The MBS <strong>program</strong> also offers uniquecourses <strong>in</strong> computer-based anatomy, basic humanpathology, and cl<strong>in</strong>ical medic<strong>in</strong>e.Early Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Exposure Our <strong>in</strong>troductory course <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ical medic<strong>in</strong>e gives our students a taste of patientcare even before enter<strong>in</strong>g medical school.Individual Attention Our faculty and senioradm<strong>in</strong>istration are very accessible, creat<strong>in</strong>g anurtur<strong>in</strong>g and supportive environment for our MBSstudents. Class sizes are smaller than <strong>Tufts</strong>’ medicalclasses, and each student is assigned a facultyadvisor (Academic Partner). Academic Partners eachmentor n<strong>in</strong>e MBS students or fewer on all matters ofthe <strong>program</strong>; <strong>in</strong> addition, Academic Partners serve asstudents’ personal premedical advisors.Innovative Technology Our award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g onl<strong>in</strong>ecurriculum database, known as TUSK (<strong>Tufts</strong>University Sciences Knowledge base), covers virtuallyevery course <strong>in</strong> the curriculum and conta<strong>in</strong>s a wealthof multimedia resources, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g course syllabiand texts, lecture slides, medical imag<strong>in</strong>g, videostream<strong>in</strong>g, and l<strong>in</strong>ks to full-text journal articles.Culturally Rich Environment Classes are held at theuniversity’s health <strong>sciences</strong> campus, home to several<strong>Tufts</strong> health research and teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutions. Thecampus is located <strong>in</strong> downtown Boston, a cityrenowned for its <strong>biomedical</strong> research.MBS CURRICULUM OVERVIEWThe MBS curriculum is designed to give studentsan <strong>in</strong>tense, immersive experience that closelyfollows the first year of medical school. The coursework, exam<strong>in</strong>ations, and cl<strong>in</strong>ical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g that MBSstudents undergo match those taken by <strong>Tufts</strong> firstyearmedical students. In addition, MBS studentsreceive specialized tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and faculty mentor<strong>in</strong>g thathelps them master fundamental skills and knowledge<strong>in</strong>tr<strong>in</strong>sic to the medical curriculum.The MBS core curriculum consists of 12 requiredcourses, n<strong>in</strong>e of which are identical to or based uponour current School of Medic<strong>in</strong>e courses. Studentstake one full course or two half courses of electivesfrom courses offered by our Graduate BiomedicalSciences and Public Health Progra<strong>ms</strong>. Students alsocomplete a literature- or laboratory-based thesisfollow<strong>in</strong>g the course work.MBS students may also choose to pursue eithera jo<strong>in</strong>t Master of Public Health (MPH) <strong>degree</strong> or aMaster of Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration (MBA) <strong>degree</strong>,both of which can be completed dur<strong>in</strong>g a secondyear. Students <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> these options enroll <strong>in</strong>epidemiology or biostatistics as their spr<strong>in</strong>g electivesdur<strong>in</strong>g the second semester of the first year. Therema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g requirements are completed dur<strong>in</strong>g thesummer, fall, and spr<strong>in</strong>g of the follow<strong>in</strong>g year. Admissions are based on fivepr<strong>in</strong>cipal criteria: student’s entire academic record,successful completion of all pre-medical courses,MCAT or DAT scores (preferred; GREs acceptable),letters of recommendation, and personalstatements.
