<strong>Oncorecon</strong> 2013Reconstruction of oncological defects is a rapidly developing subspecialty inthe field of plastic surgery. Hence it is necessary for the junior plastic surgeonsand the residents to have adequate exposure in this field. With this in mind,the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive & Microvascular services at TATA<strong>Memorial</strong> Hospital has started a training programme cum workshop –ONCORECON.This is an intensive training programme for 6 days. Form the first 4 days invitedlectures by eminent faculties pertaining to the field of <strong>Oncorecon</strong>structionand presentations / videos of flap harvest will be organized in the morningfollowed by live demonstration of surgeries in the OT complex. During the liveworkshop, each day 2-3 free flaps and 1-2 pedicled flaps will be demonstrateddepending upon the schedule and availability. The cadaver dissection course isthon the 5 day.The aim of the course is to imbibe the principles of oncoreconstruction andalso train the delegates of the commonly done flaps in this field. However, atthe time of cadaver dissection, the participants are free to dissect as per theirinterest, which will be guided by the faculties. The maximum number ofdelegates per course has been restricted to four. This is to ensure individualattention, less congestion and ample view in theatres, more time fordiscussion and adequate hands-on training during the cadaver dissection. Inaddition, the delegates also receive 4 credit hours from Maharashtra MedicalCouncil for attending the workshop cum cadaver dissection course.Since its inception, the Department has successfully organized 10 suchtraining programs and has trained more than 50 delegates.
