Engelska. Theme course
“The Art of Crime”: 7, 5 poäng.
The aim of the course is to examine the complicated
relation between art and crime. There will
be a historical dimension mirrored in the narratives
selected, but there will also be a part of the
course that focuses on crime in fiction as a philos
ophical topic and a mass culture phenomenon.
We will read classics as well as less renowned
detective and crime fiction. Together we will
explore different aspects of the phenomenon and
hopefully our joint efforts will enable us to
discern patterns that lead us in various exciting
directions. Your own creativity as readers and
your own ideas about art and crime will constitute
a substantial part of the course’s core. Some
authors we will cover are: Shakespeare, Edgar
Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha
Christie, Raymond Chandler, Patricia Cornwell,
Paul Auster, John Banville etc.
The course is open to those who have studied
20 points (1 betyg) in English or who have the
equivalent knowledge.
