Substantivos são palavras que designam pessoas e lugares (próprios), coisas e ideias<<strong>br</strong> />
(comuns concretos e abstratos, respectivamente). Existem também os substantivos coletivos, um<<strong>br</strong> />
conjunto de seres de mesmo tipo (exemplos: “matilha”, “povo”, etc.)<<strong>br</strong> />
Podem variar em gênero (masculino ou feminino), em número (singular ou plural) e grau<<strong>br</strong> />
(aumentativo ou diminutivo).<<strong>br</strong> />
EM GREGO<<strong>br</strong> />
A palavra usada para substantivo no grego moderno é ουσιαστικό 2 . Além das flexões em<<strong>br</strong> />
gênero (que também inclui o neutro) e número, os substantivos variam em caso, de acordo com sua<<strong>br</strong> />
função sintática (sujeito, objeto direto, objeto indireto, etc.) na frase. O conjunto de flexões é<<strong>br</strong> />
denominado declinação.<<strong>br</strong> />
Os idiomas russo, alemão, latim e grego apresentam declinação conforme o caso, derivada<<strong>br</strong> />
da língua indo-europeia, que tinha oito casos. No grego são usadas cinco terminações diferentes i :<<strong>br</strong> />

No Glossário da Aula 1, os substantivos recebiam número e letra. Por exemplo, “Subst M3”<<strong>br</strong> />
significa “masculino da 3ª declinação”.<<strong>br</strong> />
Vários nomes próprios de origem estrangeira são indeclináveis!<<strong>br</strong> />
1 O verbo περιπατέω significa literalmente “andar”, “caminhar”; figuradamente: “viver”. A preposição διά pode ser<<strong>br</strong> />
traduzida como “por meio de”, “mediante”.<<strong>br</strong> />
2 A palavra οὐσία ocorre apenas duas vezes no NT, no mesmo contexto (Lc 15.12,13), com o significado de<<strong>br</strong> />

Se você procurar uma palavra em um dicionário, exatamente como é apresentada no texto<<strong>br</strong> />
grego, provavelmente não encontrará. Os substantivos são apresentados no nominativo singular.<<strong>br</strong> />
Como é necessário saber o tema da 3ª declinação e o gênero, alguns léxicos apresentam também o<<strong>br</strong> />
genitivo singular e o artigo.<<strong>br</strong> />
Exemplos:<<strong>br</strong> />
κύριος, –ου, ὁ = senhor (masculino, da 2ª declinação);<<strong>br</strong> />
ἡμέρα, –ας, ἡ = dia (feminino, da 1ª declinação);<<strong>br</strong> />
μήτηρ, μητρός, ἡ = mãe (feminino, da 3ª declinação).<<strong>br</strong> />
VOCATIVO<<strong>br</strong> />
O caso vocativo é raro, associado com pessoas, chamadas na frase. Exemplo: “Maridos,<<strong>br</strong> />
amai vossas esposas como Cristo amou a igreja”.<<strong>br</strong> />
O vocativo no plural e nas palavras femininas da 1ª declinação é idêntico ao nominativo. A<<strong>br</strong> />
terminação do vocativo singular na 2ª declinação é ε no lugar do ο do tema. Exemplo: κύριε.<<strong>br</strong> />
No singular da 3ª declinação o vocativo é geralmente a raiz, com algumas variações. Por<<strong>br</strong> />
isso, apresentaremos os vocativos necessários nas tabelas a seguir.<<strong>br</strong> />
TERCEIRA DECLINAÇÃO<<strong>br</strong> />
Pertencem à terceira declinação os temas terminados em consoantes. Podemos dividi-los<<strong>br</strong> />
