Living in Brazil, Carlos Klachquin provides engineering support for Dolby audio
technologies, and is also responsible for managing of operations linked to Dolby
cinema production and to its licensing in Latin America. He is currently working on the
implementation and coordination installation of the system Atmos in Latin American

Vice President and General Manager of Paramount Pictures Brazil, he started in cinema
as a programming director at Cinemark when the company was established in the country
in 1997. In The following year, he went to the distributing company United International
Pictures (UIP). His name is linked to the implementation of the multiplexes in Brazil, once
he took part in the opening of several Cinemark’s complexes. He was hired by the IPU as
a Sales Manager and soon after was promoted to Director of the company in the country.
Born in 1959, in São Paulo, he graduated in chemical engineering from Mackenzie,
in 1982. Between 1983 and 1995, he worked at Dow Chemical and Tigre Pipes and
Fittings, where he held many roles, especially in the area of marketing and sales, making
career in this field. Due to his knowledge in the fields of screening and distribution, he
contributed to the competition between the UIP and Paramount Pictures for the leadership
in market share, managing the launch of titles for Paramount, Universal and DreamWorks
Animation. In January 2007, Paramount took over the office of the UIP in Brazil and César
Silva went to his current position.
Vice-Presidente e Diretor Geral da Paramount Pictures Brasil, começou no cinema como
diretor de programação da rede Cinemark, quando a empresa se estabeleceu no país,
em 1997. No ano seguinte, transferiu-se para a distribuidora United International Pictures
(UIP). Seu nome está ligado à implantação dos multiplex no Brasil, pois participou da
inauguração de vários complexos da Cinemark. Foi contratado pela UIP como gerente de
vendas e pouco tempo depois foi promovido a diretor da empresa no país. Nascido em
1959, no interior de São Paulo, formou-se em engenharia química pela Mackenzie em
1982. Entre 1983 e 1995, trabalhou na Dow Química e Tubos e Conexões Tigre, onde
passou por diversas funções, destacando-se na área de marketing e vendas, seguindo
carreira neste ramo. Conhecedor tanto da exibição como da distribuição, contribuiu para
que a UIP e a Paramount Pictures disputassem a liderança do market-share, gerenciando
o lançamento de títulos dos estúdios Paramount, Universal e DreamWorks Animation. Em
janeiro de 2007, a Paramount assumiu o escritório da UIP no Brasil e César Silva passou
à atual função.

Chris Newman began his professional career recording sound for documentaries in the
1960s. He landed his first feature film job in 1968, as a production sound mixer on
Haskell Wexler’s Medium Cool. He has since received Academy Award nominations for
THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971), THE GODFATHER (1972), FAME (1980), A CHORUS
LINE (1985) and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991), and won Oscars® for THE
EXORCIST (1973), AMADEUS (1984)and THE ENGLISH PATIENT (1996). Newman’s
many other feature credits include THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (1974),
SOPHIE’S CHOICE (1982), THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING (1988) and THE
MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (2004). He currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts in
New York.
