Composer’s Note I have been very fortunate to come into contact with the fine and flourishing choral life of Japan through a number of visits to the country under the auspices of the Japan Choral Association. A very warm and happy relationship has also developed with Keiichi Asai and the Kyoto Echo Choir, and it is to them that I affectionately dedicate this set of arrangements of Japanese songs. I am very grateful to those at Pana Musica in Kyoto who suggested the selection of songs and to the poet Charles Bennett, who wrote the English singing translations. Thanks are also due to Tsuyoshi Chiba and to my friend from student days in London, Miyako Hashimoto, at whose suggestion I have dedicated the song ‘Furusato’ to the victims of the devastating Japanese earthquake of March 2011. The original mixed-voice edition of this collection was published in 2011, and I made this version in March 2012 for a workshop I gave in Kyoto for women’s choirs. for online perusal only Bob Chilcott 日 本 合 唱 連 盟 との 幸 運 な 繋 がりの 下 に 幾 度 かに 渡 る 来 日 を 重 ねる 中 で、 日 本 の 大 変 優 れた、そして 活 発 なコーラス 界 との 関 係 を 深 めて 来 れたことを 大 変 幸 せに 思 います。この 合 唱 曲 集 は、これまで 友 情 を 温 め 合 って 来 た「 合 唱 団 京 都 エコー」 と 浅 井 敬 壹 さんに 捧 げます。 曲 目 の 選 定 についてご 提 案 頂 いたパナムジカ 様 と、 英 語 の 歌 詞 の 作 詞 者 のチャールズ・ベネットさんに 心 より 感 謝 いたします。 更 に、 出 版 に 当 たってお 手 伝 い 頂 いた 千 葉 剛 さん 及 び 学 生 時 代 よりの 旧 友 の 橋 本 美 弥 子 さんにも、 感 謝 の 意 を 表 させて 頂 きます。 尚 、 橋 本 さんのご 提 案 により、 「 故 郷 」の 歌 を2011 年 3 月 の 悲 惨 な 東 北 震 災 の 被 災 者 の 方 々に 捧 げることにいた しました。オリジナルの 混 声 合 唱 版 は2011 年 に 出 版 され、この 高 声 用 の 編 曲 は 2012 年 に 京 都 で 行 った 女 声 合 唱 のワークショップのために 書 きました。 ボブ・チルコット
