<strong>Unit</strong> 1 <strong>Discussion</strong> 1 <strong>Theory</strong> <strong>into</strong> <strong>practice</strong> <strong>discussion</strong> [[<strong>NEW</strong>]] Draw from the instructional materials and your personal as<br />
well as professional experiences to answer the <strong>Discussion</strong> Questions below. In order to participate in a dialogue<br />
designed to explore the issues, be sure you respond to at least two of your colleague's responses for each question.<br />
Also, make sure you respond to any questions others may ask of you during this unit. Remember that this is a<br />
<strong>discussion</strong>, so keep your responses succinct and to the point. You have read about the evolution of Human Resource<br />
Development and the relationship between HRD/Training and HRM; those influences that affect employee behavior and<br />
learning and its effect on HRD design systems in organizations. Assume that an organization has the following three<br />
strategic objectives: Reduce employee turnover by 10% by 2011. Increase product output by 20% by 2011. Empower<br />
line employees to make decisions by the end of 2010. Based on the andragogical research, two questions arise:<br />
Assignment Checklist: 1. Compare traditional versus strategic HRD. 2. Explain how HRD can align employee<br />
development with the given strategic objectives. 3. Evaluate three internal and three external factors that influence<br />
employee behavior regarding employee development. Topic 1: HRD Management Management wants employee<br />
development in the company to be more strategic. What does this statement mean? What can HRD management do to<br />
ensure employee development in alignment with the strategic objectives as stated above? Topic 2: HRD Factors From<br />
your perspective and the readings, what are at least three internal and external factors that will influence employee<br />
development by 2011? (Chapter 2) Given that this DBQ is really two questions (Topic One and Topic Two) indicate in<br />
your Subject Line which Q you are addressing. In the Subject Line enter either "Topic One" or "Topic Two" as<br />
appropriate. You should have two separate DB answer posts, one for Topic One and one for Topic Two.<br />
NOTE: USE THE RUBRICS IN DOC SHARING FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENTS THIS TERM. The course has a lack of<br />
good alignment between course assignment descriptions and the course rubrics. At times, the course assignment does<br />
not pair well with the assigned activity/article/reading. The simplest solution to this alignment problem has been for me to<br />
merge the course assignment descriptions, course rubrics and assigned activities to ONE rubric. Use this rubric to<br />
shape/inform your assignments. I will follow it closely in my assessment of your unit subject mastery.<br />
