Ocìo Pinot Noir är sprunget ur ett projekt som började för mer än 15 år sedan då
vinproducenten Cono Sur bestämde sig för att göra det bästa Pinot Noir vinet
som Chile kan uppbringa tillsammans med vinkonsulterande Martin Prieur från
Domaine Jaques Prieur i Bourgogne. Efter många års utvärdering och noggrant
planerande lanserades Chiles första ultra premium vin - Ocìo.
År 1996 bestämde Cono Sur att ta fram några högklassiga, exklusiva viner. Av
strategiska skäl valde man att göra detta första supervin av druvan Pinot Noir. Man
valde ut 20 stycken 225-litersfat, som innehöll de alldra bästa Pinot Noir-vinerna
av den årgången. Man beslöt, att kalla serien 20 Barrels (20 ekfat), även om man
numera gör något mer än 20 fat (= ca 3 300 buteljer).
Druvorna hämtas i Casablanca Valley, från El Triángulo Estate som består av 7 ha
med Casablancas äldsta vinstockar, och vars läge och jordmån är perfekt för odling
av pinot noir druvan. Skörden sker för hand och druvorna tas i små plastbackar till
Cono Surs vineri i Chimbarongo (Colchagua Valley) där de även avstjälkas för hand
på ett så kallat ”selection table”.
Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing
premium, expressive wines conveying the spirit of the New World. Their slogan;
“no family trees, no dusty bottles, just quality wine!” gives a good picture of the
company’s modern and innovative way of thinking.
The winery was born around the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in Chile. They were
the first in Chile to produce Premium Pinot Noir, and also the first ones to export it.
Producing this variety has been Cono Sur’s most exciting challenge and the “Pinot
Noir project” started in 1999, with the aim of producing the best Pinot Noir in Chile:
unique, expressive and proud of its New World roots.
In the earlier years of production. Cono Sur decided to tackle the challenge of
making their first ultra premium wine; the chosen variety was Pinot Noir and for its
inaugural production they set apart 20 barrels of the best grapes.
The Ocio Later, the grapes are foot-trodden and colour extraction is enhanced by
means of manual cap immersion. After fermentation, the wine is placed in new
