Prospective database researches tend to have more quality than
other kind of epidemiological studies, like traditional reviews of literature
or meta-analyses Nowadays, It ISnecessary to apply computer knowledge
Into medical research In order to found sCience and technology Therefore,
the production of an electronic clinical database ISthe best way to collect
clinical Information Digestive system and, more speCifically, esophageal
diseases are the subject of this work, which has three alms 1 - create
database of esophageal disease, 2 - computenze these data, and 3 -
create a web by Involving other medical centers In the process To get
started, a large esophageal literature revIsion was made It was based on
some books of esophageal surgery and on plenty of medical articles
Dunng the electronic process, two protocols were created' master and
speCifiC The master protocol was used to keep all the data about every
esophageal disease The speCifiC protocol was used to store the pieces
of Information that come from the master and create twenty-sIx esophageal
diseases All the Information was then computenzed with the help of the
electroniC research laboratory from Hospital de Clinlcas of Unlversldade
Federal do Parana The clinical program allows that selected users collect
some data after a patient leaves hospital. When the pieces of information
are assembled, the database users Will be able to analyze them by applYing
the EXCEL'" program ThiS clinical database was temporanly Installed at
Unlversldade Estadual de Camplnas (UNICAMP) and at the medical school
of Unlversldade de Sao Paulo (USP) for further tests The conclUSions of
thiS work are 1 - the creation of medical databases was pOSSible, 2 - It
was Viable to computenze the clinical protocol because of the electrOnic
laboratory and speCialized profeSSional aSSistance, 3 - It IS pOSSible to
Involve other medical centers In thiS process of clinical electrOnic research
by applYing the same database
