NEWS ADVERTORIAL Exceptional Wines from the Isle of Beauty Corsica’s wine union, the UVIB, is present at Vinexpo Hong Kong with exceptional products, highly noted by Robert Parker, including the Prestige du Président range (white, rosé and red), and the XX270 Aléria – 100% Syrah red. Prestige du Président is a product of the earth and the sun, of sea and mountain, demonstrating all the originality of a truly exceptional wine. The wines are developed using an innovative process wherein maturity of the grapes is measured regularly and precisely with regard to sugar concentration, volume and colour. The optimum date for harvest is thus fixed, with nighttime vendanges. The red wine is a marriage of Niellucciu, Grenache and Syrah marrying beautifully with wild boar stew or a côte de boeuf on the grill. The white is 100% Vermentinu (Malvoisie) - an excellent accompaniment for a salad, seafood or grilled fish. And the rosé is a Sciaccarellu/Syrah marrying perfectly with white meats, grilled fish or Mediterranean dishes. ALÉRIA – AN AGE-OLD WINEGROWING REGION Implanted by the ancient Greeks, developed by the Etruscans and cultivated by the Romans, vines have been present in the region of Aléria in Corsica for over 2500 years. XX 270 Aléria is a 100% Syrah wine, from 30-year-old vines planted on hills between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Diana on the western side of the “Isle of Beauty”. Lower soil levels are of clay and pebbles, ensuring an ideal maturity for the grapes. Fermentation is set between 25°C and 30°C, with regular stirring in order to extract the optimum from the grapes. Total fermentation is for three weeks, allowing for the elaboration of a wine perfect for ageing. Light filtration and maturing in vats for 8 months ensures the preservation of natural aromas and a softening of the tanins. This red wine is characterised by an intense ruby robe. It is fine and rich on the nose, with a peppery character and notes of violet. In the mouth, the wine is ample and round, with final notes of silky tanins.
