FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT
April 2016
MESSAGES OF WELCOME
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF THE
ORGANISING COMMITTEE
Dr Rob
Fraser
Prof Gert
Vlok
Cape Town is usually idyllic at this time of the year and
there should be plenty of opportunity to rekindle friendships
and make new ones in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere
and just enjoy our hospitality.
On behalf of the South African Orthopaedic Association and
its organising committee, we have great pleasure in welcoming
you to Cape Town to participate in the 13th Combined
Orthopaedic Meeting. At this meeting we will have active
contributions from all our Sister Associations for which we
thank you.
The scientific committee has put together a very stimulating
programme, with active input from the various subgroups,
which is both interesting and varied. It will consist of symposia,
debates, instructional courses, Plenary and Keynote lectures,
free papers as well as posters. The challenge may well lie in
planning which sessions to attend.
We hope you will take part in all the lively social events and
in the partner’s programme or take this opportunity to explore
Cape Town and the Western Cape on your own.
We are grateful to our Trade Partners who have contributed
by participating in this meeting and for their ongoing
support. We encourage you to visit the exhibition halls to
show your interest and appreciation.
A congress of this magnitude would be difficult to plan
without the expertise and skill of the congress organising
company, Ice Solution, to whom we are indebted.
We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful city.
Kind Regards
Robert Fraser - President SAOA &
Gert Vlok - Chairman Organising Committee
TRANSPORT:
http://www.comoc2016.org/transfers-and-transport
MEDICAL INFORMATION:
There will be a Medic onsite at the CTICC during congress hours.
The COMOC medic will be stationed in the registration area, please come to the registration area if there is an emergency.
SAFETY TIPS
1. Be street smart like the locals; don’t walk around flaunting paraphernalia like cameras, smartphones or jewellery.
2. Always ask for local advice, especially when going out at night. Your hotel is a good place to start.
3. Book a tour guide, they have local knowledge and will really look after you. African Eagle Tours are on site in the
registration area.
4. For a mountain or beach walks or anywhere off the beaten track, there is always a guide for your needs.
5. Don’t catch lifts in the minibus taxis - rather use a metered taxi, Mycity busses or UBER are your best & safest options
6. Anyone visiting the townships should make use of guided tours and should do it during daylight hours. African Eagle Tours
are on site in the registration area and can book this tour option for you.
7. Don’t walk alone to your hotel at night - rather take a metered taxi or UBER.
8. Keep your windows up and your doors locked when driving at night and if lost, drive to the nearest petrol station - most
petrol attendants in RSA are very good at giving directions.
There is always a small criminal element in every large city and Cape Town is no exception.
All delegates are subject to a variety of laws, tariffs, ticket
terms and conditions which limit or deny their right to recover
for personal injuries and property damage. Provisions of this
kind are found in the hotel laws of every country, and in most
airline and cruise line tickets, and are applicable to other travel
services.
