LIVING ROOM LIFESTYLE

LIVING ROOM LIFESTYLE More than Ever, the World Comes to My Living Room Immersive experiences through breath-taking images and thunderous sound – the most exciting innovations come to IFA 48% The share of total TV sales dedicated to Ultra HD AVERAGE TV PRICES ON RISE WORLDWIDE According to GfK, in the first half of this year, the value increase had reached more than 1%. The analyst organisation also predicts this rate of growth for the rest of the year. Global sales of TVs will likely surpass 100 billion euro. Average spending on a TV has increased globally to €448 (from €431 last year). The reason for this development is consumer desire for larger and better equipped televisions that can satisfy individual needs. PICTURE QUALITY AS A SALES ARGUMENT New and improved technologies are also driving the TV market. Especially in terms of picture quality, a lot has happened in the past twelve months. HDR (High Dynamic Range) for improved contrast and WCG (Wider Colour Gamut) for improved spectrum of colours have further increased picture quality on Ultra-HD/4K TVs. Premium LED TV sets achieve a significantly higher brightness. Already 29% of all TVs sold in the first half of the year were Ultra HD sets. A further increase is expected in the second half of the year, so that for 2017 as a whole every third TV sold will be an Ultra HD set. Because the Ultra HD TVs generate significantly higher value than appliances that don't have Ultra HD, they now constitute 48% of TV market sales. OLED technology is also continuing to succeed and is being offered by more and more manufacturers since this year. 478,000 of these TVs were sold worldwide in the first six months of 2017. That represents an increase of 94%. GAME’S ON PC gaming hardware remained one of the most important drivers of growth for the computer and peripherals manufacturers in the B2C field in the first half of 2017 as well. In addition to desktop PCs and notebooks, gaming accessories also benefited from the continuing boom in the world of electronic games. These are GfK's findings for the global PC gaming hardware market on the occasion of IFA 2017 in Berlin. After challenging years with new technologies like tablets or smartphones, gaming PCs have developed from a niche segment to a strong selling mainstream product. This trend continued in the first half of 2017 and gaming desktop PCs managed to increase their global revenue by 55% compared to the previous year. Portable gaming PCs had a revenue increase of 24%. In total, global revenues of all gaming PCs (desktops and notebooks) in the markets measured by GfK (excluding North America) amounted to €1.5 billion. AUDIO – THE SWEET SPOT Audio is the veritable beating heart of any home entertainment system, with the entire “experience” based on the quality of the sound. Analysts Zion Research estimate, for example, that the soundbar market alone is expected to reach USD4.886bn (approx. €407bn) in 2021, growing at a CAGR of 10.6% between 2016 and 2021.
