NEWS Philips unveils TV

NEWS Philips unveils TV innovations Philips TV says its OLED sets launching this week at IFA confirm its position as performance leader in the category The new Philips OLED 803 follows the success of the previous Philips 9002 OLED set granted more than 53 awards across all European media. Notably, the claim that the product offers a clear and distinct improvement in both picture and sound quality over its predecessor is supported by the EISA Award for Best Buy OLED TV 2018. The new set enjoys the benefits of the latest OLED technology working in combination with a new second generation version of Philips P5 Perfect Processing Engine and the three-sided Ambilight system, to create a flagship product that offers a new reference for outright TV picture quality. New OLED technology includes the latest 2018 OLED panel which features a new and improved shape to its subpixels and a new antireflective coating to allow the OLED 803 to offer better black reproduction and a 10% increase in light output to a new peak of 1000 Nits, when compared to 2017 sets. TP Vision has also become the third manufacturer to join the HDR10+ alliance and the OLED 803 is one of Philips’ first sets to offer HDR+ performance. High Dynamic Range (HDR10 or HLG) allows sets to display content with higher contrast thanks to both darker blacks and brighter whites, it also allows greater brightness levels and a wider colour palette. The new HDR10+ version is backwards compatible with HDR10 but adds dynamic metadata to allow contrast and colour to be dynamically optimised for each and every frame. Powered by the Android TV operating system, the set features an ultra-fast quad core processor and 16GB of expandable onboard memory. PHILIPS TV PARTNERS WITH BOWERS & WILKINS The exciting new partnership between Philips TV and British audio engineering company Bowers & Wilkins has revealed the first model to benefit from the companies’ combined skill sets with the launch of the Philips OLED 903 TV. The OLED 903 will launch in October – in both 55-inch and 65-inch versions – and will, Philips TV says, reset the TV performance landscape by offering a combination of picture and sound quality previously unavailable in the market. The partners believe that the OLED 903 will immediately establish a new reference point for both TV picture and sound quality and will create a viewing experience superior to any previous or current set, a fact already recognised by the TV winning the prestigious EISA Award for Best Home Theatre TV 2018. Like the OLED 803, the new set enjoys the benefits of the latest OLED technology working in combination with the new second generation version of Philips P5 Perfect Processing Engine and the three-sided Ambilight system. The sound system features new Bowers and Wilkins drivers throughout, mounted in larger, more rigid and dedicated enclosures. The rear bass enclosure features a larger low frequency drive unit with larger twin passive radiators. All are mounted in a larger enclosure, with an increased internal volume and additional ribs to stiffen the structure. The twin tweeter/mid-range units are now forward rather than downward firing. The drivers are also mounted in new stiffer enclosures. The soft dome tweeter and paper mid-range of the OLED 803 have been replaced by flush mounted 19-inch titanium tweeter and a glass-fibre mid-range – both mounted within their own sealed areas within the overall driver enclosure. PHILIPS TV AND GEORG JENSEN SHARE THE LOVE OF LIGHT Philips TV says the best of European Design is at the heart of every Philips TV and every Georg Jensen product. The two companies share a heritage of outstanding craftsmanship, the use of quality, natural materials and an understanding of the importance of light. In order to share these common values, the two companies have come together to create the 9104 TV, a product that incorporates their joint knowledge and expertise to form a design that will be available in October in 55- inch and 65-inch versions A COMBINATION OF PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY PREVIOUSLY UNAVAILABLE IN THE MARKET Hall 22 Stand 101 www.ifa-international.org IFA International • Friday 31 st August 2018 27
