DIE DAISIES IN DIE MEDIA....
„n Artikel wat in die Rekord koerant van 12 Junie 2012 verskyn het.
Women take off their clothes for good cause
A group of close friends in Pretoria opened their hearts and removed a bit of
clothing to make a difference in their community. Known as the Caring Daisies,
their fi rst project was a calendar with discreet nude photos of the women. “We
know you might frown but it was for a good cause. If you think about it, what
can possibly cause a few fat, overweight moms, covered with cellulite, to take off
their clothes to make a calendar?” The answer: “An opportunity to make a difference
to the lives of three teenage children,” Anria van Heerden said. According
to Van Heerden, their cause had been a fl at broke teacher in their community
who has three gifted children (triplets). The children had qualifi ed as the top
three students in their school and had been offered the opportunity to travel overseas
for a school project. The problem was that the single mother could not afford
to give her children this exposure. “We decided to help and that was the beginning
of our life of giving. We called the fi rst project Kaalgat Daisies and had a simple
goal, to raise R45 000 for these children,” Van Heerden said. She added that
they exceeded their wildest fantasies and managed to raise R200 000 in a single
evening, while having fun at the same time. The money was used to change a
few lives for the better and the women decided to continue living a life of giving.
“The success with our fi rst project resulted in the decision to continue on a formalised
basis and thus, the birth of Caring Daisies, as a close-knit group of friends. Our
aim, as ordinary mothers, is to make a difference where formal charity organisations
are not able to reach. We embarked on several money raising projects,”
Van Heerden said. Their annual fundraising event will take place on 19 September
at Stone Cradle and they invite the public to participate. They were still going
strong with a passion to help where they can.
