Welcome to Brazil
Brazil is a federal republic consisting of 26 presidential federal
states and the Federal District (where the capital, Brasília, is
located). Its population of above 201 million is distributed in
5,570 cities, occupying an area of 8,514,877 km² which
represents 47% of the South American territory. Compared
with other countries in the world, Brazil has the fifth largest
population. In addition, the country concentrates between
15-20% of the entire world’s biodiversity, harboring even
the largest river on the planet.
Brazilian society is famous for being
multicultural, formed by descendants of
Indians, Africans, Europeans, and Asians.
Firstly colonized by Portugal, Brazil stands
as the only Portuguese-speaking country in
the Americas.

Porto Alegre is the biggest urban
agglomeration in the South of Brazil,
with a metropolitan area of 4 million
inhabitants. Guaíba Lake cuts the capital
city of Rio Grande do Sul from north to
south and has a 72-km-long coastline that
was once the port of entrance of Azorean
couples that settled in the region in 1752.
The perfect blend of Brazilian-Portuguese
and Platinian-Spanish cultures, added to a
strong European heritage, gives the city
a unique background within Brazil.
Porto Alegre has a long tradition in hosting
events, such as the World Social Forum in
2002, 2003, 2005, and 2010, and the
2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Conceito
CAPES
This is the maximum concept attributed by the Coordination of
Improvement of Higher Education (CAPES), that evaluates the
proposal of the programs, professors, students, and their theses
and dissertations, intellectual production and social inclusion for
the Graduation programs. The Graduate Program in Management
was appointed by CAPES as one of the three best graduate
programs in Management in the country.

Conceito
MEC
The Preliminary Course Grade (CPC) ranges from 1-5 and, as the
name implies, is an early indicator of the status of undergraduate
programs in the country. In order for the values to consolidate and
effectively represent what is expected of a program in terms of
quality and excellence, a committee of reviewers will make local
visits to confirm or change the grade preliminarily obtained.

unit of UFRGS that has been awarded
maximum grade by CAPES (7) and maximum
grade in undergraduate education (A). The
School figures in 2 nd place among the top 10
in the national education assessment. The

The changes in the economic, social, and political environment of organizations requires
executive professionals that are capable to seek quality and efficiency in providing services
and offering products. In this constantly changing environment, not only the continuous
learning by executives and organizations is essential, but also the development of executive
capabilities for problem-solving and especially, for the creation of unique new products,
is a sine qua non condition. Considering these circumstances, the School of Managment
developed an MBA specifically designed for managers and executives of public and private
organizations. The MBA is intended to develop and broaden the managerial perspective
of executives, seeking to prepare them for the development of abilities with a focus on
continuous learning organizations and their insertion in the global Market. The objectives
and framework of the program have been adapted to the present and future realities
executives are to face.
Master’s degree
The Master’s program aims to develop studies in the field of Management, forming
high-level personnel for the performance of teaching and research activities, as well as
professionals who, given the characteristics of the curriculum, are skilled for the exercise
of executive functions in organizations.

MBA degree
The International Executive MBA in Management focuses on the transformation of individual
learning into organizational learning, making the sharing of knowledge in the company of
origin more effective. It uses methods and technology to obtain objective and up-to-date
information from the environment and the organization, allowing for more effective decision
making. Students participate in exclusive seminars on international business management at
recognized institutions in the field of Administration (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales
- HEC Paris, France and Escuela de Administracion de Empresas - EAE - Barcelona, Spain) and
make technical visits to internationally involved companies in the European community.
PhD degree
The PhD degree in Management seeks to
serve students from different regions in the
country and abroad, with an emphasis on the
Southern Cone, paying special attention to
students who have experience in research
and teaching, so that upon completing the
course, students are able to contribute to the
improvement of scientific and development
