The year 2016: an overview

February 2017. Time to conclude the previous year, a year that went by in the<br />

blink of an eye. As to be expected of course, time flies when you’re having fun.<br />

It’s a great pleasure to share our milestones and highlights with you,<br />

our much-appreciated business partner. Hope you’ll enjoy reading.


The market:<br />

increasing demand<br />

for niche brands<br />

The economy is getting back on track, especially in the<br />

particular part of the business we operate in. Demand for<br />

true originals, craftsmanship and authenticity increases.<br />

Our distribution brand portfolio expanded with three truly<br />

unique, distinct brands, each of which amazing in its own<br />

segment. Loved by many, and retailers started working with<br />

these brands enthusiastically. We find that more and more<br />

consumers become aware of the artistic and independent<br />

perfume and cosmetics brands and are looking for ways<br />

to stand out from the crowd. More retailers ‘dare’ to dive<br />

into this niche, by offering brands from the Skins portfolio.<br />

The international niche cosmetics market has grown with<br />

a stunning 15%, whilst the traditional market is slightly<br />

declining.<br />

Widian by AJ Arabia<br />

A unique collection of top-quality, distinctive perfumes that<br />

combine characteristics from the East with traditional features of<br />

French perfuming. The founder from Abu Dhabi was inspired by<br />

his childhood, home and body fragrances playing a leading role<br />

in daily lives. Taking the step to professionalizing this talent was<br />

huge nonetheless. But his vision and elegant taste led to instant<br />

international success, also in The Netherlands and Belgium.<br />

Straight from New York; this brand<br />

represents a new development in<br />

the perfume industry by focusing on<br />

synthetics and emphasizing the power<br />

and versatility of these man-made<br />

ingredients. While ‘natural’ often is the<br />

magic word for consumers, one would<br />

easily forget that today’s perfume<br />

offering would be a lot less exciting<br />

and magical without synthetics. These<br />

powerful ingredients give perfumers<br />

an infinite world of possibilities to<br />

create the most inspiring, enchanting<br />

perfumes that are long lasting on the<br />

skin. The creation and development of<br />

these synthetics in high tech labs is a<br />

time consuming hence costly process.<br />

Nomenclature offers 100% synthetic<br />

perfumes, with a familiar signature.<br />

Perfect for consumers who dare to<br />

leave the beaten path behind and<br />

explore new worlds.<br />

The acme of French chic and sophistication; this new perfume<br />

house has created a new type of perfume: Soft Perfume. Solid<br />

perfume with extras. Namely a nourishing, kind for the skin, highly<br />

concentrated solid perfume, presented in a beautifully illustrated<br />

case. The base for the solid perfume consists of nourishing<br />

butters and oils, each carefully composed to best match the<br />

perfume notes. The most talented French noses developed the<br />

fragrances, which are impressively longlasting. All and all, this<br />

collection of Soft Perfumes, hand and body lotion and the cutest<br />

engraved soaps are perfect for gifting and a great success in our<br />

markets.<br />

Sales Support<br />

Our passionate sales team (Susanne van Harten, Maaike Boomgaard and<br />

Lia Vijzelaar) was enforced by Yvette Roden for back office support. Yvette is<br />

available during office hours to answer your questions, solve any issues and<br />

make sure your orders are processed quick and good.<br />

Training<br />

Knowledge is power in this industry, so we gladly supported you in 2016 with<br />

informative, inspiring training events. Beyond the brand focused training<br />

sessions offered by our sales representatives, we organized several training<br />

days at the new Dutch Headquarters in Amstelveen. In the fully equipped<br />

training room, our professional teams of trainers (Remco Verbooij and Erik van<br />

Hulten) passionately trained over 40 in store ambassadors (staff of our <strong>b2b</strong><br />

clients) with product and brand knowledge as well as sales tips & tricks.<br />

In order to increase sales and share the love for the unique brands we proudly<br />

offer.<br />

Events<br />

Skins Cosmetics organized two ‘meet the creator’ events for <strong>b2b</strong> clients in 2016,<br />

with Romano Ricci celebrating 10 years of Juliette has a gun, and Erwin Creed<br />

launching the latest creation by the House of Creed. The events offered a one<br />

of a kind experience for staff to meet the mastermind behind the brand and to<br />

ask all possible questions, in order to increase knowledge and increase<br />

enthusiasm. Erwin and Romano were thrilled and proud to meet the<br />

ambassadors of their brands (other than the Skins teams).<br />

Behind the scenes<br />

2016 was a year characterized by growth. Moving the Skins Cosmetics<br />

headquarters from the city center to a ‘fully equipped’ office & warehouse<br />

venue in a small town just outside Amsterdam was huge and facilitated the<br />

development and improvement of the distribution business. This process will be<br />

optimized in 2017. Behind the scenes we are working on the launch of an online<br />

B2B order portal which will simplify the order process. Furthermore, this year<br />

will bring about two very exciting projects for Skins Cosmetics:<br />

the Rotterdam store moves to a 300m2 retail location in the new Fashion<br />

District. With in-house City Spa and top notch omni-channel implementation.<br />

And last but not least, this summer Skins Cosmetics goes South-Africa, with<br />

the opening of the first intercontinental store in Johannesburg.<br />
