Week 1 Discussion 1 Transitive and Intransitive Verbs -ASHFORD This is an excerpt from the website of U.S. shipping
company, FedEx. Things you can do on the FedEx website: create a shipment, get rates and transit times, schedule a
pickup, customize your delivery, order shipping supplies, pay your bills online, update your address book, file a claim on
a package. All of the verbs are in the imperative mood. That is, they all look like directives or commands. Are they really
directives or are they choices? What category of verbs are they (i.e., transitive or intransitive)? Are there any direct
objects? Do you think that this type of verb usage is typical for menu items on a website? Why or why not? What
supporting examples can you provide that help you make this argument? (To support or refute, its probably a good idea
to locate other websites with menu lists.)
Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s)
and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates posts by
Day 7. Carefully review the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate this
Discussion Thread.
