‘Pot Maya’, the three day Patachitra festival at Naya- village of Pingla Block, PaschimMedinipore, was organized from 25 th to 27 thNovember, 2011. In its second consecutive year, theevent attracted same, if not more enthusiasm andgaiety among the participants. Patuas of Naya playedthe pivotal role in organizing this year’s carnival withsome support from banglanatak dotcom. Facilitatinginter-cultural exchange, nine Madhubani paintersfrom Madhubani district of Bihar participated in thevillage fest which saw a footfall of 17,500 visitors.The three day fiesta was inaugurated by Consul General of US Consulate, ClintonBrown. Mr Brown, set the ball rolling by hisintroductory speech which voiced his appreciation ofthe initiative. His speech was followed by ‘PaterGaan’ sung by the spirited Patuas of Naya. Next werethe speeches made bysome luminouspersonnel likecelebratedpercussionist Pt.Tanmoy Bose, filmmaker Supriyo Sen, andChaturanaraynji - Guru of Madhubani.The first day also witnessed visitors from Kolkata aswell as from neighboring villages who took activeparticipation in the natural colour making workshopswith Swarna and Rupsona Chitrakar. Pingla Patuas,Moyna and Imran did workshop with ten ChandipurPatuas and thiswas a majorattraction of thisyear’s event. The rustic charm of the event wasaccentuated with mellifluous Baul-Fakiri music bythe celebrated artists like Shyam Khyapa, Sasthi DasBaul, Sridam, Subhadra Sharma and Sanatan Das.They were at times joined by Tanmoy Bose andSourav Mondal which took the performances tonewer heights of ecstasy. The evening reached to the level of lyrical rhapsody with theNadir gaan rendered soulfully by Saurav Mondal.
