Efficient forest management and planning requires sustainable forest management
inventory designed to record and monitor forests as well as administer the
legitimacy of any kind of construction and activity that take place in forest districts.
Furthermore, forest management can also be achieved through other tools such as
forest maps and forest registration. In any case, authorities will be able to
administrate any kind of forest information as long as they succeed in storing
mapping and legal data in digital form.
The present diploma thesis (1 st volume) with the title «Analysis and Modeling of an
Application of forest registration and forest management» and the corresponding
diploma thesis (2 nd volume) of the postgraduate progamme «Geoinformatics» of
Typaldou Elina with the title «A pilot implementation of an application of forest
registration and forest management» should be read together because both of them
represent the analysis and the area of expertise of the same subject, the Model of an
Application of forest registration and forest management.
The purpose of this diploma thesis is on the one hand to represent and examine how
Greek forest law deals with forest land cover. On the other hand the purpose is to
create a database system in PostgreSQL. This database system will be able to record
spatial data such as forest districts (parcels) and any other activity or construction
allowed, attribute (or descriptive) data and forest legislation data. In addition, an
application is developed in Visual Basic based on Arc Objects. In this system, the
functionality of Arc objects enables the stored spatial and attribute data integrate
for display, spatial analysis and query. The required result will be an application that
is connected with the database system and allow users display and manage the
stored data. This application will be developed in the second volume of diploma
thesis of the aforementioned postgraduate student, Typaldou Elina.
In conclusion, this diploma thesis suggest users an application system for forest
management in order to establish an effective protection policy tool against
illegitimate behavior. This system tool indicates that forest supervision and
protection become more effective.
