Athlete of the Week
10 Questions
with Kristie Kalis
The New Trier senior is one of only four
seniors on the team.
Do you have any superstitions?
Before a game I always have to eat a
Nature Valley bar, the original, and drink
water.
Is there any music that gets you
pumped up before a game?
I have a playlist on Spotify that I listen
to. It’s got pretty much a little bit of
everything, but a lot of rap. Pretty much
anything that gets me hyped.
Songs or artists you’re
embarrassed to confess to liking?
I like to listen to a lot of throwbacks,
stuff like Hannah Montana throwbacks.
What’s the best part about being a
New Trier athlete?
The best thing is everyone knows
you’re part of a team here. It just makes
you feel good when you’re walking
down the hallway and see your teammates
and say “Hi” or that people know
that you’re an athlete or on a certain
team. They respect you for that.
If you could play any other sport
what would it be?
Gymnastics. It looks so cool and I wish
I could flip.
What’s the best coaching advice
you’ve ever gotten?
Play like it’s your last game. Pretty
much every coach, even going back to
my parents when I was starting, has said
that at one point.
If you could be any superhero,
what would it be?
VARSITY VIEWS
Superman because then I could fly,
but if I had a superpower, it’d be mind
reading.
If you could live anywhere, where
would it be?
Lake Tahoe. You get water, you get
mountains, you get everything there.
Where do you see yourself in 10
years?
Hopefully just living life and doing my
dream job. I’d like to do sports management
or go into physical therapy or
athletic training.
Do you have any people you look
up to in basketball?
My older sister and my dad. My older
sister played on varsity the last two years
so I try to follow in her footsteps and
then my dad has played basketball his
whole life and that’s what I want to do.
