Cairns and Far North Environment Centre Inc.PO Box 323N, CAIRNS QLD 4870T: (07) 4032 1746 F: (07) 4053 3779E: coord@cafnec.org.au www.cafnec.org.auheadlands, streams and rivers, wetlands, open spaces and rural land are conserved and enhanced."We believe allowing multiple dwellings on Taylor point would be highly inappropriate, and wouldnot be in the best interests of the community. The best outcome for the environment and thecommunity would be to buy back this site to ensure the environmental values are protected andthat the headland remains accessible to residents and visitors as a nature-based recreation area.An example of an area where a protection of a headland surrounded by development has workedextremely well for the local community and the local economy is the Noosa headland – part of theNoosa National Park. The Noosa headland is now a popular destination for tourists and locals whocome to enjoy the unique natural environment, and to enjoy the stunning views of the scenicheadland. Such protected areas attract visitors and enhance their experience of visiting the region. We urge Council to oppose this development in order to protect the environmental, recreation andscenic values of this important headland, ensuring it can be enjoyed into the future by residents andtourists alike. We also ask that Council consider negotiating a buy back of the site from the owner tocreate a conservation park on Taylor Point, as has successfully occurred in areas around Whitfieldhill.Sincerely,Anna McGuireCoordinator
