The Brazilian ornamental rock sector is among the five largest producers of ornamental rocks in the world.<br />
Used as a structural element for monuments, to manufacture concrete and in civil construction, the use of<br />
ornamental rocks began when humans used caves for shelter and protection.<br />
Brazil and the state of Espírito Santos are large producers of ornamental rocks. The state is the largest<br />
Brazilian exporter of ornamental rocks and in 2006 was responsible for 65% of its exports. The largest city<br />
in the southern region of Espírito Santo, Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, is nationally known for its production of<br />
ornamental rocks and stands out as a pioneer in the sector.
