CALL FOR PAPERS
AntropoWeb of the Department of Anthropology, the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts at the
University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is holding its eighth international student conference in 2012.
This time, the conference is focused on “Young Anthropology”.
The question we are posing is whether young, contemporary anthropologists and “their”
anthropology differ from their predecessors Do young researchers apply their latest knowledge
to their own research or do they defend the opinions and attitudes of their predecessors who
had shaped their education The theme of the conference was chosen in order to give the
participants the opportunity to evaluate the development of their fields up to date, their present
and future states, as well as to present their current projects. We would like to focus not only
on contemporary thematic and methodological trends used by young researchers, but also on
the criticism of these trends, the cumbersomeness of the development of anthropology, or other
difficulties related to research. At the same time we would like to discuss and evaluate new
research funding opportunities, international collaboration, new publishing opportunities or the
ways in which students with a degree in anthropology or related fields monetize their education.
Students can also share their own experiences of conducting research or studying in foreign
countries and reflect on the differences in teaching and research between home and abroad.
Colleagues from the fields of archeology, biological anthropology, visual anthropology, political
anthropology, linguistic anthropology, philosophical anthropology, folklore, human ethology,
ethnology, ethnography, sociology, history, anthropology of religion, urban anthropology and many
other disciplines are obviously welcome in the AntropoWeb conference on Young Anthropology.
