AT MATINS.
"When Matins are said on the day of the burial, the Office begins directly
by the Invitatory, after the chant of the Responsory Subvenite. or after
Matins and Lauds of the day. On all other occasions, Pater, Ave, and Credo
are first said silently.
The Invitatory is said whenever there are three Noctums, even if the
Office be of semi-double rite. It is also said when there is only one Nocturn,
if the Office be of double rite. Otherwise it is omitted.
On the day of the Commemoration of all the Faithful departed, the entire
Office is said with three Noctums. On all other occasions, three Nocturns
or one Nocturn may be said at choice. If only one Nocturn be said, it varies
according to the day of the week. On Sunday, Monday, and Thursday, the
first Nocturn is said; on Tuesday and Friday, the second Nocturn; on
Wednesday and Saturday, the third. However, if only one Nocturn be said
on the day of burial, it is always the first Nocturn.
