Message from the Head-Rubber Processing Machinery
D
ear Colleagues,
It is over two quarters that order inflow has slowed down to a
trickle raising concerns of low business volume and activity
level in the Business Unit leading to low profitability, probably inability to
cover costs and expenses.
Amidst this gloomy scenario, there are some bright spots that are like
cool Oasis in a warm desert.
· We scored 818 in the assessment for Frost & Sullivan India Manufacturing Excellence Award
and are just two marks short of achieving Gold. This shows a steady improvement in our
scores over the last few years and gives us hopes of better performance in the next assessment.
· After our success in developing a good HTCP for motorcycle manufacture for MRF and getting
repeat orders including latest 56 No. 36” HTCP, we have got order for two 72” HTCP
for Continental Tires for their plant at Otrokovice in Chezh Republic for TBR tyres. We are
on course to win an order for a 52” HTCP for the PCR segment from MRF. We have already
supplied 52” HTCP to Sumitomo, South Africa. We already have order for 67” HTCP
from MRF, again for the TBR tyres. Thus we are strengthening our supply record for HTCPs
which is the way future demand growth is and paves way for a good future for the Business
Unit.
· We have received an order for conveyors from Michelin. This marks enlargement of our relationship
with Michelin beyond contract manufacturing of TBMs. There are also new enquiries
for TCPs from Michelin. We are also expecting orders for TBM for Truck tires from Michelin.
This augurs well for a long and strong relationship with one amongst the largest global
tyre manufacturers.
Our output for the first quarter in the current financial year is quite poor. Despite healthy flow of enquiries
and a good list of order prospects, the order inflow continues to be poor. On the top of it
events like Brexit in the world economy and consequent melt down of markets is shaking the business
confidence globally delaying investment decisions. Chinese dumping of tyres continues to eat
into market share of tyre manufacturers eroding their capacity utilisation and consequent demand for
machinery. The efforts at order acquisition have been intensified. Once the orders flow in, we will
need to be ready to execute orders at short notice at a strike rate of over Rs. 60 Cr. invoicing per
month in the second half of the year. Till then we will need to continue with the austerity measures
and tight control on expenses.
All the best for improved order flow and meeting the original targets that we set for ourselves.
