History of the association
On November 14
22
th , 1975 the inaugured
meeting took place in Karlsruhe. There
were 15 persons present, of whom 12
became the founding fathers.
On January 22nd 1976 the ´deutsche Briard-Club
e. V.´ was registered in the offi -
cial register of societies and associations
in Karlsruhe.
On the fi rst annual general meeting
on 1976-11-13 the association was
renamed to ´Club für französische Hirtenhunde
(CfH)´ (associations of French
sheepdogs) to admit and represent other
French sheepdogs beside the Briard
(Berger de Beauce, Berger de Picardie,
Berger de Pyrenees). At the same time
an application was submi ed for the
admission in the VdH.
At present the association has about
1400 members that are divided into fi ve
geographical sections. Working groups
for Picard and Beauceron are selectable
in addition to the membership in your
specifi c geographical section.
Coctact partners are available in each
geographical section and every working
group. Working days and walks are organized
all year round. Additionally
each geographical section organizes an
anual breeding show or the CfH Club
Show. These shows are parties, annual
meetings with friends and the whole family
– and last not least there are lots of
dogs to be seen and juged.
The Beaucerons
The working groups organize every
year a so called ´special breeding show´
for their breed. This year the Beauceron
show took place in June at the training
court for dogs in Pfungstadt. Pfungstadt
is a li le town near Frankfurt. There
have been about 50 Beaucerons to be
judged. Some of them came from France,
Belgium or the Netherlands. The
supporting acts off ered walks, games
and a behaviour test.
The behaviour test was developed
in the CfH and is administered by special
trained persons. Any Briard and
Beauceron trying to become a breeding
animal, needs the behaviour test passed.
Currently we have 19 breeders and
have had 6 li ers with 43 puppies (up
to now) in 2005. 23 of the puppies are
bitches, 19 of these are coloured ´noir
et feu´, 4 are coloured ´harlequin´. 20
puppies are male dogs, 16 coloured
´noir et feu´ and 4 ´harlequin´. We are
still expecting at least two further li ers,
again with puppies in ´noir et feu´ and
´harlequin´.
Beaucerons are unknown in Germany
and o en get muddled with Ro weilers
and Dobermanns or are recognized
as mix between those two breeds. However,
experts of Beaucerons like them
and almost all Beauceron owners are
working with their dogs. You will fi nd
Obedience specialists as well as trailing
specialists in our Beauceron population.
Also there are Beaucerons working as
police dogs and some of them do rescue
work.
