Philips Medical Systems 1 Inleiding tot de HeartStart defibrillator Wat is dit? De HeartStart defibrillator maakt deel uit van de HeartStart HS1 defibrillator- producten van Philips. Het is een kleine, lichte, gemakkelijk te gebruiken automatische externe defibrillator (AED) voor gebruik door personen met minimale training. Het is een EHBO-apparaat met batterijen voor het hart, waarmee u het leven kunt redden van iemand met een hartaanval. Wanneer wordt hij gebruikt? De HeartStart defibrillator wordt gebruikt ter behandeling van plotselinge hartstilstand (sudden cardiac arrest; SCA), een aandoening die zich voordoet als het hart onverwacht stopt met pompen. Plotselinge hartstilstand kan zich bij iedereen voordoen – jong of oud, man of vrouw – waar en wanneer dan ook. Veel slachtoffers vertonen geen waarschuwingsverschijnselen of -symptomen. Plotselinge hartstilstand wordt meestal veroorzaakt door fibrillatie, een chaotisch sidderen van de hartspier waardoor deze geen bloed kan pompen. De enige effectieve behandeling van fibrillatie is defibrillatie. Met behulp van de HeartStart defibrillator geeft u een elektrische schok af voor defibrillatie van het hart van de patiënt. Tenzij er binnen enige minuten effectieve behandeling plaatsvindt, overlijdt het slachtoffer. Met elke minuut na de instorting neemt de kans op succes- volle defibrillatie met ongeveer tien procent af.* Hoe weet ik of ik hem moet gebruiken? De HeartStart defibrillator is bestemd voor gebruik bij personen met plotselinge hartstilstand die: niet reageren wanneer ze heen en weer geschud worden; niet normaal ademen.
