In order to resist the temperature strains that
arise, the hatch must be made from shaperetaining
cast iron. This minimises the risk of
leaks from the hatch, which in turn may result in
getting sooty.
Environmentally-sound heating
When you choose a Swan-marked stove, you get a heat
source with a high degree of efficiency. A ‘high degree of
efficiency’ means that a high proportion of the energy stored
in the fuel is emitted as heat for the home. There are

energy-saving is one of the main goals of Nordic environmental
marking.
Wood is renewable
Wood is a bio-fuel like pellets and wood chips. Unlike
fossil fuels, bio-fuel is renewable and does not contribute
to the greenhouse effect. When there is a fire in a wood
stove, the same amount of carbon dioxide is emitted as
was absorbed by the growing tree. Conversely, fossil fuels
come out of the earth. When they burn, the amount of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases - something
that contributes to the greenhouse effect.
Environmentally-friendly material
SIS Environmental Marking imposes requirements concerning
the material in the stove. Toxic heavy metals may not
be added to the plastic parts or be involved in the surface
treatment of the parts of the fireplace. Nor can unnecessary
flame-retardants and chemicals be included in any
plastic parts. These requirements mean that the materials
can be recycled without spreading toxins.
The environmental requirements of the ‘Swan’ mark for
stoves are strict, and the tests are carried out by an independent
laboratory. The requirements are also updated
every four years in order to keep with trends within technology,
research and science.
