CHAPTER ONE
I just woke up in bed when I
heard the phone. I made a detour on
my way to the bathroom and I went
to the office. I was too sleepy and
forgotten who I did not call.
“Hello. Yes?”
“ Alex. We work. Come to
National Bank. Urgent. I'm telling
you there.Come on.”
And closed as quickly as he
spoke. So begins a Wednesday. I
hope to be even today. A normal
day, but I see that the bad guys
never stop. I stayed a little
thinking. I thought. I thought a little
and I was surprised. I wonder what
happened.To the bank. At National
Bank. I have not had breakfast. I
rushed. I was very curious what
happens.
I thought I would find a fast food
there. Twenty minutes. Twenty
minutes it took to get dressed and I
wash. Since I rushed. In twenty
minutes, and minutes add the crazy
looking car keys Land
Rover. Eventually he was left
pocket of his coat. I made sure that
everything is put in place, and we
set off. Time to bank was not
long. When you go to the beacon
and siren on. In twelve minutes we
arrived at Lipscani Street. There
was something. It was not good at
all. There were seven to eight police
squad. A crew gendarmerie and two
ambulances. It was a full
deployment. A few curious people
were blocking the only entrance to
the small and narrow street.
All policemen were deployed at
various points surrounding the bank,
with the intervention of
troops. After I got out of the car, I
heard gunshots. In fact the distance
was too great.
I heard some glass shatter so I
suspect niches that were fired bursts
salutary police.
CHAPTER TWO
I quickly closed the car door. I
squatted, thinking to bring me down
but. I took the gun from the holster
and I went to Andrei.
“Alexandre little late. A little
late.”
I looked at him but after my eyes
have fled the bank doors.
“Put me in the loop, my dear
Andrew.”
At that moment, I heard three shots
into the air.
“Drag desperate. At 6:54 a.m.,
phone. Two masked with balaclavas
on their heads, entered the bank and
forced police to hand over their
weapons. Rest. You can notice. “
“Aham, I said. Well, what? We
stand so idly until he kills the people
there? Do not go?”
“They said that if I see a
policeman kills them all. They do
not play with Alex. They have
kalashnikov. However the building
is surrounded and have no place to
run. It would be even atop escape.“
“Fuck'!” I said I
rebelled. “Country starving and
shooting with Kalashnikov thieves
sites. We're well versed in thefts. I
do what he says.”
They started shooting again. I
fought back. At one point I asked
him again Andrew.
~ 11 ~

Commissioner
“Bank. Has it other than the main
entrances?”
“May. I
think
yes.Behind. Where cars come and
go with money from the mint.”
“Let's go.”
~ 12 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER THREE
I took it among the policemen
mobilized. I chose five and walked
towards the back door of the
bank. A large metal door. Possibly
armor, about one meter ninety. The
difficulty was that to enter, had to
introduce a code of four
digits. Andrew Stancu Good luck,
my best officer.
Lucky for him that his best ideas
come. He told us to move away
from the door with a deep voice. He
pointed to the door lock pistol and
fired a bullet, being metal, not
Commissioner
bulletproof. Almost as if it were
nothing. Against the backdrop of
sunny days were just bullets of the
troops to intervene and cartridges
fired by the robbers.
“Guys. I want to stay here and
wait for me” I told them calmly.
I opened the door and
entered. Keep silence increasingly
louder. Too quiet. There was no
cartridge. No cry for help. Nothing.
The only sound was my shoe
shiny black floor of the bank. You
must arrive at the main entrance.
There.
Counters. The hostages. My hand
was shaking. I am scared. My heart
was pounding. I was sweaty. In my
mind than my breath was heard and
increased heart rate. I do not know
what it was.
~ 14 ~

Commissioner
I was walking through a maze
there.
Nothing.
I do not know what it was.
I do not know what I was doing.
Three hours later ...
“It's stable. Expect to wake
you.”
“Okay”, He answered a voice
next to me. I moved a little
finger. Then slowly lips. The voice
next to me seemed to be Andrew.
“What have I done?” I asked
smiling and scared all at once.
“Nothing serious. You were
unconscious. A little. A little
more. What do you remember?”
~ 15 ~

Commissioner
“Robbery. Shooting.National
Bank.”
“Not all”, He replied Andrew
room looking out the window where
I was.
“Wait a minute. You interrogate
me somehow?”
I said I snapped.
“Not Alexander. Not. I was
scared. I thought ... they put those
hands on you. Those fled. They
managed this. And with bag
full. Two hundred thousand
euros. Enough. After the troops
entered fled. You were lying there.”
“How did I get away? I was
sleepwalking or what the hell?”
I told myself sketching a small
smile.
~ 16 ~

Commissioner
“You inhale chloroform. Enough
to sleep a bit and be
unconsciously. But thank God. If it
was not for him, we are not talking
now.”
~ 17 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER FOUR
I sat and thought. What was?
How was it? Who were they? In
my head there were a thousand
questions. Which more. I do not
know what I have. I do not know
why they did that. Of. But I
Andrew, if God help me, I was not
alive. I heard someone knocking at
the door. It opened slowly. Lavinia
and Valentina entered the room. I
felt that I feel much better.
were they? In my head there were a
do not know what I have. I do not
know why they did that. Of. But I
Andrew, if God help me,
“Hey Alex. How are
you?” Lavinia asked me calm.
“Look good. Did you go to the
bank?”
“No”,he said Valentina. “We
thought to pass on to you first of
all. You need something?”
“I need to catch them on that. I
stood in the ass and I pulled all the
wires that we had on me. I hate
Commissioner
hospitals. I hate doctors. Crooks in
white coats. The only type of doctor
that I like is the
coroner. Everybody's opinion
eventually. “Okay girls. Let's go
back to the bank.”
I follow to find answers to the
questions just now. If you ask me,
the thieves had a fluke. Chances are
one in a million to steal money and
escape. From the bank.From
National Bank. But I will take care
to bring them before a judge.
Back in front of the
bank. Everything was about the
same. In goal I met with Andrei. I
took it and went all four bank near
other cops. It was a large room, very
large. I admired too much for my
back I came across bank governor,
talking boss.
~ 20 ~

Commissioner
“Ilarie, let me introduce you to
the Commissioner that it will handle
this case.” informed slow Ovidiu
Baltag police chief. He is very good
friends with the governor. I
noticed. That just does not deserve
to tell named governor of the
National Bank. I did not mean to be
rude, so I stretched out his right
hand.
“Balan. I'm glad.”
“Aha. I would like to release as
soon as possible instead. You
know. I should reopen - Baltag
walls looked as if searching for
unexpected treasures - the bank. In
two or three days ...”
I abstained not give any two
hands. It was in the robbery. Two
masked individuals entered with
heavy weapons and you're telling
Commissioner
the bank to release two or three
days? Luckily, we're in public.
Ovidiu left. Not the kind of man
to work. I just was looking away
from Ilarie and Andrew. I saw after
a counter.
“Mister Stancu. What did you
find?”
“I found a bullet. Pretty
much. .5,45 millimeters caliber are.”
“5.45 is the Kalashnikov bullet.”
I said upside down. “So we have
confirmation that they were like
that. But we do not know if they
were one or two
weapons.Please. Lavinia handed to
them.”
~ 22 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER FIVE
I went to Miss Istrate standing by
the front door. He approached
slowly, telling me I can not find
fingerprints on the glass door. He
searched and searched until he
found the handle a few
fingerprints. Not many.
This means that last night, at
closing, nurses wiped good. Lavinia
was beginning to collect them and
bring them to the analyzer. Notice
that this will not be an easy
case. We must be careful with every
Commissioner
detail of the evidence. And so. Two
masked men got out of our hands.
How could they? From a cordon
of police forces huge. In the
courtyard of the bank I saw Miss
Boa Vista, a ruddy good at what
DNA means. A sensitive girl. State
and he takes statements of the five
people who stood face to face with
death. All frightened.
All were thinking about what
was. In what will be. I walked
toward them.They were two women
and three men.
“How you feel?” I asked myself
slowly. They looked at each other,
and the lowest in height replied as if
waiting for something to
happen. Something bad. –
“If they come
back? Commissioner Balan.” I
looked down and I told them.
~ 24 ~

Commissioner
“I'll find. Trust me.”
Commissioner
CHAPTER SIX
Valentina approached me and
whispered in my ear.
“Governor wants you in his
office.” I did not know what he
wants from me. And so we are
behind. Many
expectations. Evidence few.
Maybe he wants to keep me
somehow a sermon that of twenty to
thirty minutes about how to release
the bank ... or how to conduct an
investigation. Maybe he wants to
beat me. Maybe he wants to
blackmail me. Maybe.
~ 26 ~

Commissioner
“Be right back”, I said five, and
went back to the bank. I knew that I
would lose through the large
corridors. I asked a guard where the
governor's office. Blah blah blah.
The second to the left, the fourth
on the right. I did not understand. I
asked him to take me to the
destination. Indeed. The Bank is a
beauty. An architectural building in
a very regal. Large corridors. Small
rooms. Two meters tall doors that
open inside.
Superb. At one end of the
corridor, behind the solid oak door,
his office is Hilary charges. I
thanked the guard for that helped
me find the BNR governor's office.
~ 27 ~

Commissioner
I Clopping the door and
entered. Mr. Costea, sitting in chair
with feet on desk, smoking a long
Kent. She largest office
building. Everything was
wooden. Solid thousand euros. A
painting of Grigorescu was hanging
on the left wall of the room. His
office, in the back, and a sofa under
painting. In front of the table there
were two chairs, all leather. A
library cream-colored room on the
right side.
As Mr. Costea, a dwarf. A short
bald man. He had a height of one
meter and about fifty-seven, aged
between fifty-three, fifty-five
years. Black eyes. A blue checkered
shirt Governor outfit complete with
Commissioner
a black pair of trousers
fabric. Jacket was on the couch.
When I entered the office just
finished his cigarette, he started
another.
“Do you smoke? Mr. Balan.” He
asked, laughing ironically. My eyes
stayed on his hands target. He
started and put them in your pocket
and walk around the office.
“Not. Mr. Costea.”
“Listen, Commissioner. We both
started on the wrong foot. He went
to the desk and a closet pulled out a
silver briefcase. I already knew
what it was. Here's a hundred
thousand. The salary of a
commissioner for one year. Be
careful. You close the case.
~ 29 ~

Commissioner
“Under what pretext, Mr.
Costea?”
“You find you.You're a smart
guy Alexandre.”
He's starting to rile. He paced the
room like a damn fool.
“Goodbye, Mr. Governor”, I told
him I smile. “But before I go, I have
to ask you something. Why do you
want to go where? Do you have of
what happened?”
“I'm offended, Commissioner. I
miss may reopen bank.” He went to
the door and went out to my very
indignant question that I addressed
it. At the same time, he closed the
door in the nose. Let's attitude
desirable. There was diplomatic as I
~ 30 ~

Commissioner
expected. I went in the room and I
wanted to go back to the main hall.
There there was only about seven
policemen sign Andrei and the girls
were returned to the lab to analyze
evidence.
“Andrew. Something we're
missing. Something's equation.How
much money was in the house?”
“Well, every house had three
thousand ron, and three hundred
dollars.”
“But they just went with
that. Their bag was much higher. It
seems a little illogical but his
hand. Let's look a little drawers
houses. We went there. All the
houses were open. Andrew fired
~ 31 ~

Commissioner
them. It was weird. All the money
was there. Not missing one.”
“Well, now what?”
“I tell you what now.We will
check the safe at sea. Collect two or
three people and let's go. It all
seems like a game. Sounds like a
puzzle. But one that does not have
the correct parts.”
The safe at sea are on the
ground. It was secured and
locked. It is supervised and guarded
round the clock. But worth a
try. Something all they got. That is
safe and boxes of gold bullion
values. Something had to be
there. An underground corridor
leading to the room. I went with
~ 32 ~

Commissioner
Andrew and three policemen behind
us. It was a dark corridor.
Only five torches lit our path to
safe May. While he was giving the
flashlight around to see where I was
going, I saw blood. Blood spatter
gravity. I alerted the boys. We
started very carefully to see where
these splash stop gravity.
We forwarded. The gun was over
the flashlight. Andrew moved a
little and gave a switch. In turn,
each lit neon. Drops of blood were
becoming more frequent until they
stopped in front of the metal door
that opened two meters with a fourdigit
code. Something scared
me. The door was blood.
~ 33 ~

Commissioner
There were drops of
gravity.There was a pool of blood. I
looked at the locks.
“Try 0000”. I told Andrew. It did
not work.
“Try 1234”. That was the
cipher. Went. At such a code and
the last man on the street can
come. That showed me something
else. I opened the door slowly. In
the middle. In the center. Lay a
corpse. A man.Thirty, thirty-five
years approximately, dressed in a
suit. I put the gun down and I went
to him. When I took the pulse I
noticed that his heart beating.
“Andrew, quickly called an
ambulance. “This man lives” and I
said, looking carefully at the body.
~ 34 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER SEVEN
The key to the case is in the
hands of the victim. Maybe he saw
something. Maybe he heard
something. The ambulance was fast
and within minutes appeared. The
man was bleeding.
With a handkerchief I stopped
the bloodshed. He was shot in the
leg. Those who proposed the
liquidation of the patella believed
that a bullet will kill
him. Enthusiasts. An emergency
crew took the room and put him on
~ 35 ~

Commissioner
a stretcher.The doctor at the
ambulance approached me:
“A centimeter below if you
touched it, it was ugly. Patella is not
affected. A few days in the hospital
and will be like new. We just have
to extract the bullet. Cartridge not
affected nerves. He escaped
miraculously.”
“He is the only unambiguous
evidence we could help in solving
the case. Take care of him.”
The doctor nodded, got in the car
with sirens on and started to
hospital. Again he had a thousand
questions in my head.
“Andrew. Go to the hospital and
take care of him twenty-four hours
out of twenty-four. If anything
happens, call me. He left himself
with a crew to hospital.
~ 36 ~

Commissioner
Meanwhile, the girls and I
examine the vault. Two kilometers
cabinets with contents over six
million. But a box caught my
attention. Box number thirtytwo.
The only broken box.I
approached and I asked Lavinia.
“Does Whose is this tape? Try to
find out please.”
“No need Commissioner. It's
mine.” Governor's cold voice I
heard her behind the iron door. He
submitted his hands behind his
back.
“Governor.” I said I was
surprised.
“It's mine. Box number thirtytwo.
You can begin the
interrogation.” He glared at me. A
sign that his plans went rather
poorly.
~ 37 ~

Commissioner
“Would you please tell us what
was in the box? Mr. Costea.” A
moment of silence for all. One could
read fear on his face.
“I think I need a lawyer
commissioner.” I looked down and I
said, smiling.
“You'll need it. Mr. Costea. Take
him to prison!”
~ 38 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER EIGHT
The officers were arrested to the
National Bank of Romania
governor, Mr. Costea Ilarie. Unless
we find something consistent to
retain, within twenty-four hours will
be allowed back on the streets. If
you ask me, I do not find. I do not
think he is the robbery. But we'll
see.Nothing unpunished. The Bank
was ready. It was processed.
The girls went to the lab and I'll
go to the hospital to see how our
patient feels. When I tried to leave
the bank, the press pounced on
~ 39 ~

Commissioner
me. With all sorts of
questions. True. Strange.
“Commissioner. Who do you
think is the culprit?”
“Commissioners. What evidence
do you have?”
“National Bank of Romania
Governor has to do with what
happened?”
I continued by car with two
policemen me. We started and we
went directly to the hospital. I need
time. To arrange my thoughts. Let's
put everything in order. I say and
repeat. Not an easy case. But I have
to look to puzzle pieces and make a
whole. But this is a long way.
I parked near the emergency
unit. Windy. I left the Rover and I
stopped a moment to admire the
scenery. I went through the door
that opens inwards and I went to the
counter number four. There, a
brunette lady walked computer.
„Excuse me. I would like to
seek... ”
„Hey Alex.” Andrew's voice
stopped me in conversation nurse. I
followed up on the second floor. In
the hall there is room twenty and
four. I opened it and I saw the guy
from the safe.
„It's stable. The doctor extracted
the bullet. Here. I have a small
envelope for evidence.”
„So fast ?!Andrew. That is .9
millimeter bullet, no Kalashnikov.”
„That means they had two
weapons.”
„Take him to ballistic please. But
still. We know who is our friend?”
~ 41 ~

Commissioner
„Yes. I found his identity
card. Teodor Baciu. Thirty-one
years. She is a lawyer. Without a
wife or children. Enescu has a house
on the avenue.”
“Interesting. But what does that
look at the bank?”
Andrew come with me. We have
discussed with Mr. Costea. The
more I prepared some
questions. Very special. I'm getting
ready to go to the station to our
guest. I hope you do not feel bad. It
should be made easy because the
governor will spend plenty of time.
I got into a police car and drove
off to me headquarters. There,
several reporters waiting for me
again declaration. I avoided
again. This case is on all television
stations.
The most publicized topic in the
last two months. Section I opened
the door, and there, the officer on
duty greeted me politely. On the
stairs I met with Lavinia.
“Bring Ilarie interrogation room
number four please.” He removed
me and went to arrest to bring him
into the room. I went first to look at
that and I prepared a glass of water
at room temperature.
Six minutes lasted and I saw two
officers Ilarie, Lavinia with a tall
gentleman and grim. He is not never
seen him. All five have entered the
room. Ilarie with guy high part of
us. Lavinia and the officer next to
me. The surveillance camera was on
and record everything. Tall guy
broke the ice.
“Allow me. George
Preda. Costea the governor Ilarie
lawyer here present.” I looked down
bored.
“Where were you this
morning?” I ask him.
“What evidence do you have to
retain my client, Mr.
Commissioner?”
“I asked first.” They looked at
each other. Both had several
sides. Lord. Ilarie believed and
expected the lawyer to release
him. You were bored and sictir
room. I took a breath and I said:
“Where were you this morning?”
~ 44 ~

Commissioner
“Home.”
“Can anyone confirm that?”
“Not much.” Fear and anxiety
could be read on his face. But hold
that come most interesting
questions.
“Mr Costea.”
“Yes, Commissioner?”
“What were the boxes with
number thirty-two?”
“Ready. Do not say
anything. We're leaving.” said the
lawyer Preda.
“SIT DOWN!” I called them. He
saw that they were girls. Fear. And
they looked at each other and began
Ilarie peeped.
“A ring.”
“What?”
~ 45 ~

Commissioner
“It was a ring.”
“And what was so formidable in
that ring that had stolen?”
“I do not know. He had a
diamond stone. Worth two million
euros. I bought him his former
wife. When we divorced, I got the
ring partition.”
“When was the division?”
“Last week.” I looked squinting
at him and then I said:
“Free!” The officer escorted
them up from me out. I'm tired of
this case. I investigate crimes. Not
looking for jewelry. But it does not
matter now. Once I entered the
dance, playing to the end.
Commissioner
CHAPTER NINE
“112. What's your emergency?”
“HELP! Killing me!”
“Who sir? Where you are? I need
details!”
“Quickly...”
“Sir? Sir? Hello?”
At about twelve I am the phone
rang.
“Commissioner.” It was Axinte
“I got a call from the 112 who said
that he was a man who asked for
help. Come on Victory Street.”
~ 47 ~

Commissioner
I've heard this street recently. I
had a bad feeling. There was no
time for discussion.I quickly
climbed into the car and left. It's the
street where our friend lives in a
safe.
Teodor Baciu. Already day
started badly. If something
happened, this case falls
apart. Beacon is on. Go seventy
kilometers per hour. We arrived
quickly at Victoria.There, two
police crews keep a house with
ground floor, one floor and an attic.
A cream-colored house with red
flowers on the windowsill. Down
the middle is a black oak door
doorknob silver. The house was
surrounded by many small fir tree,
~ 48 ~

Commissioner
bent by the wind that blows strongly
from the west. In the courtyard
surrounded by a black iron fence,
sat a wolfdog.
Do not present a threat. He drew
attention to the blood that was in his
mouth. From behind I heard a car
coming. It was Andrew. The only
noise was the engine. Otherwise no
longer hear anything. It was a quiet
neighborhood, made up of only a
few houses.
He went Rover. I slowly opened
the gate. The dog moaned. Probably
pain. I got my gun and I approached
the black oak door. I sent four
officers to take her back. With his
right hand with the left holding a
gun and opened the door.
~ 49 ~

Commissioner
It was locked. I only had a
solution. Using the right leg, I broke
the lock and the door opened. The
same image I saw it in the
safe. Drops of blood, only that here
ends with a pool. I entered the
hallway leading to the kitchen. He
went into the living room and the
kitchen. The other rooms were on
the second floor. Andrei three
officers went up.
I continued walking slowly and
looking corpse. I think that those
who shot him in the safe they found
out he lives. And when he was
discharged and came home and
finish what they started.
“Top Alex's free!” I heard
Andrew say.
It was a beautiful house, as the
salary of a lawyer. The whole house
~ 50 ~

Commissioner
was searched. I have not found
anything. Not even a corpse. Andrei
took forensic kit and white gloves
and I we went to dog wolf input on
action in his home as a film with
Jean-Claude Van Damme. She was
sedated. Poor. Gems. Quickly
arrived and animal protection, called
the sergeant Axinte. With them
came a vet. He sprained left foot.
“Andrew. Check if the blood is
human teeth, please.” He went to
the kit and pulled out a cotton swab
and a little blood collected. He put
on a small post. If green is
human. If red is animal. He stirred a
little machine.
~ 51 ~

Commissioner
“Yes. It is human. It'll take the
lab, maybe i will find a DNA
profile.”
He raised things and left. The dog
was taken by two ladies from
animal protection.
The case is the increasingly
tangled. Very cool. He disappeared
and the only evidence that could
lead us to the killer. I saw Lavinia.
“Hi Alex.”
“Miss Istrate.Come on let's go to
the house to see drops of blood” I
said calmly. I entered and left the
kitchen. Lavinia began to take
pictures, and I was inspecting the
house.I looked up, down, left, right
... everywhere. Drops of blood or
blood pool, ends on the tiles in front
Commissioner
of the stove. Lavinia continue to
take pictures. I ask a
question.Where did the body?
From the stove I continued
slowly to the refrigerator. In front of
him is a very strange colored
carpet. An abstract work. I made
two steps forward. A creaking was
heard from under the carpet. Lavinia
and I, we moved the duvet
eyes.Approached me. I gave the
carpet aside. Everything seemed
normal. But if you looked closely
you could see something. A square.
A sunroof. It was already
weird.We put both arms. Lavinia
gave me a sign. Three have opened
the hatch.
One.
~ 53 ~

Commissioner
Two.
Three. It looks like we found our
friend. Next to him were stolen from
bank notes ... Franks, euroii, dollars
and several hundred RON
notes. However it was not there, and
ring Costea governor. I cheered.
~ 54 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER TEN
Lavinia took out the phone and
rang Cristina Tudose, the coroner. It
took a while to come. About fifteen
minutes. During this time I was
looking in that hole. Money stolen
were soaked in blood Advocate
Baciu. Once the coroner came and
Valentina. She started by collecting
banknotes.
“ Alexandru Balan
Commissioner.To see.”
~ 55 ~

Commissioner
“Mrs doctor. Glad to see you.” I
told him I smile. We left both to the
body type of safe.
“Let's see” the doctor said
turning body. “He was shot, but you
already knew. No bullet hole
stopped out ... so ... do not tell if the
heart or lung. Next to tell the "story"
full, after autopsy, Commissioner.”
I watched very closely to the
body. He had a white shirt and black
jeans. Pupils are dilated, her wrists
are red, so it was involved in a
conflict.
“Mrs doctor. What is that under
his fingernails”
“I do not know. Wait a minute.”
He put his gloves and took out a
cotton swab on which "walk" under
Commissioner
the victim's fingernails white.
“Seems epithelial tissue. So he
fought anyone yet. I'll go to the lab
to see what I can find.”
I feel a little confused and
dizzy. He pointed to two assistants
come and to climb on a stretcher. It
was to be put into a white van.
“Bye Doctor!” I told
you. Lavinia and Valentina have
approached me.
“And now?” He asked Lavinia.
“Girls. Come on to find
something we could help to catch
the killer. Any. Lavinia. Please go
and seek in the
yard. Valentina. Search the attic.”
I go to the first floor. I went on
the wooden stairs. I went twenty
~ 57 ~

Commissioner
steps. I gave a lobby where there is
a plasma and two armchairs. A
bathroom and a bedroom. I looked
everywhere. Nothing we found we
could help. No girls. It seems that
we're looking for needle in a
haystack. My phone vibrated. I took
it out and answered.
“Hello, yes?”
“Hey, Alex. You would not
believe the Whose blood on the
dog's teeth. Ilarie Costea. We make
a visit? I found his address. 6 th Carol
Davila Street.”
“Andrei'm on my way.”
The girls went to the lab and
officers sealed Baciu's house.
~ 58 ~

Commissioner
I climbed into the car and started
toward the house of the
governor. Again, Andrei was
waiting for me there. It was a small,
modest home, unlike the attorney
Teodor. Strange. The door was glass
and was forced, being ajar. I was
expecting the worst. I went in and I
found the governor of the National
Bank in the hallway, hanging from a
gold floor lamp. She had been
strangled.
“Andrew. Check the perimeter
and I'll call again Cristina.” The
second corpse in the same day. I
announced the lady doctor. I looked
closely at the governor. It was in the
same clothes that we saw
yesterday. The head was bent and
Commissioner
hands at your sides. Andrei
returned. I heard the police sirens
behind. Even Cristina, who moved
quickly.
“Oh god. National Bank
Governor. I can not believe. The
highest television show.” she said,
laughing. End of the rope and sat in
a circle on the carpet.
“Doctor. What do you think?”
“Well see. His hands are
yellow. It has dilated pupils. It was
strangled,
Commissioner. Clear. What is this?”
Cristina kindly have found
something. He took a tweezers kit
and opened his mouth. It seemed
like a ticket.
~ 60 ~

Commissioner
"Commissioner. I know you see it.
The ring is in the left pocket of his
pants. It was not a murder. I killed
himself. God forgive me. I shot
lawyer Baciu Theodore after I
recovered the ring from home his. I
knew that relates to what happened.
You'll get it on the second that gave
the robbery. His name Tudor
Marinescu. On the third do not
know but I trust that you will find "
„What sinister!” Cristina
exclaimed. During this time he
pulled the ring from his pocket. A
beautiful gem. I heard back on
Baltag Ovidiu police chief. He came
to us with his hands in his pocket
and said.
~ 61 ~

Commissioner
„Thanks Alexander. I'll take it
from here.” We see anger and
sadness on his face. I have not never
seen so sorry.
I went back to the lab. There I
met with Valentina. We both went
to the room of DNA. On the table
was a folder. He went to him and
gave it to me. I opened the file and
saw photos National Bank Governor
Ilarie Costea, along with his
information.
“Sent by the doctor epithelial
tissue Tudose, the DNA matches
governor. I sighed softly.”
“Thank you Miss Boa Vista. The
doctor arrived?” I asked curiously.
“Yes. It morgue of Forensic
Medicine.”
“Thanks again.” Almost that this
case is beyond me, but anyway the
~ 62 ~

Commissioner
police chief told me he is somewhat
embarrassed. I think I missed
something. I went to the "office"
Mrs. Tudose, at the National
Institute of Forensic Medicine. I
took the car and left.
When I got there, I saw Cristina
office, completing a certificate.
“Commissioners.Thanks for
coming. Even I've been looking. I
finished the autopsy of Mr. Teodor
Baciu lawyer. Here's the report.”
“Why has died lawyer?”
“The bullet pierced the lung and
heart stopped in the region. This
implies a firing distance of about
approximately twenty to thirty
meters.”
“You bullet?”
“Yes. 9 millimeters.”
~ 63 ~

Commissioner
“Thanks, doc! I want to go to
ballistics. I want to see if it matches
the first bullet fired into his
kneecap. I am very curious.” I got
back in the car and I went to the
General Inspectorate of the
Romanian Police. On the stairs I
met with Lavinia.
“Can you compare this with the
cartridge bullet extracted from his
kneecap? Thank you.”
I was in a hurry. With each
minute passed, the chances to catch
the criminals are lower. I went to
my office and I sat on the chair. I
pressed the button under the table.
Entered officer Service.
“Tea, plese.”
I got up from the chair and I
went to the window. I was thinking
~ 64 ~

Commissioner
what to do? How to do? The officer
entered the room, left me tea and
left. Shortly after he left, came
Lavinia.
“Cartridges match, Alex! I
turned toward her. I cheered. But
still...”
“Lavinia. Something we're
missing. An important piece.” I
sighed again. Miss Istrate stood
little thought and then said:
“If you really, governor shot
lawyer, why did not find the
gun? The letter did not write about
any weapons.”
“Well done Lavinia. Come back
home to see him.”
~ 65 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER ELEVEN
I started with Miss Istrate, sealed
back home to former governor,
Ilarie Costea.
The case is almost over? Not
nearly. Time is pressing us. Thieves
opportunities increasingly larger
escape. When we arrived, a car
parked inside Dacia stood. A black
car with number of Bucharest. I
parked the car across the street from
Dacia.
I stopped the engine and looked
at Lavinia. With a thin voice asked
me:
~ 66 ~

Commissioner
“Who really came. The door was
closed.” she told me calmly and
slowly.
“There is only one way to find
out.”
We got off the Rover and we
pulled out guns. I quickly moved
across the street and into the
yard. The door was slightly open. I
pushed her gently but squeal almost
gave us a goal. I filed slowly.
Miss Istrate was behind
me. With one hand holding a gun
and the other pair of dark glasses. I
submitted to the kitchen.
There. A person dressed in a
dark blue overcoat state, law and
investigate gold floor lamp that
strangle Ilarie Costea.
“Police! Top hands.”
~ 67 ~

Commissioner
Notebook and pen. The man threw
it in his hand on the carpet. He
looked scared.
“Turn around slowly!” He
recognizes his face. Lavinia and I
had guns pointed at him.
“Gentlemen! You do not
understand!”
He said trembling. I know... like...
somewhere. But I can think of
where.
“Who are you? And what are you
doing here? Do not you know you're
not supposed to get into a house
where there was a murder?”
The guy brought his hand into
the left pocket of my coat
inside. Then I noticed we Lavinia. I
pulled the trigger. Automatically
trigger gun, a bullet goes into the
wall. He winced.
~ 68 ~

Commissioner
“You're making a big mistake!” I
told myself, believing that it will
somehow pull a gun. But he took a
pass with one hand and on the other
hand he held high. Lavinia went to
him and took it. His hands were still
high and I was just about to slap a
bullet. Istrate read a little card and
after she told me:
“Liviu Bucur. County Prosecutor
at the Court.”
Then I left the gun down and
relieved him and left hands.
“I deserve an apology,
Commissioner!” He said he hated
looking at me.
“Maybe. I do not know. But
anyway from us.” I said. “Lavinia,
let's look for the gun.” I hate when
someone is snooping around my
investigation. Especially if they
come into the house where the
~ 69 ~

Commissioner
murder
occurred,
uninvited. Immediately, the phone
rang me while I was on my way to
the trash bin.
“Yes?”
“Alex. I looked into CODIS and
bullet belongs to a .9 millimeter
guns.”
“So.”
“Joined Tudor Marinescu. It is,
according to the former governor,
the second man, who robbed the
bank. What are we doing?”
“Wait to come and take a walk.”
Now I was focused on finding
the gun, belonging to Tudor
Marinescu, and apparently stolen by
Hilary charges. Interesting. I went
upstairs. In the bedroom, to be
exact. There seemed most beautiful
~ 70 ~

Commissioner
scenery. In front of the bed is a
brown trunk.
To the left of the bed, a wardrobe
with mirror in the middle, and next
to it a small bedside table, all the
same color, cream. The curtain was
caught in the middle, a red hook,
butterfly. I put on gloves and began
to stir up looking weapon. I started
with bedside.
I seem tiny and easier to
analyze. The drawer was empty and
the cupboard were three books of
South American writer, Paulo
Coelho, arranged one above the
other. The weapon is not here. I
went to the trunk and I opened
it. Pink clothes were scattered
everywhere.
~ 71 ~

Commissioner
Here again the weapon. I
searched the bed.Under the bed. I
have not found. I passed large
wardrobe of three doors. It was
filled with jackets and shoe boxes. I
took each packet I opened shoes and
believing I'll find the gun there. Not
so. Next door, where the mirror
were pants. I got out, along with the
hanger to check them.
But, behind the cupboard in the
middle, it was a little suspect. I
tapped him with his fist. He could
hear something empty. It was a
mistake. It seemed to me. I went and
the third door, where they were ... of
course ... shirts and underwear. And
there I threw glances but no luck. I
~ 72 ~

Commissioner
closed and I walked away. I looked
all over the room.
I have not found
anything. Where could to hide? I
went out into the hallway take my
soul and I went to the next
room. Baia. The turquoise tiled
bathroom. There I would have been
there too. Only in the guise of the
sink.
I opened happen and came across
shampoos and. Superb. I'm going to
look for Lavinia to see if she had
more luck in searches.
When I tried to leave the
bathroom, I jumped into my eye,
laundry basket in the left corner of
the bathroom. A white basket. I
went to him and I looked.I opened
~ 73 ~

Commissioner
it. There were a few green and blue
towels. I came down and put three
eyes. It was one of two
Kalashnikovs, which entered the
bank. By now my day is better.
“It seems you almost solved the
case!” Bucur rear prosecutors said.
“Maybe.”
I took the gun and left the
bathroom. Lavinia just up the stairs
with the gun stolen in an evidence
envelope.
“Where did you get the gun?”
“Garbage bunker in front of the
house.”
“I both caught the jackpot,
Lavinia! Let's go to the lab to
process.” And I said, smiling.
~ 74 ~

Commissioner
CHAPTER TWELVE
If already taking shape. I found
one of two Kalashnikovs. I have to
find criminals and other weapons. I
went back to the police. I'm
curious. Analysis weapon. File it
becomes increasingly more thrilling
as a film with Steven Seagal. Before
arriving at the office, I want to make
a stop at Mrs. Tudose coroner.
I'm interested autopsy
governor. Former governor. I
climbed into the car and
drove. Time is short. I arrived fairly
quickly ten minutes, tops. I joined
~ 75 ~

Commissioner
the National Forensic Institute
where I saw her talking to an officer
Cristina on the steps. It is a warm
day. Twenty degrees.
From time to time the wind
blows, the shade of a tree. I took off
dark glasses and started toward her.
“Doctor.” I say.
“Commissioner.” she said. You
came to Ilarie's autopsy cost? Just
lasts. The result is clear. His body
did not find traces of violence. Of
course. Death
by
hanging. However. I found
something. As we talked,
I came to the room where she
was. A large refrigerated room. In
the midst of it, is a mass of metal. In
front of the table, a table less, all
metal. We went to it.
“I collected a hair. DNA. I run
through AFIS. Belongs to - he went
~ 76 ~

Commissioner
to the desk and took a folder - Tudor
Marinescu.”
“Believe me the doctor that I was
bored every time I heard that name
in this case. I think we need to see
what's wrong with this guy.”
“I think yes.” She said.
“Goodbye, doctor.”
“Goodbye, Commissioner.” I left
the cold room. I went to the office. I
went to my office. It was a lot of
noise. The phones were
ringing. Officers moved through the
hall. Morning I bought a newspaper
that I left on the table, to read when
I have some time off. I sat at the
table and gave the first page.
"New revelations in case of robbery
National Bank of Romania." "The
former governor of National Bank
of Romania, found dead in his
home."
~ 77 ~

Commissioner
I took a breath. I took the phone
off the table. I typed four, seven and
finally one.
“Andrew? Do a search ... Yes ...
Do a search for me ... Yes ... now ...
please ... Tudor Marinescu Search ...
Yeah ... I get ... I get .. . Well ... I
get the report as quickly as you can
... Okay ... Okay ... I'll wait ... Bye.”
I sighed. I rubbed my forehead. And
I started thinking. What? How? And
when? Andrew entered the glass
door marked "Chief Commissioner
Alexandru Balan – “Supplemental
Homicide Division.”
“Do you find?”
“Yes. Tudor Marinescu. But we
have a problem.”
“Which?”
“It’s... dead. Two thousand and
eight.” My feet were soaked.
~ 78 ~

CHAPTER THIRTEEN
There were twenty degrees
outside. Yet slowly the wind. I do
not understand. What he meant
Ilarie joy? What gave me this,
"Tudor Marinescu"?
Who is? What does the bank
robbery? I got in the car. I started to
exit from Bucharest. I expect the
cemetery. Andrei led to sixty
hours. There was too much traffic,
so I came pretty quickly. I stopped
the car in front of the goal black. I
really wanted to walk through a
cemetery and did not know how.
Commissioner
I got out of the car and let me
Wind butterfly brown hair and black
jacket. I saw porter. The glass was
smeared with streaks of blood. I was
alarmed. I called Andrew.
We pulled out guns and began to
look around to see if anyone
notice. Andrew went to the right and
I left. There was no one. I think.
The only sounds were my feet
and the sound of crickets. The
goalkeeper, however, was not
found. I was too far from the car and
I could not ask for reinforcements.
I took it all before. And
before. Nothing on the
horizon. Cross. Many crosses. A
very good time, because right now
the church bells began to ring,
adjacent cemetery. I have found the
body of the goalkeeper. I went from
growing repeat-by. I saw Andrew. I
went to him.
“Something?”
“Nothing.”
“Go to the car. Call the others.” I
have submitted. To a large granite
cross I saw someone. It was black.
“Andrew. Look there.” We
submitted and we went to the
individual.
“Police! Turn around slowly with
your hands up!”
He threw a lamp that was in his
hand.
“Easy!” I said I calmly and
slowly. No other but do not bother
anyone... Turned to us. It was an
elderly lady. Last sixty years. She
was scared, just about to start
crying. Andrew put his gun back in
the holster and went by car.
~ 82 ~

Commissioner
“Excuse us. We... someone. Did
you see anyone?”
“God! God ... you've scared. It
was ... it was a thirty-year ins... like
this. He came with me ... and have a
backpack with him. Oh my God.”
Andrew returned.
“Andrew. We have a thirties ins
that came with the lady.”
“How? But I found nothing.”
“Well yes!”
It was the sun. But something. He
beats his eyes.
“ANDREW! Be careful of
snipers.”
I grabbed her and slept on an old
earth.
It was a mirror. Once we put
down, gunshots began. For three
minutes at a time.We hid behind a
tomb.
Commissioner
I pulled out the gun and fired
several shots. Already old was in
shock. The man stopped. It got
scared. Why? Possible heard sirens
howling police cars. I was in a fog. I
do not know where the shooter.
„Alex. You are fine?”
„Yes. Your lady?” He burst into
tears. They began to appear police. I
raised old and I gave an officer to
lead it home. What thing. Come get
your goodbye to someone you love,
and go with the memory of
assassination attempts.
I put on my feet and I put the gun
in the holster. I forgot year. I was
thinking. Where did the shots come?
Commissioner
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
I spotted Axinte. He came
running toward us.
“Are you OK?”
“It could be better.” I said
shaking my black jacket.
“The bastard!” Everything was
unclear. I did not know what it
is. How is it. From where it is. It
was a fog togs. An ambulance came
to help the old lady scared and
terrified by bullets that
weapon. Andrew came with his
forensic kit, and leaning towards
Cavo's cross before then we
pliers, a few cartridges.
“Kalashnikov?”
“Kalashnikov.” I sighed. I
glanced around. The sun was
beating strongly. Another tomb
caught my eyes. A small wall and a
door in the middle. All the color of
butter.
“Andrew. Look there!” I gave
head to one side, put his hand on my
gun and slowly advanced. I read
what was written on the board.
"Caesar family. Rest in peace." I
looked closer at the door. I touched
her. It opened slowly. I pulled out
the gun. I pulled out the
flashlight. But. Room ... it was ...
empty.
From my office on the second
floor of the General Inspectorate of
Romanian Police could see the great
tree that stood and leaned slowly
waving branches. I got up from the
table and I was walking back and
forth, trying to figure out the whole
game.I have nothing solid in this
case.
What annoys me less. If I start
something, I go to the
end. Suddenly I hear the door
“Well... yesterday...”
“Yes. Yes. I heard what
happened at the cemetery, he said
“I found a bottle.”
“Empty?” He asked ironically.
“Not. The chloroform. I sent her
“Aha.”
Commissioner
“Are you stressed? You seem
upset.”
“Yes.” he said, sighing. “Ilarie
Costea... was... my cousin.”
I was a little stunned. Strange. But
what I would tell me all this? It
crossed my mind to question him so
little. But I refrained.
“Condolences. I'm really sorry. I
will try to solve the case as quickly
as possible.”
Andrew enter the door. Baltag he
yanked the file you have in your left
“Bottle of chloroform found on a
I stayed a little thinking.
“Footprint ... It's clear ... I looked
surrounded by other blocks, as the
He sat in his cabin reading the
Jurnalul National and sipping
coffee with flavor. When he saw the
police car with flashing light on, she
woke up just as a man sees war
coming towards him. I stopped the
car behind the barrier.
“Hello.”
“Let me go. I have work.”
“I can not boss. It must first
complete a form after...” I opened
wide the door. He took a few steps
back. He removed his cap and
wiped forehead full of sweat. The
cabin also was only a small clock
hanging on the left wall, which burn
6:24 p.m. figures. It was still
sunny. The guard was a man of
short stature. He was about one
meter of sixty-two to three
centimeters. I had one meter eightyseven
centimeters. It freaked.
“What road should I fill? She
handed me a form with some details
like name.
“How young is your name?”
I ask him smiling.
“Mihnea.”
“And how old are you?”
“Twenty-four.”
“How long have you been
working here?”
“It's the first day.”
“Until now where you work?”
“I was a guard at the cemetery
alone.”
At that point I looked up and threw
the pen with the writing form. I
approached him and I took it with
“Where the hell were you
“There ... I swear ... the
I gave a slap.
“On why post? Deadly? Why
you lie to me? Where have you
been?”
“There... please...” I've slapped.
“Do not get out of here! Tell
someone where you were.”
“Ready. I tell you.”
A gentleman came to me and
said to give red paint over the
“What's his name?”
because I find clothes, food and
money and that will be my place
Days passed slowly. My patience
too. Baltag pressuring me to solve
the case as soon as possible. It was
smoothly on the forehead. It was
very hot. I think I will go on
Saturday to get a haircut. As I sat
and talked with the "Mihnea", a car
was passing quickly toward the back
of our residences. He stopped by the
guard
and
mine. Blonde. Beautiful. Attractive,
beauty guard Ms. Stefanescu.
“I came to talk to you.” I said
smiling.
“Of course. Get in the car.”
“Talk later.” I tell him guard.
I surrounded the car and I got the
other front seat. I have not gone far,
though I looked a little cream with
red roof buildings, parks playground
behind each block and
parking. None of us spoke not all
the way, even if it was not very
long.
He parked and got out of the
car. She took the keys. I check if I
have the gun at me.
Commissioner
“So you live here?”
“Yes.”
Being in the clouds, I forgot
something.
“Excuse me. I left the car at the
entrance and go than to move lest
something happen. What apartment
stay?”
“Four.”
I quickly ran to get. There, I felt a
deja vu.
There, "Mihnea" lying in a pool
of blood next to his cup of coffee. I
quickly took the phone and I called
Andrew to come urgently. I tried as
best I could to mark the crime until
I kept thinking about what
happened to the poor child. I
climbed the stairs and reached the
as she opened and a happy face
appears before my eyes.
“Come in, please.” I submitted, I
your fingerprint on a bottle of
chloroform.”
“Yes... I had a bottle... I lost
it. That may be.”
“What used chloroform?”
“That will not look!” She stood.
“I look at everything as long as
you suspect a homicide.”
He sat embarrassed.
“I'm here to listen. Tell
“I do not know... I'm scared.”
Commissioner
“Who?”
“He.” He pointed at a picture of
recognized. It was bald dwarf from
me if criminals will ever return.
“What's his name?”
“Stefan Stefanescu.”
“Where is he now?”
“I do not know well. He said he
was going to walk...”
Began to hear the police
sirens. He rose from the chair where
I was sitting and he wanted to go to
the window to see what happened
but I took her hand and pulled her
CHAPTER NIGHTEEN
I broke up with her and went
almost sixteen. Scorching sun still
beating. In front of the goal
and a vehicle parked in forensic
investigating. Four flown over the
blue jacket, white shirt, black tie.
“Interesting story. Come back to
hot. Who was there in my absence
killed that boy?
“Alex. I have not gathered any
evidence. What are we doing?”
“I'll tell you what. We're going to
find Mr. Stefan Stefanescu. Send a
car on blocks ... there. And when
there is one 'one meter fiftysomething
eye on him.”
It's been an hour.
It's been two hours.
Three hours.
I was beginning to lose patience. I
took Rover and I went back to that
complex. Cockpit was completely
window light. I parked in the same
place that morning.
9:00 p.m.
I was sitting in the car beside
sergeant Axinte public order. We
eat a donut with apricot jam. Very
good. They put a little powdered
sugar but about nothing.
“It has not rained much... very
warm... God.” He said, wiping the
sweat from his forehead.
“Yes...” I completed it.
“So. Who are we waiting for?”
“The best friend of mine...”
At about 22 p.m. silhouette is
emerging behind the building. In his
right hand he was holding a
bottle. On the other hand, a bag. A
already asleep.
I did not want to wake him up
that makes ugly when it awakened. I
left. That guy seemed short stature
and bald. Yes. He was. I took the
gun from the holster and... I
uploaded the case.
I slowly opened the car door and
I got out. The man took off... if...
block access card. He wanted to
enter, but a lady aged about seventy
years came out. He held the
door. Everything seemed
normal. He entered and he closed
the door behind him. I expected to
go up slightly. I knew where to
go. Having to enter the bloc as I
expected old lady who had just left
the building. Garbage.
“You go boy?”
Commissioner
“Yes. I'm from the police.” I
answered authoritatively.
“Let me see your badge...
hooligan... I'm not fooled. They
came and said that the couple are
from gas and so robbed her of poor
Margaret... why I placed three
guard.” She knew that the guard is
dead right?
“It's Badge car. I need to get
urgent.”
“Neither of you mentioned it.”
“Madam ... a man needs help.”
“It'll help. Let go or I call the real
police.”
I pulled the pistol from his
belt. Elder eyes widened.
“No time to play. A man may
die.”
“God... yes... Come on... do not
have time.”
I took it before the woman in red
dressing gown and ran down the
stairs. On the second floor I heard a
woman scream. I ran. The four
apartment have slowed. Keep the
gun with one hand. With the other
thought war was. It was much less.
Overturned. From paintings to
chairs. Broken plates. Ripped
clothes. Terrible. An image worthy
of a World War II documentary. We
forwarded. I checked everything.In
the living room, in a corner, is the
beautiful Helen, crying, shackled at
the hands and feet with a strip of
scotch mouth, covering her
lips. When I saw I was light but do
not know what all nodded wanted...
and...
“Balan hands up!”
I closed my eyes.
Commissioner
“It will not go Stefanescu! Not
“Shut the fuck up! You stick
you do not stick them.”
“If you robbery is killing so
many innocent people...”
“I said shut up!”
“Why did you do that?”
“Do I make a small equation. I
did a robbery with x, y and z. Z was
sorry and said that if we do not win
will pour a quarter of all. Liquid. X
and Y two sluggish. When I lost
money because of them I liquidated
these. I realize you're very close
case, and I thought about you a visit
to the cemetery. I could bury you
back then, but I could not lose this
moment.”
Commissioner
I look at it. Dressed with or without
a suit, I do not believe the state of
it. Never. A simple economist, an
official from the Ministry... serial
killer.
“And Costea?”
“Idiot and that... what to
do. Romanians are stupid Balan.”
'he said, smiling.
“Think you're Romanian.”
Ovidiu Baltag's voice said from
behind. Stefanescu Baltag turned
and gave her a punch in the mouth
and a canine salt. - It was stuffy
target.
“It was stuffy Uncle.”
I got my gun and I fixed target.
“Alexander, untie the lady.” I
