|From the Editor| Dreaming is a luxury that doesn’t cost a cent. In its purest form, there are no strings attached and no messy practicalities – just the freedom to let our minds wander. On the Cover It’s something too few of us do in our work lives, which is why an increasing number of companies are appointing “Chief Dream Officers” to keep creative inspiration flowing amid all the deadlines and dealmaking. The rarity of true dreamers is also why it is so energising to see visionaries who steadfastly face years of challenges, snags and obstacles to turn their dreams into reality. In this issue of Centurion, we celebrate these fearless dreamers, starting with Joss Kent, who we accompany to Bhutan (page 80). We learn about his extraordinary series of leaps of faith, from leaving his family travel business to creating one of Africa’s leading safari-camp brands – and his efforts to bring this very Africa-centric concept to the Himalayas’ happiest nation. We also find out why the Bhutanese King himself is welcoming Kent’s dream as part of the country’s push towards greater sustainability and innovation. Elsewhere, we visit Dubai (page 72), where we speak with a handful of mindful entrepreneurs and artists who are at the forefront of the city’s transition from a gilt-edged stopover to a community with a thriving local spirit. Other creative sparks make appearances throughout the issue, from Provence, France, to the Engadin Valley in Switzerland and the burgeoning cities of Singapore and Istanbul. GRACING THIS issue’s cover is a piece by French-Vietnamese photographer Jean- Baptiste Huynh. Across the past two decades, the self-taught talent’s vast body of work aims to explore “gaze, self-image, light, timelessness and the relation to infinity”. Boule de feu (2009) – “fireball” in English – is part of a six-year study of light in all its forms which was the subject of a 2012 exhibition at the Louvre in Paris. I hope you enjoy meeting these dreamers – and reading this issue – as much as we have. — Christian Schwalbach 10 CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM
