Introduction
I
begin my introduction by
thanking Stewart King, Alice
Gent and Emma Matthews for
all their hard work in coordinating,
editing and producing this April
edition of Beyond Cover. Of course
the 18th edition of our very own
publication will be judged by
the content and my thanks to
all contributors to this excellent
edition. Once again I encourage
individuals, teams, departments
and functions from across the
service to submit articles to the
team to share and celebrate the
valuable work that you do.
April represents the end of a tough
financial year that has seen change and
restructure not only in our Service but
across Cornwall Council. As difficult as it is
to see colleagues and friends leaving us as
part of our restructure, I would like to thank
the following for the valuable contribution
they have made to the service over many
years. Jenny Booth, Charlotte Elliott, Penny
England, Avril Everett, Elaine Honey, Dawn
Martyn, Caroline Morris, Mary Saundry, Jo
Sincock, Sally Thomas and Lesley Penrose.
I am sure you will join me in wishing them
all a safe, enjoyable, happy and successful
future.
Of course April also represents the start
of yet another tough financial year with
further budget reductions as part of
ongoing austerity measures. However,
I strongly believe that change provides
opportunity and by working together
we can maintain, develop and improve
both our support and delivery functions.
Our new Hayle Emergency Services
Community Station, Camborne Pool
Redruth Community Fire Station and our
new Service Headquarters in Tolvaddon
all provide superb evidence of improved
delivery and support opportunities across
so many areas. We have a number of other
reviews to start, some underway and a
range of shared facility projects to explore.
With our peer review against the “Excellent”
level of the FRS equality framework in June
it will be another very busy year.
During my visits and in conversation, I
continue to sense huge pride in our service
and a willingness by most staff to explore
new ways of working. I guarantee that the
management team will work with you,
listen to you and always aim to deliver
solutions that balance staff needs, service
needs and the needs of the communities
that we serve.
