Past of the meander motif, which name is Maiandors and has this name from the change of direction
of the Great Menderes river making sharp turns,goes back to the Neolithic period. However, this motif,
whose original identity was found in Greek art, was used extensively throughout the Iron period.. This motif
was completed during the period of Geometric Style of Greek art.

Adını Maiandros (Büyük Menderes) lrmağı’nın keskin dönüşler yaparak yön değiştirişinden alan
meander motifinin geçmişi neolitik çağlara kadar gerilere gitmektedir. Ancak asıl kimliğini Yunan sanatında
bulmuş olan bu motif, özellikle Demir Çağı boyunca yoğun olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu motif gelişimini
Yunan sanatının Geometrik Stil evresinde tamamlamıştır.
Su, yeniden doğuşun, bedensel ve ruhsal yenilenmenin, yaşamın sürekliliğinin, bereket, soyluluk,
bilgelik, saflık ve erdemin sembolüdür. İnsan hayatının en önemli unsuru rolünü üstlenen su haliyle
sanatta da yerini bir şekilde almıştır.
