Vice Presi<strong>de</strong>nt and General Manager of Paramount Pictures Brazil, he started in cinema<br />

as a programming director at Cinemark when the company was established in the country<br />

in 1997. In The following year, he went to the distributing company United International<br />

Pictures (UIP). His name is linked to the implementation of the multiplexes in Brazil, once<br />

he took part in the opening of several Cinemark’s complexes. He was hired by the IPU as<br />

a Sales Manager and soon after was promoted to Director of the company in the country.<br />

Born in 1959, in São Paulo, he graduated in chemical engineering from Mackenzie,<br />

in 1982. Between 1983 and 1995, he worked at Dow Chemical and Tigre Pipes and<br />

Fittings, where he held many roles, especially in the area of marketing and sales, making<br />

career in this field. Due to his knowledge in the fields of screening and distribution, he<br />

contributed to the competition between the UIP and Paramount Pictures for the lea<strong>de</strong>rship<br />

in market share, managing the launch of titles for Paramount, Universal and DreamWorks<br />

Animation. In January 2007, Paramount took over the office of the UIP in Brazil and César<br />

Silva went to his current position.<br />

Vice-Presi<strong>de</strong>nte e Diretor Geral da Paramount Pictures Brasil, começou no cinema como<br />

diretor <strong>de</strong> programação da re<strong>de</strong> Cinemark, quando a empresa se estabeleceu no país,<br />

em 1997. No ano seguinte, transferiu-se para a distribuidora United International Pictures<br />

(UIP). Seu nome está ligado à implantação dos multiplex no Brasil, pois participou da<br />

inauguração <strong>de</strong> vários complexos da Cinemark. Foi contratado pela UIP como gerente <strong>de</strong><br />

vendas e pouco tempo <strong>de</strong>pois foi promovido a diretor da empresa no país. Nascido em<br />

1959, no interior <strong>de</strong> São Paulo, formou-se em engenharia química pela Mackenzie em<br />

1982. Entre 1983 e 1995, trabalhou na Dow Química e Tubos e Conexões Tigre, on<strong>de</strong><br />

passou por diversas funções, <strong>de</strong>stacando-se na área <strong>de</strong> marketing e vendas, seguindo<br />

carreira neste ramo. Conhecedor tanto da exibição como da distribuição, contribuiu para<br />

que a UIP e a Paramount Pictures disputassem a li<strong>de</strong>rança do market-share, gerenciando<br />

o lançamento <strong>de</strong> títulos dos estúdios Paramount, Universal e DreamWorks Animation. Em<br />

janeiro <strong>de</strong> 2007, a Paramount assumiu o escritório da UIP no Brasil e César Silva passou<br />

à atual função.<br />

Chris Newman began his professional career recording sound for documentaries in the<br />

1960s. He lan<strong>de</strong>d his first feature film job in 1968, as a production sound mixer on<br />

Haskell Wexler’s Medium Cool. He has since received Aca<strong>de</strong>my Award nominations for<br />

THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971), THE GODFATHER (1972), FAME (1980), A CHORUS<br />

LINE (1985) and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991), and won Oscars® for THE<br />

EXORCIST (1973), AMADEUS (1984)and THE ENGLISH PATIENT (1996). Newman’s<br />

many other feature credits inclu<strong>de</strong> THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (1974),<br />

SOPHIE’S CHOICE (1982), THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING (1988) and THE<br />

MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (2004). He currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts in<br />
