Zero-defect solutions

Zero-defect solutions Omron presents VT-S730-H in the EPP 3D-AOI Arena Without reliable sensor-, camera- and computer systems, mobile and fully autonomous processes will not function in a world of the future. But what happens if these electrical systems fail or have been manufactured with undetected faults? Omron is already addressing this problem today. High-speed automated X-ray CT inspection system VT-X750 is no question about it, that unmanned vehicles, e-Mobility „There and artificial intelligence will become technical normality. It is therefore all the more important to exclude residual risks, in order to avoid possible damage. For this reason Omron developed the Zero Defect concept, that is applied precisely there“, stated Kevin Youngs, European Sales Manager at Omron Europe B.V., Automated Inspection Systems Division Europe. the Zero Defect concept includes a 100% inspection of assemblies within and beyond the SMT process. 3D-AOI high-speed systems are also integrated in this concept, such as the VT-S730-H, that Omron will present in the EPP 3D-AOI arena at the Productronica 2019. The VT-S730-H is a 3D inspection machine for the authentic 3D inspection of components and soldering joints. It enables the quantification of soldering joint forms with a greatly improved accuracy and reduced number of pseudo defects. For the most part the Post Reflow inspection systems of the VT-S730 series are used in production lines for quality control, in particular in the automotive industry. The series is based on a combination of phaseshift and the color image processing technology „Color Highlight“ developed by Omron, 3D form-reconstruction technology. Furthermore the VT-S730-H is equipped with the 3D-SJI technology. In addition the inspection system has been equipped with a fast image acquisition module, through which the VT-S730-H works twice as fast as the predecessor VT-S730. „As an AOI system, the VT-S730-H is part of a Zero Defect production. It involves the complete inspection of the electronic assemblies as well as the associated components, which contributes towards satisfying the quality requirements of the automotive industry to the fullest extent. For instance, in today‘s vehicles but also in those of the future more and more electronic safety components are being integrated, that are necessary for autonomous driving. The number of components and sub assemblies are becoming more and more extensive, from camera systems, sensor systems and wireless communication interfaces through to intelligent light systems and navigation aids. A 100% inspection of these assemblies are too time-consuming and are therefore currently still avoided. At the moment one works with random samples, which increases the risk of nondetection of a faulty component. We are convinced, that a complete automated inspection strategy is urgently needed and have therefore worked on necessary machines and implementations“, stated Youngs. Advertorial IoT-Solution on SMT In order to ensure a complete inspection of a process, especially in the automotive industry, inspection systems must work fast and reliably. The cycle times of the production processes must not change negatively due to the inspection. Besides the VT-S730-H, Omron also offers AOI, SPI and AXI systems, as well as AVI systems, such as the VT-M121. The VT-M121 is the first system in the world developed for an industry-wide 2D dimensional inspection of measurement and visual inspection, that enables a complete 100% inspection. „As a result 100% inspections in the specified high-speed cycle times are possible from now on“, assured Youngs. Thanks to the Omron software environment the data collected by the inspection systems and process equipment are made usable for the operator. Consequently the software Q-upAuto warns of errors or deviations in real-time. For this the data of the inspection systems and the production data from all upstream production steps are compared and analyzed. Furthermore, the quality control and the improvement of the entire inspection process can be realized with the software Q-upNavi. For this, data from every step of the inspection process are linked, evaluated and presented in graphical form. „Our inspection systems as well as the associated software landscape can replace processes that were previously based on random sample inspections. With the complete automatic inspection a zero-defect result can be achieved, which fulfills in particular the requirement of the automotive industry for high quality and a high degree of reliability. This is necessary, especially with regard to the subjects of e-Mobility and unmanned systems“, elaborated Youngs. Omron has already successfully introduced the Zero Defect concept in Japan in 2018, in cooperation with local EMS service providers.
