Debt?

Don‛t let it

weigh you down

At one

time or

the other,we have found ourselves 5.

in a difcult situation which requires

money to go through it. When that money

is not available, the next option to

think of is taking a debt or loan. It‛s not

a bad idea. However if that debt is not

managed well, it can weigh you down and

destroy your reputation. Here are some

tips to help you manage your debt well.

1. Have the right mindset:

Before you even walk to the

bank or money lender to work

on getting a loan, make sure

your mind is in the right place.

Avoid making such a decision

while you are emotional. Even if

it‛s a little loan, it will grow and

very soon you will have little

loans everywhere.

2. Get an understanding of

how much debt you owe.

Write down the creditors

and amounts owed to each of

them. Do not worry about the

total. There is power in knowing

where you stand nancially

because only then can you map

your nancial future.

3. To get out of un manageable

debt, you need a plan.

You need a simple, effective

and workable plan tailored to

your individual life circumstances.

A plan should include detailed

strategies for spending,

earning, saving and investing.

Write down in a journal or notebook

everything that you spend

on, how much you have saved

in relation to your earnings

every day. This will help bring

about a sense of accountability.

Remember, it‛s not the amount

that counts. It‛s the plan.

4. Control your urges and

don‛t get into further debt.

Take responsibility for your

actions and decide for yourself

that you will no longer buy on

credit to dig yourself deeper

into debt.

Don‛t burry your

head in the sand.

Communicate

with your creditors

whenever

you are in nancial

hardships.

Keep contact

in writing and

in case of a

telephone conversation,Take

the name of the

person you speak

to and contemporaneous

note

of the conversation.

Read

and respond to

court surmons.

make an effort

to attend the

hearings with as

much information

as possible

about your situation.

6. Get some help.

The most successful

businesses

and individuals

realize the

value of ongoing,

independent

advice. Most

ordinary people

perceive this as

costly, but ask

yourself; when

you are sick,

don‛t you look

for a doctor

When you want

to improve in a

sport, don‛t you

look for a coach

It‛s the same

here, when you

are in debt, you

need a independent

professional

help.

Kabalega;

probably PDF the Compressor greatest Free Version

king in Uganda

Kabalega, - the king of Bunyoro, in 1872 fought and

repulsed sir Samuel Baker,

the then Governor of Equato

rial province which comprised

of South Sudan and parts of

northern Uganda. Sir Samuel

Baker had intentions of colonizing

Bunyoro on behalf of Egypt

Masindi. Omukama Kabalega,

being the man he was, couldn’t

let Sir Samuel Baker’s plans

see light. Watching with concern the above developments,

Kabaka Mutesa 1 the king of Buganda warmly

received H.M Stanley in 1875 and appealed to him to

send missionaries from England. Stanley wrote a letter

which was published in the Daily Telegraph in England

on 15 th November 1875 inviting missionaries to

Buganda. Furthermore, on 14 th January 1878, Kabaka

Mutesa 1 wrote another letter to queen Victoria of

England to establish a relationship between Buganda

and England in order to safe guard Buganda against

any possible Egyptian or Bunyoro attack. Omukama

Kabalega ,king of Bunyoro with support of Belgians

had become a bully in the region. He had overthrown

Omukama Kasagama of Tooro and threatened to

attack other Kingdoms.

Although the base of political and religious strife was

outside his kingdom, Kabalega keenly watched the

developments in Buganda especially those which

affected Bunyoro Kitara interests. In 1890, Buganda

occupation of the British, represented by the Imperial

British East African Company was to uproot Kabalega

from Tooro and to completely remove him from power.

Kabalega’s open resistance against the British started

in 1891. He openly and strongly resisted the new ideas

-

ed with traditional authority. Kabaka Muteesa 1 of

Buganda was succeeded by his son, Kabaka Mwanga

and in 1887, Kabalega and Mwanga combined forces

and fought a guerilla war against the Bristish but were

ultimatel defeated and captured on 9 th April 1899. They

were exiled to the Seychelles Islands. Mwanga was

succeeded by his young son, Daudi Cwa while Kabalega

was too succeeded by a less radicle member of the

royal family.

During the 1840’s and

1850’s , the Arab-Swahili

caravan traders returned

to the coast of East Africa.

They reported about areas

which had abundant slaves

and Ivory and also those

societies which were well

organized with centralized

political system such as

Buganda. In 1862, a group

of European explorers led

by H. Speke and Grant

reached B(U)ganda.

Another group led by Sir

Samuel Baker and his wife

and another led by Henry

M Stanley reached B(U)

ganda In 1864 and 1875

respectively. All these

groups concluded that

Uganda was where the

source of river Nile was

found. The Nile waters

were agriculturally important

for Egypt. A series of

Anglo- Egyptian forts such

Patiko were established in

northern Uganda to protect

the Nile waters.

From November 1884 to

January 1885,European

powers met in an international

conference in

Berlin Germany and the

had occupied Egypt were

which had signed treaties

of “friendship” with African

rulers were allowed to

European powers to claim territories in Africa without

recourse to wars between themselves. These were;

In 1890, Germany entered

the colonial race with vigor.

The famous Jackson and

Carl Peters race for Uganda

in 1890 set in with the

former representing Britain

and the latter representing

Germany. Carl Peters was

Mwanga, the king of Buganda

then, outpacing Jackson

who arrived a few days later.

Uganda, by the virtue of the

“Carl Peters-Mwanga treaty

of protection” became a

German territory. The British

government was thus caught

up in a very awkward situation.

There were two situations

that forced Britain to

negotiate with the Germans

the British public outcry of the

Church Missionaries Work

in Uganda. The second one

and most important consideration

was that, since the

British occupation of Egypt in

1882, Egypt’s geographical

and political interests had

become an important part

of the British colonial policy.

It was feared that Germany

could use its technical knowhow

to divert the Nile waters

and hence strangle Egypt – a

British territory.

Way back in 1815,at the

congress of Vienna, the

European powers which had

defeated Napoleon Bonaparte

1, had shared amongst

themselves territories which

had been under French

control. Britain had opted for

the islands in the

North Sea, in the

Indian oceans. In

the North sea, the

British acquired the

Heligoland islands

just off the Kiel harbor.

By 1890, a canal

had been constructed

along Kiel

harbor, which had

also became an

important German

naval base. The

Heligoland islands

therefore overnight

developed into an

important strategic

point for Germany.

Much as this island

was important for

Britain, it had to exchange

it for Uganda.

That resulted

into signing the Heligoland

Treaty of

the 1890 between

Britain and Germany

for that purpose.

B(U)ganda then

became a British

protectorate. By

that time, Uganda

was represented by

Buganda kingdom.

It was from

Buganda that the

British sphere of

other regions that

constitute Uganda

today as seen

on the world map

were just joined to

Buganda. The map

(in middle)shows how

Ugandan boundaries

have evolved

since 1894.

Judgement

day;

Will Mwanga be acquited

for killing the

Uganda Matyrs?

The period that followed the introduction

of

new

religions in

Uganda was

a time of

adjustment.

It is also

usually

re ferred

to as

the period

of “crisis and revolution”. This was

because the new ideas and values con-

Mutesa 1 of Buganda was concerned

about these developments especially

when the two evangelizing groups he

himself invited; the Church Missionary

Society from England (Wangereza) and

the White Fathers from France(Wafaransa)

took up major roles in religious civil

1889. Kabaka Mwanga succeeded his

father as the king of Buganda in late

1885. The height of this religious strife

new Christian converts and especially

those who were pages at his court as a

future threat to his power. He therefore

resorted to persecuting them and it

climaxed during the period 1885-1887.

Those who were caught were told to either

renounce their religion or be killed.

Some feared death while others braved

death and those who braved death are

sail, we were greeted by tranquility , seeing Entebbe like never before. As minutes

rolled by , at a leisure pace, we were mesmerized by the lakeside, especially

the

continuity of white sand at the beaches around Lido beach, Spenah beach and

Protea Hotel.. Whether you are out on a sightseeing experience or on a romantic

sail, the sunset cruise will be a sure thing to impress!

During the cruise, we passed by the historical site from which Entebbe gets its

name. The place is Entebbe za Mugula, loosely translated as Seats for Mugula.

Mugula was a Buganda chief and he used to sit and conduct his court from here.

In this place, there are rocky features carved like seats that overlook lake Victoria

near where the airport is situated today. This is where he would sit during

judicial proceedings and village meetings. That aside, the cruise also takes you

passed small rock islands, including one where women are not allowed accord-

In about 50 minutes, we had reached the equator islands and we got off our

boat to enjoy the sun as it dipped its way into the lake on the horizon, like a

red-hot big ball falling into the water. It is a moment that every visitor wants to

capture on camera while posing on the equator monument recently erected by

Entebbe Municipal Council. A lot still needs to be done to turn around this place

into a serious tourism site for tourists to stay longer.

,

cormorant and there were monitor lizards and other animals swimming in the

water. On the way back, with the sun having fully set, we experienced Entebbe

lights on this nighttime sail.

Cruising quietly by the bright and beautiful Entebbe skyline, you will take in the

breathtaking views that can only be seen this way from water on a quiet and

peaceful excursion. Once again , the Boat docks at Anderita beachline. These

trips into the lakes and neighboring islands are readily arranged at $15 each

Kampala is a very hastle-free city,dynamic,

engaging and safe as far as Africa’s

capital’s go. Best of all, its safe to walk

around virtualy everywhere in the daytime

and downtown doesn’t shutdown until well

in the evenings. There are several faces of

Kampala; from the impossibly chaotic jam

of central Kampala, with streets thronging

with shoppers and hawkers to something

of a garden city up Nakasero hill. Here you

quickly hit Kampala’s most expensive hotels,

embassies, government buildings as well as

fairly exclusive residential zones, home to

swanky restaurants and bars popular with

experts. Down town Kampala is the centre

of publc transport, two of the most mind

boggling taxi parks and two public bus parks

namely Kisenyi and Namayiba are located

there.

Getting There;

From Entebbe International airport, taxis

charge around 85,000($ 35) for a 40 km

journey which takes approximately 1 hour.

The best way to get around thecity is by

a metres taxi or a motorcycle taxi called

bodaboda.

of the year that I

have worked hard

to achieve a goal.

Iam the drug brand

representative for

Ajanta pharma Ltd.

Given the kind of

profession that

Iam a professional

nurse, it is something

so limiting

to achieving more

than being on

ward in a hospital.

Getting up and

deciding to take

this route of Miss

Tourism was

success on its own

and Iam grateful

it didn’t disapoint.

From the pageant

I now have people

who look up to me

or people who think

I should do things

a certain way. It

would be wrong if

I said I didn’t mind

them but I work on

a daily to acheive a

certain goal not to

“BETTER

TH AN SEX”

By Tony Busulwa

Tooro‛s expedi

Rose wanted to see

a bit of Uganda in

the days left on

her working trip. Aged 30,

complicated, full of life, excit -

able, tall,blonde and beauti -

ful, Rose expects a lot. She is

Canadian and works with the

medical admin in Qatar.

So, we set, drove south -

west to Fortportal town,took a

guided tour of the tooro pal -

ace with its 360-degree pan -

oramic views over the town.

Later in the evening, Rose

surfed her experience of

nature at the Tooro botanical

gardens where she extensive -

ly asked questions on almost

every tree, and herb

that she laid her eyes on. We

spent the night at Golf course

View Guesthouse, situated

across the road from the Golf

course in spacious comfort -

able rooms huge bathrooms

featuring bathtubs with pip -

ing hot water. In the morning,

we had our breakfast and hit

the road to Queen Elizabeth

National Park.

We checked in at Mweya Sa -

fari Lodge, we didn’t have

time to get to our rooms

since we had booked a boat

ride along Kazinga Channel

scheduled to depart at 11:00

am and it was just a few min -

Tel: 0751 125580

herds of hippos,

pelicans and Rose practically

freaked out when she saw the

crocodile which appeared to

be pursuing our boat. It was

a wonderful experience.We

were served with drinks and

fruit for the two hours we

spent on water.

Back to the lodge, we found

our luggage taken to our

rooms, we simply had a

quick lunch and braced our

selves for chimpanzee track -

ing in Chambura gorge,

scheduled at 2:00pm. The

gorge is like a little Eden. We

walked for four hours and we

got to see many primates in -

cluding Chimps frolicking in

the tree tops.

Back to Mweya Safari Lodge,

we were shown our rooms,

large,sophisticated and with

views of water. After fresh -

ening up, Rose joined me at

the terrace where I was sitting

and we both watched the sun

set as we sipped cold beers.

The next morning, we had

to get up a little early for the

game drive. Animals are best

seen in the morning as they

all have to come out and

feed. We saw the elephant,

the lion, the Kob, topis,

waterbuck,amazing bird spe -

cies and were lucky to see the

leopard. We crossed the Equa -

tor and Rose and I took lots of

pictures as we stood in the Cir -

cular monument marked with

words ”EQUATOR”. Our guide

told us about lions that climb

trees; we couldn’t imagine it!

we had to see and prove.

we drove south to Ishasha area.

It is one of the few area in the

world where lions are known to

hang out in trees,often found

Excited she asks “ are you ner -

“No,’’ I lie (she needs to feel

safe)

We returned back to the lodge

in the afternoon, had lunch and

relaxed the afternoon away as

we watched the video and pic -

tures of our trip. ‘’Better than

sex’’ Rose said, as she pre -

pared to go for a swim.

We had fruitfully used three of

her last days in Uganda.

The next morning we headed

back to Kampala,relaxed and

fresh ready for the new tasks.

not quite the same as, but mutually intelligible with Karamojong.

The ethnicity of the Ethur is not entirely certain, but

they are regarded as essentially Nilotic (if mixed) and their

language is regarded as a Luo dialect.

a millitary leader from Buganda who fought alongside

Democratic. Republic of Congo is a vast swathe of land in the centre

of the African continent. Its the same size as western Europe. For

purposes of this magazine, we are at Goma, the capital of Nord-Kivu

(north Kivu) province in Eastern Congo. Although the peace is young

and fragile in this part of the world and travelling there is not easy,

but with a modicum of common sense, you could blaze the trail that

future generation of travellers will follow, just as Tyler Schooley has
