Completed in 1972, Celtic Dances opens with a mysterious Allegro vivace, developing from a flowing quaver motif into the first dance theme. This is followed by an Allegro leggiero with descending melodic theme, which proceeds an altogether more regal Andante con moto. The work ends with a fast paced and rhythmic Allegro con slancio in dramatic fashion.
