Possui basicamente 3 funções:<br />
• Proteger a pastilha <strong>de</strong> silício, ou seja, o processador propriamente dito, também chamado<br />
<strong>de</strong> núcleo (core), da contaminação <strong>de</strong> impurezas, como por exemplo o ar.<br />
• Dissipar calor gerado internamente durante sua operação.<br />
• Proporcionar a conexão física e elétrica com a motherboard.<br />
