WELCOME MESSAGE
As Chair of OMCOS 17, it is my great pleasure and
honor to welcome you to Fort Collins, the locale where
the long tradition of OMCOS meetings began. In
1981, Louis S. Hegedus and the late John K. Stille
organized the first OMCOS and held it on the campus
of Colorado State University nestled in the beautiful
Rocky Mountains. Hegedus and Stille recognized the
p o t e n t i a l i m p a c t t h e b u rg e o n i n g fi e l d o f
organometallics could have on synthesis and saw the
need to assemble researchers from around the world
to a conference dedicated to the topic. Indeed, future
Nobel laureates Ryoji Noyori and Ei-ichi Negishi spoke
at that first meeting, and attendance far exceeded
Hegedus and Stille’s modest expectations. Even an air
traffic controller strike at the end of the meeting did
not dim the enthusiasm sparked by the first OMCOS
gathering.
Summer weather in the Colorado Front Range is
typically excellent, perfect for enjoying the spectacular
mountains just minutes away from Fort Collins. We
look forward to seeing you in Fort Collins!

In addition to a providing an exceptional conference,
the organizing committee is offering Colorado themed
excusions to participants and accompanying guests.

TOUR A - Fort Collins Brewery Tour
Tour participants will enjoy visiting two of Fort Collins’
many notable breweries; Budweiser and New Belgium.
TOUR B - Hiking in Rocky Mountain Nat.
Park
Participants will enjoy two hours of hiking and enjoy
the magnificent scenery of Rocky Mountain National
Park, located 40 miles southwest of Fort Collins.
TOUR C - White Water Rafting
Take a fun White Water rafting trip on easy rapids on
the Poudre River. The trip is designed with families
and beginners in mind, all set in a beautiful quiet
canyon.

TOUR A - Estes Park
Tour participants will start the day with a tour at
the historic Stanley Hotel, followed by lunch on your
own and time to explore downtown Estes Park.
TOUR B - Denver’s 16th Street Mall
Tour participants will enjoy a day of shopping at
Denver’s 16th Street Mall. The Mall is a tree-lined,
pedestrian promenade of red-and-grey that runs
through the center of downtown and is lined with
outdoor cafes, renovated historic office buildings,
glass-walled skyscrapers, shops, restaurants, and
retail stores
