Bold and Beautiful

Bold and Beautiful Beginning with three megayachts from two award-winning shipyards who continue to take the breath away, herewith a guide to the new developments and launches from the major yacht builders – and one special anniversary. By Cornelia Marioglou Abeking & Rasmussen M/Y ELANDESS “Walking through Elandess, no two spaces feel the same: each area has its own character, creating drama and interest at every turn,” explains Harrison Eidsgaard about one of its recent feted projects, the 74.5m M/Y Elandess. Delivered last July, it is a steel and aluminium yacht with axe bow and dark hull, which was styled inside and out by the London-based studio. A plethora of spectacular indoor and outdoor spaces makes this yacht shine bright, from the dining and sitting rooms, where standout works of art sit above collectible furniture pieces, to the enchanting Neptune Lounge. In a space below the waterline, arranged like an ancient theatre, guests enjoy both a submarinelike below-the-water perspective while under way through windows that are three metres high and nearly five metres wide. In January of this year, the ship was the unsurprising winner of four Neptune trophies at the Boat International Awards, another feather in the cap of the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard based near Bremen, Germany. Of the more than 6,500 vessels on the books since the firm’s founding in 1907, surely Elandess is one of the most memorable. abeking.com PHOTOS CXXXXXXXXX 66 CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM

Along with M/Y DAR (see following page), Bravo Eugenia epitomises the Dutch shipyard’s winning style. “Our approach was to maintain a stunningly sleek profile without sacrificing any interior space,” said designer Dan Lenard of the 109m superyacht. “This new exterior style concept is bound to create a new design stream,” adds Lenard, the senior partner of Nuvolari Lenard who also worked with Oceanco on the ground-breaking Alfa Nero in 2007. Launched last November, the yacht is truly unique, with naval architecture by Lateral Naval Architects, whose managing director, James Roy, was part of the extensive winter sea trials in the North Sea. She cruises with minimal resistance in the water, he explains, and as a result needs less power thanks to her single-tier engine. The interior, which sleeps 14 guests and 30 crew, is exceptionally elegant, designed by Bath-based firm Reymond Langton with light woods and lacquered surfaces and contrasting accents of walnut and ebony. “We worked very closely with the owner to find the perfect artisans and craftsmen to create bespoke artworks, fabrics and signature furniture pieces that reflect the owner’s style and essence,” says Pascale Reymond. “They combine to create a warm, inviting environment for all on board.” oceancoyacht.com CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM 67
