I have never been a big fan of having my picture
taken and I avoid it whenever I can, so I knew
that when we chose a photographer I would
want someone who would make us both feel
comfortable and capture every important
moment in a special way. After various emails
to photographers I received a response from
Julie Fortune; we arranged a telephone call for

much fun
early one Saturday morning (to suit with the
7 hours’ time difference between the UK and
Canada) Julie’s personality really came through
during our conversation and she made it fun; we
knew that this was a person that would make
our guests feel relaxed and help capture the
images exactly as we wanted. I was so happy
with all the suppliers that we chose; they all
certainly contributed to making it a stress free
and enjoyable day. I found that you have to trust
your suppliers and just not worry about it.
The only theme that we wanted was something
simple and elegant that would be in keeping
with the venue. Shireburn was already
beautiful, so we didn’t need to do too much.
We kept to pastel colours with the flowers and
décor arrangements to compliment my lace
wedding dress and Alex’s Italian blue suit.
On the morning of the wedding I had breakfast
with all my favourite people, my closest family
and friends. While I was attempting to eat
breakfast I received a special delivery. It was
a card and several gifts that were beautifully
wrapped. I was instructed to read the card first.
The card contained a heartfelt message from
Alex explaining the reasons why he wanted to
spend the rest of his life with me, along with
instructions of the sequence in which the gifts
were to be opened. Alex had spent so much time
preparing a photograph book of all our special
memories together over the past 10 years. There
was not a dry eye around the table. This had to
be the perfect way to start the wedding day.
It is hard to choose a favourite memory as
the entire week of the wedding was so much
fun and really enjoyable. As we live away from
friends and family it was an opportunity to
spend quality time with our loved ones. The
entire wedding day from the moment I woke
up until the moment I went to sleep was so
memorable, better than I had ever imagined.
However, the wedding ceremony itself had to
be a very special moment. I loved walking down
the aisle holding on to my dad’s arm and seeing
Alex waiting for me; I was so nervous, but as
soon as I saw Alex I forgot about everyone
else in the room. The rest of the ceremony
was so symbolic and was an extremely
precious moment between Alex and me.
Organising a wedding is not an easy
experience, but I have to say that it was worth
every moment of stress, tears and sleepless
nights. You receive so much good advice from
other brides about what to do and what not
to do. However, the one thing I did that made
my day even more enjoyable was that in the
morning (before all the chaos started!),
I took some quiet time for myself to reflect
on everything. I think this helped me
prepare for the day ahead and helped me
to stay calm.
