Almost all medium and large sized bus<strong>in</strong>esses have a website<br />

While we f<strong>in</strong>d evidence that small bus<strong>in</strong>esses are less <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>ternet</strong> <strong>economy</strong>,<br />

we f<strong>in</strong>d that 36% of all bus<strong>in</strong>ess do have a website. <strong>The</strong>se bus<strong>in</strong>esses vary from only<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g present to fully be<strong>in</strong>g dependent on <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>ternet</strong> for generat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>come. Almost all<br />

large bus<strong>in</strong>esses of more than 250 employees have a website. Also, more than 80% of <strong>the</strong><br />

medium sized bus<strong>in</strong>esses (50–249 employees) are present on <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>ternet</strong>. Sectors such as<br />

‘Information and communication’, ‘Public adm<strong>in</strong>istration’, ‘Education’, ‘Wholesale and retail<br />

trade’ and ‘Manufactur<strong>in</strong>g’ are particularly prom<strong>in</strong>ent <strong>in</strong> terms of <strong>the</strong> share of bus<strong>in</strong>esses<br />

which have a website.<br />

Relative low turnover and number employees <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>esses without a website<br />

This study shows that <strong>the</strong> majority (64%) of bus<strong>in</strong>esses do not have a website. However,<br />

<strong>in</strong> terms of turnover and employment this category is a relatively small part of <strong>the</strong> Dutch<br />
