007. Instrumentation: for online perusal only Flute (doubling Piccolo) Clarinet in B Harp Violin I Violin II Viola Violoncello Performance Notes: Strings: pizzicato harmonics should always be released and allowed to ring as much as possible (the effect should mimic the sound of the harp).
