EDITORSNOTESEditors NotesDear Readers,During these unprecedented times, I hope that you, yourfamilies and friends are safe and well. We face a verychallenging period both in and outside our workplaces, buthumanity is resilient, as is the oil and gas sector, and togetherwe will overcome these troubled days.It has certainly been an interesting few months as peoplearound the world adjust to working at home, and for many,it has been a great opportunity to spend more time withtheir children and families. We are currently witnessing howworking and business practices will change as a result ofthe COVID-19 pandemic and some changes will be morepositive than others. But the one thing for certain is the needfor individuals and companies to adapt and evolve to thechallenges we are facing. Within the oil patch, I believe thenext few years will be a battle of strongest, with technologydevelopment and increased efficiency the key to survival, withdigitalisation being the key tool to unlock this potential.On a personal note, I have been very impressed with thesystems and practices that have been put into place withinthe oil sector during this pandemic. Operators, drillingcontractors and services companies have continued theirgreat work during some extremely difficult times, with manyshifts and working patterns extended. But the resilience andstrength of those working in the field never ceases to amazeme and my congratulations and respect must be paid to theentire oil sector, especially to those working long hours andextended rotations, often in hazardous conditions.simply amazing, risking everything to help and assist thosewho they have never met before.Coming back to this issue of ROGTEC we start with a greatarticle from Professor Valery Kulchitskiy, discussing thetransformation to digital supervision. Gazprom Neft discussestheir own efforts to create a cost effective Smart Well program,plus they also discuss how they are increasing productionfrom fracturing low permeability reservoirs.
