ovaj časopis tako poseban.<br />

Prošle godine proslavili smo desetu obljetnicu<br />

i možemo reći da smo zaista mnogo postigli.<br />

Hotel Le Méridien Lav Split sinonim je<br />

luksuznog smještaja, izvrsne gastronomske<br />

ponude i brojnih sadržaja, prvi izbor onih koji<br />

nisu spremni na kompromise kad je u pitanju<br />

Tijekom velikog dijela proteklog desetljeća<br />

naš je hotel bio jedini hotel s 5 zvjezdica u<br />

regiji. Izniman napredak i turistički procvat<br />

cijele regije uz unaprjeđenje kvalitete sadržaja<br />

i ponude vrlo nas raduje, no ujedno i<br />

no što sam više putovao i vidio svijeta,<br />

počeo sam sve više cijeniti to što imam u<br />

svojoj zemlji. Može se reći da učim o svojoj<br />

kulturi i jako sam ponosan na nju.<br />

By learning about other cultures and meeting<br />

new people, traveling makes your mind<br />

open and makes you realize what you have<br />

surrounding you. I did not really care too<br />

much about my Japanese culture when I<br />

lived in Japan, but as I traveled and saw<br />

the world, I started to appreciate what I<br />

had in my country. And now you can even<br />

say that I am learning about my culture<br />

strancu me uvijek oduševljava. Arhitektura<br />

je raznolika i zanimljiva. Ona je mješavina<br />

raznih utjecaja tokom povijesti, od antičkog<br />

Rima sve do Austro - Ugarske monarhije.<br />

I really like the Balkan region. I found Balkan<br />

people to be very kind and welcoming<br />

towards guests. Their willingness to help<br />

complete strangers always amazes me. Architecture<br />

is quite diverse and interesting to<br />

see. It is a mixture of influences throughout<br />

the history, from Ancient Rome to Austro-Hungarian<br />

When I was in Split 2 years ago, I was overwhelmed<br />

by the beauty of Old Town and<br />

that made me want to know how to capture<br />

this beauty in photos. That’s how I started<br />

to learn photography and started to seek<br />

out different places to take photos. Split is<br />

where I started my travelings as well.<br />

Nastojim slati pozitivne poruke putem svojih<br />

fotografija jer smatram da u svijetu postoji<br />

dovoljno negativnosti. Nadam se da<br />

kroz moje fotografije mogu zainteresirati<br />

ljude za neko mjesto, ili pak domaćem stanovništvu<br />

ukazati i nanovo otkriti ljepotu<br />

mjesta u kojem žive. Uvijek nastojim u scenu<br />

uključiti poseban trenutak koji nitko ne<br />

može duplicirati.<br />

I try to send positive messages through my<br />

photos because there is enough negativity in<br />

the world. I hope, through my photos, that I<br />

can make people interested in the place, and<br />

Koju kameru koristite i postoji li neki<br />

poseban razlog tome?<br />

What camera do you use and is there a<br />

special reason why?<br />

Koristim dvije Sonyjeve kamere, a7ii i<br />

a6000. Kad sam prije dvije godine odlučio<br />

učiti o fotografiji Sony mi se činio kao jedini<br />

koji je zaista inovativan u industriji kamera.<br />

Izabrao sam onu koja je u to vrijeme bila<br />

najpolularnija i dostupna, a6000. Mislim<br />

da sada i ostali proizvođači nastoje biti inovativniji,<br />

ali i dalje stojim pri stajalištu da je<br />

Sony jedan korak ispred konkurencije.<br />

I use 2 Sony cameras, a7ii and a6000.<br />

When I decided 2 years ago to learn photography,<br />

Sony seemed to be the only one<br />

that is truly innovating in the camera industry.<br />

I chose what was the most popular and<br />

available at the time, a6000. Now other<br />

manufactures are trying to be innovative,<br />

but I still believe Sony is one step ahead<br />

from its competitors.<br />

Do you follow trends in photography?<br />

Generalno govoreći, ne, ali dok sam na primjer<br />

u Splitu, nastojim se preko društvenih<br />

mreža povezati s lokalnim stanovništvom<br />

i osobama koje posjećuju Split. Pogledam<br />

neke od njihovih fotografija, te na taj način<br />

naučim o lokaciji iz perspektive putnika ili žitelja.<br />

Pretražim fotografije i na Googlu, provjerim<br />

što je popularno te na taj način nastojim<br />

vidjeti kako biti drugačiji od ostalih.<br />

In general sense, no, but when I am in, for<br />

example, Split, I will try to engage on social<br />

media with the local people and people visiting<br />

Split. I check their photos, and learn<br />

about the location from traveler’s and local’s<br />

point of view. I will also search photos on<br />

Google to see what is popular and seek out<br />

how I can be different from others.<br />

most?<br />

Rad Ansela Adamsa, on je bio umjetnik s<br />

velikim tehničkim znanjem. Također, bio je<br />

apsolutni perfekcionist. Njegovi neiscrpni<br />

napori da zabilježi savršen trenutak su me<br />

inspirirali da budem strpljiv.<br />

Ansel Adams, because he was both technical<br />

and artistic. He was also an absolute<br />

perfectionist. His untiring efforts to capture<br />

the perfect moment inspired me to have patience.<br />

Fotografiju sam uslikao u Brooklynu, New<br />

York. Vidio sam fotografije tog mjesta od<br />

mog kolege fotografa. Kad sam došao New<br />

York to mjesto je bilo na mojoj listi za posjetiti.<br />

Kad sam došao na lokaciju vrijeme<br />

je bilo stvarno savršeno.<br />

Zalazak sunca koji sam uslikao u Motovunu.<br />

U Motovunu sam ostao 2 dana. Sjećam<br />

se da sam bio jako umoran zbog mnogo<br />

putovanja, ali sam znao da mogu zabilježiti<br />

lijepe fotografije ako me vrijeme posluži.<br />

Upravo zbog tog sam se 2 dana za redom<br />

ustajao prije zore. Zadnji dan sam uslikao<br />

savršenu fotografiju.<br />

Uhvatiti ljetni zalazak sunca u<br />

Europi je zbilja izazov. Trebao sam se ustati<br />

prije 4:30 ujutro kako bih stigao do lokacije<br />

i nadao se da će stići savršen trenutak.<br />

Odlazio sam pet puta na isto mjesto i ova<br />

fotografija je najbolja do sada.<br />

A photo I took in Brooklyn, New York. I saw<br />

photos of this spot from my fellow photographer.<br />

And when I visited New York, that was<br />

one of the places on my bucket list. When I<br />

got there, the weather was just perfect.<br />

Sunrise I took in Motovun. I stayed in Motovun<br />

for 2 days. Because I was traveling a<br />

lot, I remember I was so tired and sleepy,<br />

but I knew I could get great shots if the<br />

weather was right. So I woke up before<br />

sunrise 2 days in a row. The last day, I got<br />

the perfect shot.<br />

in Europe is challenging. I had to wake up<br />

before 4:30 am to reach the location and<br />

hope for the best moment to come. I went<br />

to this same spot 5 times and this photo is<br />

What motivates you to continue taking<br />

photographs?<br />

Volim ono što radim. Volim cijeli proces fotografiranja,<br />

editiranja i dijeljenja fotografija.<br />

A znajući da imam pratitelje koji cijene<br />

to što radim mi predstavlja veliki motiv da<br />

nastavim.<br />

I love what I am doing. I love the whole<br />

process of taking, editing, and sharing photos.<br />

And knowing that I have followers who<br />

appreciate what I do is a huge motive for<br />

me to continue.<br />

Koji su Vaši planovi za budućnost? Gdje<br />

dalje želite ići?<br />

What are your future plans? Where do<br />

you want to go next?<br />

Želim i dalje kreirati sadržaj koji izaziva pozitivne<br />

emocije, bilo da se radi o fotografiji,<br />

filmu ili nečem drugom. Želim ostati relevantan<br />

prema tome što se svakodnevno događa<br />

u svijetu i uvijek biti spreman krenuti<br />

dalje u novi projekt.<br />

I want to keep creating content which<br />

brings out positive emotions, whether it will<br />

be photography, film or something else. I<br />

would like to stay relevant to what is happening<br />

in the world and always be ready to<br />

move on to the new project.<br />

Are you planning to come back to Split<br />

any time soon?<br />

Split je grad koji najradije posjećujem. Otkako<br />

sam prvi put prije par godina posjetio<br />

Split, vraćao sam se tri puta. Siguran sam<br />

da ću uskoro opet imati priliku vratiti se.<br />

Split is my favorite city to visit. Since I first<br />

visited Split few years ago I went back 3<br />

times already. I am sure I will have a chance<br />

to go back sometime soon.<br />

vidjeti kako se jela spremaju i tko ih sprema,<br />

stoga mnogi novi restorani imaju otvorene<br />

kuhinje. U prošlosti, kuhari gotovo da<br />

nisu izlazili iz kuhinje dok se danas može<br />

vidjeti mnogo više interakcije između kuhara<br />

i samih gostiju. Nekada je bilo nezamislivo<br />

vidjeti gosta u kuhinji, dok je to danas<br />

postalo normalna stvar. U budućnosti očekujem<br />

The kitchen is not any more a secret place in<br />

the restaurant. The guest wants to see who<br />

is cooking and how. A lot of newly opened<br />

restaurants have an open kitchen. Back<br />

in the day the chef was hidding inside the<br />

kitchen, but the lately you see a lot of interaction<br />

between chefs and guests. It used to<br />

be out of question to see a customer inside<br />

the kitchen, nowadays it is almost a regular<br />

thing and we (chefs) don’t have secrets anymore.<br />

In the future, I think we are going to<br />

have even more contact with guests when it<br />

comes to their food preferences and needs.<br />

With the new technology in the kitchen we<br />

will be able to do much more.<br />

Kad sam imao 9 ili 10 godina počeo sam<br />

niraju razne stvari, npr. kako je jesti kisele<br />

krastavce s jogurtom. U malo zrelijoj dobi,<br />

kad roditelji nisu bili kod kuće, radio sam<br />

peciva prema receptima moje majke..........<br />

naravno osim peciva napravio sam i mnogo<br />

nereda (smijeh).<br />

At the age of 9 or 10 I have started to<br />

experiment with different ingredients and<br />

flavours in the kitchen. I wanted to see<br />

how does it taste to eat yogurt with pickles<br />

and similar things. When I got a little<br />

bit older and my parents were not at<br />

home, I took my mother’s recipe book and<br />

made pastries.......of course I made a lot of<br />

mess as well (laugh).<br />

Jeste li se htjeli baviti nečim drugim<br />

prije nego što ste se počeli baviti<br />

Was there anything that you wanted to<br />

do before you started cooking?<br />

Uvijek sam htio raditi nešto u vezi automobila<br />

i kamiona. Čim sam otišao na prvi sat<br />

kuhanja potpuno sam zaboravio na automobile<br />

i zaljubio se u hranu i kuhinju.<br />

I’ve always wanted to do something involving<br />

cars or trucks. As soon as I had my first<br />

cooking lesson I completely forgot about<br />

cars and fell in love with food and kitchen.<br />

Postoje li sastojci koje nikako ne volite<br />

upotrebljavati?<br />

Are there any ingredients that you don’t<br />

like to use?<br />

To je jedan brzo rastući grad koji želi biti<br />

najbolji u svemu. Organiziran je na principu<br />

„čega nema, kupit ćemo“.<br />

How do you keep up with culinary<br />

trends and what are they?<br />

Hranu, naravno. Preporučam uživanje u zalasku<br />

sunca uz ukusni odrezak i čašu crnog<br />

vina, u našem restoranu 7 Palmi.<br />

What do you eat at home?<br />

Ništa specijalno, uglavnom tjesteninu ili<br />

salatu jer imam malo slobodnog vremena.<br />

meksičku, azijsku, grčku (moja žena je grkinja)<br />

ili neku klasičnu nizozemsku hranu.<br />

Do you have any hobbies? What do you<br />

Volim raditi iste stvari kao i naši gosti,<br />

I like to do the same thing as what my<br />

guests are doing, that’s explore the country,<br />

Kako i kada ste počeli igrati šah?<br />

How and when did you start playing<br />

chess?<br />

Nemam točnu dob koju bih mogao reći, jer<br />

to je bilo puno prije Twittera i ostalih društvenih<br />

mreža gdje je pri svakoj objavi dokumentiran<br />

i datum. No, mislim da sam imao<br />

oko 5 i pol. Krenuo sam sa šahom nakon<br />

što sam vidio svoje roditelje kako igraju.<br />

Nedugo zatim sam shvatio bit igre i pravila,<br />

pa sam ih s vremenom i savjetovao o taktici.<br />

Barem tako priča moja obitelj.<br />

I don’t have an exact age I can give because<br />

this was before the time of Twitter and social<br />

media, when everything is documented<br />

and we can date events to a particular<br />

post. But I was somewhere around 5 1/2.<br />

I picked it up after observing my parents<br />

solving a problem. I came to understand the<br />

rules and started giving them recommendations,<br />

and it all started from there, as our<br />

family’s telling of the story goes.<br />

Što ste sve naučili igrajući šah?<br />

What lessons has chess taught you?<br />

Upravo na tu temu sam napisao knjigu How<br />

Life Imitates Chess i mislim da bih se u njoj<br />

mogao naći pravi odgovor na to pitanje,<br />

kako nas taktika igre šaha može naučiti kako<br />

biti bolji u poslu, politici i životu općenito.<br />

Šah je imao velik utjecaj na mene i način na<br />

koji sam razvio svoj karakter. Naučio sam<br />

jednu vrlo vrijednu životnu lekciju – nikad se<br />

ne treba predavati. Ne bi trebali odustajati<br />

čim na putu naiđemo na poteškoće. Uvijek<br />

trebamo težiti ka boljem, i kad postignemo<br />

uspjeh ne zastati, već proanalizirati i vidjeti<br />

kako sljedeći put može bit još i bolje.<br />

I wrote an entire book on this topic! How<br />

Life Imitates Chess can provide a much<br />

more detailed answer to this question,<br />

touching on all the ways chess can teach<br />

us to be better in business, politics, and<br />

life in general. For me, chess has had an<br />

enormous impact in shaping my character.<br />

I learned one of the most important lessons<br />

in life: it’s not over until it’s over. You<br />

have to fight your battles to the end and<br />

not give up as soon as things get difficult.<br />

Another key lesson useful for virtually any<br />

area of life is to constantly challenge your<br />

own excellence. Don’t be complacent after<br />

a success, but analyze what happened and<br />

how you can keep improving.<br />

Kada biste mogli nanovo odigrati<br />

jednu od Vaših partija šaha, koju biste<br />

najradije izabrali?<br />

If you could replay one of your chess<br />

games, which one would you choose?<br />

Ako mislite koja mi je najdraža, moram priznati<br />

da je na to pitanje teško odgovoriti<br />

jer postoji mnogo kriterija prema kojima se<br />

ocjenjuje igra. No, mogu dati primjer dviju<br />

partija koje se ističu svaka za sebe. Jedna<br />

je 24. po redu protiv Karpova u Moskvi<br />

1985. g. kada sam odnio pobijedu i postao<br />

svjetski prvak. Ta partija nosi posebnu povijesnu<br />

i sportsku vrijednost. Posebno mi je<br />

draga i partija koja je tako prekrasno i sofisticirano<br />

odigrana 1999. protiv Veselina<br />

Topalova u Wijik Aan Zeeu, što je ujedno i<br />

najljepši šah koji sam ikad odigrao.<br />

If you mean my favorite game, this is a<br />

hard question because there are so many<br />

different criteria by which one can judge<br />

games. I can give two examples of games<br />

that stand out to me, for entirely different<br />

reasons. In terms of historical importance<br />

and pure sporting value, I would have to<br />

say the 24th match game against Karpov<br />

in Moscow in 1985 when I became world<br />

champion. In terms of beauty and sophistication,<br />

though, I would have to say my<br />

1999 game against Veselin Topalov at Wijk<br />

aan Zee, which was some of the greatest<br />

chess I have ever played.<br />

Izgleda da je danas šahu potrebna<br />

svježina te da mu nedostaje<br />

popularnosti i priznanja koje zaslužuje.<br />

Kako Vi vidite budućnost šaha?<br />

It seems the world of chess needs<br />

a facelift and lacks recognition and<br />

popularity it deserves. How do you see<br />

the future of chess?<br />

Mislim da glavni problem nije šah kao igra,<br />

već ogromna konkurencija koju možemo vidjeti.<br />

Na svjetskom prvenstvu 1972., kada<br />

su igrali Spassky i Fischer, bilo je daleko<br />

manje sadržaja dostupnih ljudima. Danas<br />

su se stvari promijenile, šah kao i informacije<br />

o šahu, natjecanjima i sl. su mnogo dostupnije.<br />

Upravo zbog toga sam osnovao<br />

Kasparov Chess Foundation, kako bi popularizirao<br />

igru i više je približio javnosti. Optimističan<br />

sam glede šaha, jer ovakvoj igri<br />

tehnologija ide na ruku. Dakako, šah nikad<br />

neće biti popularan poput tenisa ili nogometa,<br />

no njegova popularnost raste kod<br />

korisnika iPhonea. U ovakvom slučaju vrlo<br />

je važno iskoristiti medije poput Facebooka,<br />

gdje bi ova igra doživjela pravi procvat.<br />

I think the main problem is not specific<br />

to chess—it’s the huge competition we<br />

are seeing for the public’s attention. When<br />

Spassky and Fischer played for the world<br />

championship in 1972, there was far less<br />

content out there to consume. The chess<br />

world is much bigger now, but the overall<br />

volume of information and entertainment<br />

available to us has also grown at an unprecedented<br />

rate. I founded the Kasparov Chess<br />

Foundation in part to solve this problem, by<br />

popularizing the game at a grassroots level.<br />

I have to say I am optimistic about the<br />

future of chess because I think the game is<br />

the perfect fit for the new technologies at<br />

our disposal. We will obviously lose against<br />

sports like tennis and soccer on the big<br />

screen, but I think we can win on the iPhone.<br />

It’s about creating the right product<br />

to take advantage of the medium; I think a<br />

cijela zemlja zaista prekrasna. Prije sam s obitelji odmore provodio<br />

u Makarskoj, Rovinju i Crvenom otoku, ali moram priznati da mi je<br />

danas najdraže boraviti u blizini Le Méridiena zbog prekrasnih plaža i<br />

popratnog sadržaja.<br />

Šah je imao velik utjecaj na mene<br />

karakter. Naučio sam jednu vrlo<br />

vrijednu životnu lekciju – nikad se<br />

ne treba predavati.<br />

I’ve been to so many places in Croatia and find the entire country<br />

beautiful. I love the Méridien of course, and my family spent many<br />

years vacationing in Makarska, and before that Rovinj, the Red<br />

Island. But now we spend most of our time near Le Méridien, and the<br />

facilities and nearby beaches are fantastic, so I would say that is my<br />

favorite these days!<br />

popularnost šaha na novu razinu?<br />

Is it possible that someone like Magnus<br />

Carlsen, sort of a cool nerd, takes chess<br />

to a new level of popularity?<br />

Super je imati svjetskog prvaka kao što je<br />

Magnus. Ima dobar nastup, dobro se nosi s<br />

medijima te je porijeklom sa zapada, što je<br />

rijetkost za svjetske prvake u šahu. No, jedna<br />

osoba ne može donijeti promjene. Šah<br />

je postao dio svakodnevnice te je integriran<br />

u kulturalnom i digitalnom smislu, kao što<br />

sam gore već spomenuo.<br />

I think it’s good to have someone like Magnus<br />

as world champion. He has great presence,<br />

he engages with the press, and he<br />

is from the West, which is rare for world<br />

champions. But one person is not going to<br />

change everything. Chess has to become<br />

part of the mainstream and become integrated<br />

into our cultural and digital worlds,<br />

as I mentioned above.<br />

Koji je vaš najdraži šahist?<br />

Your favorite chess player of all time?<br />

Jako je teško odgovoriti na to pitanje! Nemoguće<br />

je ocijeniti igru prema jednom kriteriju,<br />

jer su svi igrači živjeli u različitom vremenu,<br />

te se svaki od njih koristio različitim<br />

taktikama za to vrijeme. Današnji prosiječni<br />

igrač šaha ima puno više znanja i razvijeniju<br />

taktiku nego što je u to vrijeme imao Fischer.<br />

Slično ovom bi bilo da me pitate što mislite<br />

tko je bio bolji znanstvenik – Einstein ili<br />

Newton, što je nemoguće za odgovoriti. Tokom<br />

odrastanja, Aleksandar Alekhine mi je<br />

bio omiljen zbog svoje blistave igre i mislim<br />

da je moj stil igranja najsličniji njegovom.<br />

This is an impossible question to answer! If<br />

I had to judge based on their skill, it would<br />

be impossible, all lived at different times,<br />

and it would not be a fair match-up because<br />

they all had different tools and resources<br />

available to them. Even an average player<br />

today taking advantage of all the new chess<br />

programs out there will have more knowledge<br />

at his fingertips than Fischer ever had.<br />

So this question for me is like distinguishing<br />

between scientists like Einstein and Newton<br />

- it’s not a fair comparison. When I was<br />

growing up, Alexander Alekhine was my favorite<br />

for his dazzling games, and it is in his<br />

lineage that I consider my own chess style.<br />

karijerom i ima li kakvih sličnosti sa<br />

šahom?<br />

How do you cope with your new career<br />

and are there any differences and<br />

similarities to chess?<br />

Zahvalan sam što sam završio s prijelaznim<br />

razdobljem u kojem sam se odmicao od profesionalnog<br />

šaha, kako u poslovnom tako i<br />

u privatnom životu. Prilagodio sam se novoj<br />

rutini i odgovornostima. Moram zahvaliti<br />

svojoj ženi Dashi koja mi je olakšala ovo<br />

prijelazno razdoblje, to ne bih mogao postići<br />

bez nje. Ovih dana provodim oko jedne trećine<br />

vremena na aktivnosti vezane uz šah,<br />

zahvaljujući mojem radu na temu, tako da<br />

nisam potpuno napustio taj svijet! Ali većina<br />

vremenami odlazi na pisanje, razen stručne<br />

i motivacijske govore te politički aktivizam<br />

vezan za ljudska prava. Raznolikost posla je<br />

izazovna i vrlo uzbudljiva, ali također jako<br />

različita od šaha - u stvarnom svijetu nema<br />

postavljenih pravila, pa bez obzira koliko je<br />

dobra vaša strategija, morate stalno biti<br />

spremni za nepredvidive prepreke.<br />

I’m grateful that I am now finished with<br />

the transition period away from professional<br />

chess, in both my business and personal<br />

lives. I have adapted to my new routine and<br />

responsibilities. I have to credit my wife Dasha<br />

for facilitating the smoothness of this<br />

transition, which I could not have accomplished<br />

without her. These days, I still spend<br />

about one-third of my time on chess-related<br />

activities, thanks to my foundation work,<br />

so I haven’t completely left that world! But<br />

most of my time is spent on writing, speaking,<br />

and human rights political activism. I<br />

find the variety of work challenging and exciting,<br />

but very different from chess - there<br />

are no set rules in the real world, so no matter<br />

how good your strategy, you have to constantly<br />

be ready for unpredictable obstacles.<br />

Vaša organizacija Kasparov Chess<br />

Adriatic je organizirala turnir u<br />

Splitu. Jeste li zadovoljni njezinom<br />

dosadašnjom ulogom te koji su planovi<br />

za budućnost?<br />

Your foundation Kasparov Chess<br />

Adriatic organized a chess tournament<br />

in Split. Are you satisfied with its work<br />

so far and what are the plans for the<br />

years to come?<br />

Jako sam ponosan na njezin rad do sada.<br />

Ove godine slavimo 15 godina od osnutka<br />

u SAD-u. Od tada smo pokrenuli organizacije<br />

u Europi (Bruxelles), Africi (Johannesburg),<br />

Aziji i Pacifiku (Singapur) i Latino<br />

Americi (Mexico City). Naravno, kao hrvatski<br />

građanin pokrenuo sam i KCF Adriatic,<br />

kao i francusku inačicu KCF Francophone<br />

u Parizu za sve države s francuskog govornog<br />

područja.<br />

KCF Adriatic vrlo brzo napreduje. Na Božić<br />

će se održati turnir u Zagrebu, nakon<br />

čega ću odigrati jednu simultanku koja će<br />

se prikazivati na televiziji i na kojoj će prisustvovati<br />

brojni političari i poslovni ljudi.<br />

Ove godine turniri će se održati u Zagrebu,<br />

Zadru, i Crikvenici. Naš osnovni cilj je<br />

približiti igranje šaha djeci u Hrvatskoj i u<br />

ostatku zemalja južne Europe.<br />

I am very proud of our work thus far. This<br />

year marks the 15th anniversary of our<br />

founding in the U.S. Since then, new KCF<br />

entities opened Europe (Brussels), Africa<br />

(Johannesburg), Asia-Pacific (Singapore)<br />

and Ibero-America (Mexico City). Naturally,<br />

as a Croatian citizen I opened KCF Adriatic,<br />

and the latest edition is KCF Francophone<br />

in Paris, which will represent many<br />

French-speaking countries. KCF Adriatic is<br />

developing quickly. Now we have a Christmas<br />

tournament in Zagreb, after which I<br />

play a televised simultaneous exhibition,<br />

and it is well-attended by politicians and<br />

businessmen. This year we will have tournaments<br />

in Zagreb, Zadar, and Crkvenica.<br />

Our efforts are leading more kids to pursue<br />

chess in Croatia, which is my main goal. We<br />

are trying now to build a stronghold across<br />

the south of Europe; the former Yugoslavia<br />

had a very strong chess tradition that no<br />

one is leveraging at the moment.<br />

Zbija obožavam sve što dolazi iz mediteranske<br />

kuhinje, volim prirodnu i svježe pripremljenu<br />

hranu. Ipak, najviše me se dojmilo<br />

janjeće pečenje, pripremljeno od mlade<br />

janjetine, ali i sve ostalo što sam imao priliku<br />

probati je jednako ukusno!<br />

I enjoy most everything that comes out of<br />

the Mediterranean kitchen; I like food that<br />

is natural and freshly prepared. I will say<br />

that I especially like the dish janjeće pečenje,<br />

made with baby lamb, but everything is<br />

delicious!<br />

mogu proizvesti i više sile. Upravo zbog toga se preporučuje<br />

raditi vježbe većeg intenziteta i manjeg broja ponavljanja<br />

kako bi ovi mišići došli do izražaja. Kako bi postigli optimalne<br />

rezultate najbolje je raditi od 3 do 5 serija sa 12 do 15<br />

ponavljanja po svakoj grupaciji mišića trupa.<br />

at the pubic bone and ending at the sternum. It is<br />

located inside the abdominal region. The muscle is activated<br />

while doing crunches because it pulls the ribs and the<br />

pelvis in and curves the back.<br />

EXERCISE: CRUNCHES (1)<br />

Oblique muscles – internal oblique muscles, transversus<br />

abdominis and external oblique muscles. Their main function<br />

is core rotation.<br />

EXCERCISE: OBLIQUE CRUNCHES (2)<br />

The internal intercostal muscles – group of skeletal<br />

muscles located between the ribs. The internal intercostal<br />

muscles are responsible for forced exhalation.<br />

EXCERCISE: HAND (ARM) BIKE<br />

Serratus anterior – a group of muscles connected to the<br />

rib cage, which help stabilize the shoulder.<br />

Number of repetitions<br />

The muscles of the torso are built of fast muscle fibers.<br />

Fast fibers are denser, more tense and bigger than slow<br />

fibers and thus can produce more force. This is why it is<br />

recommended to do exercises of higher intensity and a<br />

smaller number of repetitions. To achieve optimal results,<br />

it’s best to do 3-5 series with 12 to 15 repetitions for each<br />

Otkako je u naš život došla kćer Zorka naše<br />

pakiranje je svakako dobilo novu dimenziju.<br />

Sada većinu putne prtljage zauzmu njene<br />

igračke i odjeća, a mjesto koje ostane za<br />

mene popunim najpotrebnijim i najudobnijim.<br />

Nekada su za mene pakiranja bila izvlačenje<br />

kompletnog sadržaja ormara i guranje<br />

u uvijek premali kofer, ma koliko velik<br />

bio nikada nije bilo dovoljno. Danas je to<br />

posve druga priča. Moram priznati kako je<br />

ipak puno praktičnije ovako.<br />

What do you recommend for holiday<br />

packing, and what should be avoided?<br />

Kod pakiranja definitivno preporučam da<br />

se provjeri kakvo će biti vrijeme. Također,<br />

svrha putovanja igra veliku ulogu u pakiranju<br />

kofera. Za putovanje kakvog god karaktera<br />

uvijek ponesem udobne tenisice jer<br />

se na svakom putovanju beskonačno hoda.<br />

Također, ono što se u mom koferu uvijek<br />

nađe je kupaći kostim, jer nikada ne znam<br />

kada će mi se osmjehnuti sreća da uskočim<br />

u neki bazen ili more. Obavezan je jedan<br />

odjevni klasik – poput jeansa, bijelog T-shirta<br />

ili bijele košulje koju najčešće izbjegavam<br />

zbog gužvanja, jedna lijepa marama ili šal<br />

i svakako par odgovarajućih sunčanih naočala.<br />

I naravno kozmetika i omiljeni miris.<br />

Jedna jakna ili jedan par klasičnih cipela na<br />

petu, kao i maksimalno dva para sunčanih<br />

naočala sasvim su dovoljni po putovanju.<br />

travel should be taken into consideration.<br />

a good idea due to the fact that every trip<br />

dana od OI u Riu, sigurni smo da su se<br />

dojmovi u potpunosti slegli. Što sad,<br />

jeste li se već krenuli pripremat za<br />

sljedeće OI u Tokiu?<br />

down since OI in Rio. So, what now? Are<br />

you preparing for the next OI in Tokyo?<br />

U ovoj sezoni najbitnije mi je Svjetsko prvenstvo<br />

u Splitu, tako da su sve pripreme<br />

usmjerene isključivo na to. Godinama smo<br />

pokušavali dobiti domaćinstvo i ove godine<br />

nam je to uspjelo. Mislim da je to veliki<br />

uspjeh za Split i naš klub te da će nam pomoći<br />

u populariziranju jedrenja. Neki daljni<br />

cilj je olimpijada u Tokiju, gdje bi htio ispraviti<br />

grešku iz Rija. To neće biti tako jednostavno<br />

jer do sada nisam jedrio u Japanu,<br />

zato se moram što prije upoznati s uvalom<br />

jer su drugačiji uvjeti, vjetar i valovi.<br />

The most important competition in this season<br />

is World Cup in Split, so entire focus is<br />

on it. We’ve been trying for years to become<br />

a host of World Cup and this year we finally<br />

succeeded. I think it is a great achievement<br />

for Split and our club, so I hope it will influence<br />

the popularization of sailing. Furthermore,<br />

OI in Tokyo is competition where I’d<br />

like to correct mistake made in Rio. It won’t<br />

be easy since I haven’t been sailing in Japan<br />

where wind and waves are different than in<br />

Croatia, so getting familiar with local conditions<br />

will be crucial for success.<br />

Koji su Vam najdraži uspjesi u<br />

dosadašnjoj karijeri?<br />

Can you single out the most favourite<br />

achievements in your career?<br />

Sigurno da mi je srebro iz Rija najdraža<br />

medalja, ali jednako tako mi je draga i prva<br />

medalja koju sam dobio sa 13 godina na<br />

Svjetskom prvenstvu na Karibima. Bilo je<br />

to moje prvo veliko natjecanje i nisam imao<br />

pojma koliko vrijedim u svjetskim okvirima.<br />

Nakon osvajanja medalje počeo sam se<br />

ozbiljnije baviti jedrenjem, a 2010. godine<br />

sam osvojio prvu seniorsku medalju na Europskom<br />

prvenstvu u Estoniji. Tako da su<br />

mi te tri medalje najdraže.<br />

Certanly, silver medal from Rio is my favourite<br />

achievement, but equally important<br />

is my first medal from the World Cup in the<br />

Caribbean when I was 13. It was my first<br />

major race and I wasn’t aware of my worth<br />

in global terms. After winning the medal, I<br />

have started with serious sailing practices<br />

and in 2010 I won the first senior medal at<br />

the European championship in Estonia. So,<br />

those three achievements are my favourite.<br />

Kako ste se odlučili baviti jedrenjem?<br />

How did you decide to engage in<br />

sailing?<br />

Otac mi se bavio jedrenjem i vaterpolom,<br />

a uz to iznimno voli brodove. Zbog toga, a<br />

i činjenice da smo živili blizu splitske lučice<br />

stalno sam bio blizu mora i jedrilica. Jednom<br />

prilikom, kad je otac svoj novi brod odvezao<br />

u luku, točno ispred kluba Mornar, vidio sam<br />

jedrilice iz blizine i zaljubio se na prvi pogled.<br />

Otac mi je u tom trenutku rekao da se mogu<br />

upisati na jedrenje kada dobijem diplomu iz<br />

plivanja. Sa 8 godina sam dobio diplomu i<br />

isti dan se upisao na treninge.<br />

My father was engaged in sailing and water<br />

polo and he really adores boats. Also, we<br />

lived near Split harbor, so I was surrounded<br />

by the sea and sailboats. First time I saw<br />

sailboats and fell in love with them, was<br />

when my father brought his new boat in<br />

harbor, in front of the sailing club Mornar.<br />

He told me that I can join the club when I<br />

get my from swimming certificate. I finally<br />

joined the club when I was 8 years old.<br />

Pratite li neke druge sportove?<br />

Are you following any other sports?<br />

Pratim uglavnom sve sportove, pogotovo<br />

gdje sudjeluju naši sportaši. Posebno mi je<br />

zanimljiv tenis, iako najiskrenije nisam baš<br />

neki tenisač.<br />

I follow almost every sport, especially the<br />

ones in which our Croatian athletes participate.<br />

The most interesting one is tennis, although<br />

I am not such a great player.<br />

Jeste li ikada trenirali nešto drugo?<br />

Have you ever trained anything else?<br />

Jednom prilikom sam zbog lošeg vremena<br />

bio neraspoložen na treningu i naljutio<br />

se na trenera. Rekao sam roditeljima da ću<br />

se prebaciti na nogomet, ali kad je trebalo<br />

otići na trening, odustao sam u zadnji tren.<br />

Već idući dan sam se vratio u jedriličarski<br />

klub i od tada sam svaki dan tamo. Danas<br />

povremeno igram nogomet s prijateljima<br />

iako sam jedno vrijeme imao zabranu zbog<br />

ozljede koljena.<br />

On one occasion I was out of tune because<br />

of the bad weather during the practice and<br />

got angry at the coach. I told my parents<br />

that I will start playing football, but I never<br />

did. The very next day I’ve returned to<br />

my sailing club and I have been there ever<br />

since. Nowadays, I occasionaly play football<br />

with my friends although I wasn’t able for a<br />

while due to knee injury.<br />

Kakvi ste bili dok ste bili mlađi. Imate li<br />

nekakvu smiješnu anegdotu koju biste<br />

htjeli podijeliti sa našim čitateljima?<br />

How would you describe yourself as a<br />

young man? Do you have any anecdotes<br />

to share with our readers?<br />

Nemam baš neku anegdotu koju bih izdvojio.<br />

Uglavnom sam bio miran i gledao svoja<br />

posla. Iako bi se u pubertetu znao posvađati<br />

s prijateljima iz kluba, sve je to uglavnom<br />

bilo u žaru sportske borbe.<br />

I don’t have any anecdotes to single out.<br />

Mostly, I was calm and minding my own<br />

business. While in puberty, I was prone to<br />

make arguments with my teammates, but it<br />

was only in the heat of moment.<br />

Postoji li još nešto, uz jedrenje, što<br />

volite? Nešto što biste mogli nazvati<br />

vašom drugom strasti, hobijem...<br />

Is there anything else you enjoy beside<br />

sailing? Something you consider as your<br />

hobby or other passion.<br />

Prije 3 godine sam nabavio jedan brod u dosta<br />

lošem stanju pa sam ga sa ocem počeo<br />

obnavljati i sređivati. Kada nisam bio na<br />

treningu, provodio bi vrijeme na brodu pa<br />

su me u klubu počeli zezati da se bavim jedrenjem,<br />

a da mi je hobi jedrenje. Osim toga,<br />

imam lovačkog psa kojemu je potrebno dosta<br />

aktivnosti pa u slobodno vrijeme idem u<br />

šetnje s njim. Jedno je sigurno, nikada ne mirujem.<br />

Jednostavno, ne mogu se zamisliti na<br />

kauču kako satima gledam televiziju.<br />

Well, 3 years ago I bought a boat in poor<br />

condition and started fixing and renewing<br />

it together with my father. When I wasn’t<br />

training, I would spend my time on the boat,<br />

so my teammates were teasing me that my<br />

job is sailing, and my hobby is also sailing.<br />

Besides, I have a hunting dog, requiring a<br />

lot of activities, so most of my free time is<br />

dedicated to him. One thing is certain, I am<br />

always active and can not imagine myself as<br />

a couch potato.<br />

Imate li neka omiljena mjesta u Splitu?<br />

What are your favourite places in Split?<br />

Svakako je to Splitska riva, Dioklecijanova<br />

palača i Đardin gdje se može vidjeti najviše<br />

zanimljivosti. Ja osobno volim popiti kavu<br />

na zapadnoj obali i u Getu.<br />

The most interesting places are definitely<br />

The Riva, Diocletian’s palace and Đardin. I<br />

enjoy drinking coffee on the west coast and<br />

in the „Gheto“.<br />

would you recommend to our readers?<br />

Kad sam bio mlađi, s roditeljima sam obišao<br />

sam cijelu našu obalu. Definitivno bi<br />

preporučio Mljet, gdje sam se opuštao prije<br />

Olimpijskih igara u Riju. To je predivan otok,<br />

idealan za punjenje baterija.<br />

When I was younger, I have visited the<br />

entire Croatian coast with my parents. I<br />

would definitely recommend the island of<br />

Mljet where I spent my vacation before OI<br />

in Rio. It is a beautiful island, ideal for energetic<br />

recovery.<br />

Imate li neko mjesto koje biste željeli<br />

posjetiti?<br />

Is there any destination you would like<br />

to visit?<br />

Htio bi posjetiti Novi Zeland jer mi se<br />

tamo čini prelijepo, a i jedrenje im je nacionalni<br />

sport. Inače ne volim dugačka<br />

putovanja i letove, ali možda bude nekakvo<br />

natjecanje pa će mi biti drago spojiti<br />

ugodno s korisnim.<br />

New Zeland sounds like beautiful place, so I<br />

would definitely like to go there. Also, sailing<br />

is a national sport there which makes this<br />

place even more attractive to me. Normally,<br />

I don’t prefer long trips and flights, but if<br />

any competition takes place there, it would<br />

be nice to combine business with pleasure.<br />

Odien plans.<br />

Odien trenutno investira u medije, sport, distribuciju<br />

električne energije, turizam, nekretnine<br />

te naravno, hotele i resorte. Uzbuđeni<br />

smo zbog poslovanja u Hrvatskoj, koja nam<br />

je trenutno primarno tržište. Također planiramo<br />

akvizicije hotela i resorta te razmatramo<br />

mogućnosti za širenje na tržište nekretnina.<br />

Odien currently has investments in media,<br />

sports, energy distribution, tourism, real estate<br />

development, and of course, hotels &<br />

resorts. We are excited about Croatia and it<br />

is a priority market for us. We are targeting<br />

hotel and resort acquisitions as well as real<br />

estate development opportunities.<br />

Prošlo je godinu dana otkako ste<br />

preuzeli Le Méridien Lav. Koja su Vaša<br />

razmišljanja?<br />

It’s been a year since buying LML. Your<br />

thoughts?<br />

Ove godine imali smo pregršt posla na projektima<br />

vezanima uz poslovanje Lava. Otvorili<br />

smo restorane 7 Palms i Conlemani, caffe<br />

bar Zootz, postavili smo privatne ležaljke<br />

s baldahinima te proširili šetnicu hotela. U<br />

lipnju ćemo otvoriti Gooshter Beach Club.<br />

Naše usluge i efikasnost poslovanja su se<br />

vidno unaprijedili. Prema osvrtima naših<br />

klijenata, slovimo za jedan od najboljih Le<br />

Merdien hotela u Europi, što nas motivira da<br />

budemo još i bolji. Doista sam sretan te vrlo<br />

optimističan što se tiče budućnosti hotela!<br />

It was a busy year. We opened the 7 Palms<br />

and Conlemani restaurants, the Zoots cafe,<br />

installed private cabanas, and upgraded<br />

our board-walk area. In June, we will open<br />

our Gooshter beach club. Services were upgraded<br />

and our performance has improved.<br />

Based on client input, we are one of the best<br />

Le Méridiens in Europe. We will only get better.<br />

I am happy and excited about the future.<br />

What are your plans with LML?<br />

Osmislili smo vrlo ambiciozan plan kako bismo<br />

u potpunosti transformirali Le Meridien<br />

Lav. Tijekom sljedeće četiri godine u hotel<br />

Lav i popratne sadržaje planiramo investirati<br />

10 milijuna eura. Planiramo kompletno<br />

renovirati spa centar, produljiti marinu za<br />

brodove, uljepšati naše plaže te preurediti<br />

apartmane i sobe.<br />

Koje su neke od najvećih lekcija koje su<br />

utjecale na Vaš način rada?<br />

What were some of the biggest lessons<br />

that impacted the way you work?<br />

Moto izviđača je “uvijek budi spreman”. Budući<br />

da sam kao trinaestogodišnjak bio izviđač,<br />

koristim upravo taj moto u životu, bez<br />

obzira na to radi li se o sportu ili o poslu.<br />

Ostala jednostavna pravila kojih se pridržavam<br />

su: slušati, obvezati se na izvrsnost i<br />

obratiti pozornost na detalje. Ta pravila su<br />

duboko usađena i u glavne smjernice Odiena.<br />

The boy scout motto is to “be prepared”.<br />

And since I was a 13 year old scout, I<br />

have used this motto in my approach to<br />

everything in life from sports to business.<br />

Other simple rules I adhere to are to listen<br />

commit yourself to excellence and pay attention<br />

to detail. These are all part of our<br />

core Odien values as well.<br />

received?<br />

„Budi obazriv i nastoj uvijek vidjeti dobro u<br />

bila izvor mudrosti.<br />

“Be thoughtful and always see the best in<br />

people. And by golly, if you are going to do<br />

something, do it right!” My mom was always<br />

a fountain of wisdom.<br />

Vjerujem da zadovoljstvo u privatnom životu<br />

puno utječe na poslovni uspjeh. Ravnoteža<br />

i zdrav život su ključ uspjeha. Uvijek se<br />

trudim izdvojiti dovoljno vremena za obitelj,<br />

prijatelje, ali i za sebe.<br />

I am a big believer that being happy in your<br />

private life has a big influence on being happy<br />

at work. Balance and healthy living is<br />

key. I make sure to allocate enough time for<br />

family, friends and for myself.<br />

Što volite raditi tijekom godišnjeg<br />

odmora?<br />

What do you like to do on vacation?<br />

Veliki sam obožavatelj aktivnog i avanturističkog<br />

odmora, posebice boravka na<br />

otvorenom i u planinama. Idealan odmor<br />

za mene je ribolov u izoliranim područjima<br />

poput Aljaske. Povremeno ipak volim provoditi<br />

vrijeme opuštajući se na plaži.<br />

I’m a big fan of active and adventure holidays,<br />

the outdoors and especially the<br />

mountains. The best vacation for me is a<br />

fly-fishing expedition in a remote setting like<br />

Alaska. But every so often I do indulge myself<br />

in a beach holiday!<br />

What is your favorite meal? Music?<br />

Sport?<br />

JOmiljeno jelo mi je turska delicija 'manti'.<br />

To su izvorni turski ravioli u umaku od<br />

jogurta i češnjaka, preliveni umakom od<br />

rajčice. Puno su boljeg okusa no što isprva<br />

zvuči.<br />

Od glazbe uglavnom slušam sve osim jazza,<br />

a najdraža mi je glazba 80-ih.<br />

Volim sve sportove, no najdraži mi je Američki<br />

nogomet.<br />

Meal – My favorite meal is a Turkish dish<br />

called manti. It’s essentially a Turkish ravioli<br />

in a yogurt-garlic sauce with a crest of buttered<br />

tomato sauce. It tastes a lot better<br />

than it sounds.<br />

Music – I listen to everything with the exception<br />

of Jazz, but my favorite is 80s<br />

music.<br />

Sport – I love all sports but my favorite is<br />

American Football.<br />

terms of fitness/sports?<br />

Naravno! Baveći se sportom naučio sam<br />

puno toga u životu. Uživam igrati nogomet,<br />

košarku i odbojku na plaži. Redovito vježbam<br />

iako mi tijelo to ponekad ne dopušta. Svaki<br />

hotel u kojem odsjedam mora imati fitness<br />

centar. Zasigurno ste primjetili da je prvo<br />

poboljšanje u Lavu bio upravo fitness centar!<br />

Certainly! I gained a lot from sports in<br />

my life. I enjoy playing soccer, basketball<br />

and beach volleyball even if my body disagrees<br />

sometimes and I work-out regularly.<br />

Every hotel I stay in must have a fitness<br />

center. You must have noticed that one of<br />

the first upgrades we did in LML was the<br />

fitness center!<br />

Jeste li imali priliku iskusiti život tv<br />

voditelja u emisiji “Svijet sokolarstva”?<br />

Did you get to experience the life of<br />

a TV host in the “World of Falconry”<br />

program?<br />

Ukoliko pod iskustvom smatrate biti zatočen<br />

usred noći na pustim stazama Kirgistanskih<br />

planina na visini od 3200m, onda<br />

jesam. To sigurno nije bio glamurozan život<br />

tv voditelja kakav biste očekivali, no donio<br />

mi je mnoštvo uspomena i zabave.<br />

If you call getting stuck at night on desolate<br />

dirt track path at 3200 meters in the Kyrgyzstan<br />

mountains an experience, then yes.<br />

It certainly wasn’t the glamorous life of a<br />

TV host you might expect but good fun and<br />

certainly memorable.<br />

Kada biste mogli voditi razgovor s nekom<br />

povijesnom ličnosti, tko bi to bio?<br />

If you could talk to one person from<br />

history, who would it be and why?<br />

Teško mi se odlučiti za jednu osobu s obzirom<br />

da vrlo dobro poznajem povijest. Ipak,<br />

izdvojio bih Lewisa& Clarka jer sam se oduvijek<br />

divio njihovim avanturama i volio bih<br />

da sam sudjelovao u njihovoj ekspediciji.<br />

This is tough because I’m a history buff.<br />

But I’ve always admired adventurers so I’ll<br />

go with Lewis & Clark. I would’ve like to<br />

have been on that expedition.<br />

OMIŠ<br />

Osim što je poznat kao gusarski grad, u Omišu<br />

je poznata i utvrda Mirabela koja je služila<br />

kao promatračnica neprijatelja. Tako su<br />

u 16. stoljeću omiški branitelji otjerali Turke,<br />

jer su vikom i pucnjavom činili jeku zbog koje<br />

su ostavljali dojam mnogobrojnosti, što je<br />

natjeralo neprijatelje da se povuku.<br />

Aside from being known as pirate town,<br />

Omiš is famous for its Mirabela fortress<br />

used as watchtower for enemies. In the<br />

16th century, defenders from Omiš repulsed<br />

the Turks away because their yelling<br />

and shooting made an echo which left the<br />

impression of multiplicity, forcing the enemies<br />

to retreat.<br />

SPLIT<br />

Svi ljubitelji kulturne baštine mogu uživati<br />

u mnogobrojnim povijesnim atrakcijama<br />

kojima Split obiluje, a među njima svakako<br />

treba izdvojiti katedralu Sv. Dujma, prvotno<br />

sagrađenu kao mauzolej rimskog cara Dioklecijana<br />

u 4. stoljeću koja je poznata i kao<br />

najstarija katedrala na svijetu. U samom<br />

centru drevne Dioklecijanove palače skrila se<br />

i uličica „Pusti me proć“ – koja slovi kao jedna<br />

od najužih na svijetu.<br />

SINJ<br />

Samo 30ak kilometara od Splita nalazi se<br />

grad Sinj koji je poznat po viteškom turniru<br />

Sinjska alka, jedini preživjeli primjer srednjovjekovnog<br />

viteškog natjecanja koja su se<br />

redovito održavala u hrvatskim obalnim gradovima<br />

sve do 19. stoljeća. Tijekom natjecanja,<br />

vitezovi jašu na konjima niz glavnu ulicu,<br />

ciljajući kopljem željezni prsten koji visi na<br />

užetu. Kroz turnir se isprepliću vjerski obredi<br />

i društvena okupljanja koja promiču poštenu<br />

igru i održavanje tradicije.<br />

Only 30km away from Split is situated<br />

the city of Sinj, which is known for knights<br />

tournament Sinjska alka, the only remaining<br />

example of medieval knights competitions<br />

which were regularly held in Croatia’s<br />

coastal cities until 19th century. During<br />

the tournament, knights are riding horses<br />

along main street, aiming lances at an iron<br />

ring hanging on a rope. The tournament is<br />

an event which intertwines religious ceremonies<br />

and social gatherings, promoting<br />

fair play and cherishing tradition.<br />

TROGIR<br />

Proglašen najljepšim gradom-otokom na<br />

svijetu i stavljen pod zaštitu UNESCO-a, Trogir<br />

inspirira posjetitelje čuvenim uvalama te<br />

brojnim crkvama, kulama i palačama koje<br />

svjedoče o iznimno zanimljivoj i značajnoj<br />

prošlosti ovog malog grada. O tome svjedoči<br />

i činjenica da je upravo u Trogiru otvorena<br />

prva ljekarna u Europi 1271.godine.<br />

Cultural heritage enthusiasts can take pleasure<br />

from numerous historical attractions in<br />

Split. The most distinguished one is Cathedral<br />

of St. Domnius, initally built as mausoleum<br />

of roman emperor Diocletian in 4th century<br />

and also known as the oldest cathedral<br />

in the world. Nearby located is an alley „Let<br />

me pass“, known as one of the narrowest<br />

streets in the world.<br />

Decalred as the most beautiful city-island<br />

in the world and included on the UNESCO<br />

World Heritage List, Trogir inspires its visitors<br />

with memorable bays and numerous<br />

churches, towers and palaces which are<br />

considered as testimonies of interesting<br />

and significant history of this minuscule<br />

town. This is evidenced by the fact that<br />

Trogir is the place of origin of first opened<br />

pharmacy in Europe in 1271.<br />

KORNATI<br />

Kornatski arhipelag sastoji se od mnogo<br />

malih i nenaseljenih otoka, otočića i hridi što<br />

podržava staru izreku: „Koliki je broj dana u<br />

godini, toliki je broj kornatskih otoka”. Oni su<br />

poznati po bizarnim oblicima stijena te osobito<br />

visokim klifovima. Najveći ljubitelji Kornata<br />

su nautičari, koji su pronašli na ovom<br />

području ono što oni najviše traže: suncem<br />

natopljen labirint mora i otoka u prekrasnoj<br />

netaknutoj prirodi.<br />

The Kornati archipelago consists of plenty<br />

small and uninhabited islands, islets and<br />

reefs which endorse the old saying: “As is the<br />

number of days in a year, so is the number<br />

of the Kornati islands”. They are famous for<br />

the peculiar shapes of reefs and crags but<br />

particularly for their high cliffs. Yachtsmen<br />

adore Kornati for its sun soaked warren of<br />

sea and islands set in beautiful intact nature.<br />

TELAŠĆICA<br />

Smješten je u središnjem dijelu istočne obale<br />

Jadranskog mora, zaljev Telašćica je poznat<br />

po iznimnoj ljepoti, bogatstvu i značaju. Tri<br />

temeljna fenomena predstavljaju osnovna<br />

obilježja ovog područja: jedinstvena uvala<br />

Telašćica kao najsigurnija, najljepša i najveća<br />

prirodna luka na Jadranu s 25 malih plaža;<br />

litice Dugog otoka ili takozvane „stene” uzdižu<br />

se do 161 m nadmorske visine i dosežu<br />

dubinu do 90 m,; i slano jezero „Mir” s ljekovitim<br />

svojstvima.<br />

Located in the central part of the eastern<br />

coast of the Adriatic Sea Telašćica<br />

Bay is known for extreme beauty, richness<br />

and importance. Three basic phenomena<br />

represent the basic characteristics of this<br />

area: the unique Telašćica Bay as the safest,<br />

most beautiful and largest natural port<br />

of the Adriatic with 25 small beaches, the<br />

cliffs of Dugi Otok or the so-called “stene”<br />

rising up to a height of 161 meters above<br />

the sea and reaching down to a depth of<br />

90 meters, and the salt lake “Mir” with its<br />

medicinal properties.<br />

ŠIBENIK<br />

Šibenik, poznat i kao grad kralja Petra Krešimira IV, jedan<br />

je od najstarijih hrvatskih gradova i ujedno prvi u svijetu<br />

čije su ulice zasvijetlile na principu izmjenične struje 1895.<br />

godine. Iste je godine na rijeci Krki proradila i hidroelektrana<br />

na Skradinskom buku - samo dva dana nakon puštanja<br />

u pogon one na Niagarinim slapovima te se smatra prvom<br />

otvorenom hidroelektranom u Europi. Među brojnim suvenirima<br />

koje turisti kupuju, najpoznatiji je šibenski bagatin,<br />

novac koji je Šibenik kovao još u doba Mletaka.<br />

Šibenik, known as the city of King Petar Krešimir IV, is one<br />

of the oldest Croatian cities and also the first in the world<br />

whose streets flashed on the principle of alternating current<br />

in 1895. This was also a year of opening hydropower<br />

plant on Skradinski buk on the Krka River - only two days<br />

after opening the one on Niagara Falls - and is considered<br />

the first open hydropower plant in Europe. Furthermore,<br />

among numerous souvenirs, the most celebrated one is<br />

the coin “Šibenik bagatin”, minted during Venice era.<br />

NP PAKLENICA<br />

Nacionalni park Paklenica je raj za planinare i penjače te posjetitelje<br />

iz cijelog svijeta koji dolaze osvajati svoje vrhove. NP<br />

Paklenica obuhvaća najatraktivnije dijelove južnog Velebita, a<br />

njegova najupečatljivija obilježja su dva kanjona - Velika i Mala<br />

Paklenica. Park je također poznat među ljubiteljima Winnetou<br />

filmova jer su snimani u nacionalnom parku.<br />

National park Paklenica is heaven for mountaineers and climbers<br />

and visitors from all over the world are coming to conquer its<br />

peaks. NP Paklenica covers the most attractive parts of the southern<br />

Velebit, and its most striking features are two canyons - Velika<br />

and Mala Paklenica. The park is also well known among the fans of<br />

Winnetou movies, where it was filmed.<br />

Čudan je svat bio Vasko Lipovac; umjetnik sudbinski ozračen<br />

zavičajnošću i tradicijom ali istovremeno potpuno otvoren suvremenosti.<br />

Nikad ovisan o kurentnim trendovima u koje bi<br />

uskakao poput slijepog putnika već prvenstveno usmjeren na<br />

propitkivanja mogućnosti drugog i drugačijeg likovnog pogleda.<br />

A nalazio ga je bez obzira na odabrane likovne forme, na<br />

materijal i stilske mijene. Svojevrsna „zavičajna nostalgija“ bila<br />

je i postala prepoznatljiva crvena nit koja se provlačila Lipovčevim<br />

opusom od samih početaka. Prisutna čak i u onoj ranoj<br />

fazi „antropomporfne geometrije“ sa stilizacijama jedrenjaka i<br />

riba, zaigranih sportaša od uglačanog metala nalik boćarskim<br />

čunjevima ili starih pomoraca i njihovih mladenki svedenih na<br />

geometrijske likove. Bili su to začeci osebujne ikonografije kojoj<br />

je Vasko — kao rođeni Kotoranin — ostao trajno vjeran;<br />

ikonografije koja je u svojoj osnovi dalmatinska i mediteranska.<br />

No nikad očitana kao sankrosanktni totem, kao strogo definiran<br />

kanon. Dapače. Bila je predložak za reinterpretaciju, za<br />

osobnu reviziju. S obilatom dozom topline i onog suptilnog Lipovčevog<br />

humora. Rekao bih i duhovitih višeznačnih „posvajanja“<br />

i resemantiziranja nekih općih mjesta iz povijesti umjetnosti.<br />

Ne samo baroknih interijera kapetanskih tinela s votivnim<br />

slikama njihovih brodova, klasičnih portreta brkatih pomoraca<br />

ispred svojih lađa i topovnjača već i duhovitog naslanjanja na<br />

Magrittea s marinerima kojima je u ustima lula, na glavi kapetanske<br />

kape stilizirane poput polucilindra ili pak stari jedrenjaci.<br />

Kao prepoznatljive karake ili radikalne geometrijske stilizacije.<br />

Repertoar upotpunjuju crteži, grafike i slike mornarskih<br />

spoža, parobroda i jedrenjaka, zaigranih kupača u idiličnom<br />

plavetnilu ili pak prijeteće „nevere ča se valja“ — kako bi kazala<br />

pjesma — usred kotorskog fjorda... I ova izložba nije tek<br />

pokazna vježba Lipovčeve ikonografije Dalmacije i mediterana<br />

već i pametan zbir krajputaša ključnih Vaskovih stilskih mijena<br />

i čudesnog puta od geometrijskih redukcija i minimalizma<br />

ka „deskripciji“ i figurativnoj stilizaciji. Čak i začetaka erotskog<br />

ciklusa koji je prošao dugačak put od geometrije obnaženih<br />

„valjaka“ i „kugli“, antropomorfnih „cona“ do prepletenih kuglasto-putenih<br />

volumena koji su u kasnijim fazama dobili i jasne<br />

fizionomije. Kao simboli jednog vremena prošlog — a opet i<br />

mitske dalmatinske i mediteranske izvanvremenosti — ili pak<br />

kao sveprisutni otisci emocionalnog umjetnikovog rukopisa i<br />

zavičajne prtljage djetinjstva.<br />

Vasko Lipovac was the odd man out; artist predestined to be<br />

irradiated by regionalism and tradition, yet at the same time<br />

fully open to new modernity. He never relied on current trends<br />

to jump on in as a fare dodger, but was primarily focused on<br />

review of possibilities of another and different art view. And<br />

he found it, regardless of the chosen art form, material and<br />

shift of style. A kind of “regional nostalgia” was and remained<br />

recognizable red thread running through Lipovac’s work from<br />

the very beginnings. It was present even in that early phase of<br />

“anthropomorphic geometry” with stylizations of sailing boats<br />

and fish, shiny metal playful athletes resembling ninepins or<br />

old seafarers and their brides reduced to geometric shapes.<br />

Those were the seeds of particular iconography that Vasko,<br />

as a native of Kotor, remained forever faithful to; iconography<br />

that is basically Dalmatian and Mediterranean, yet never read<br />

as sacrosanct totem pole, as strictly defined canon. Quite the<br />

opposite. It was a model for reinterpretation, for personal revision.<br />

With ample dose of warmth and that subtle Lipovac<br />

humour. And I would say witty ambiguous “adoptions” and<br />

resemantizations of some general places from art history.<br />

Not only with baroque interiors of captains’ living rooms with<br />

votive images of their ships, classic portraits of moustached<br />

seafarers in front of their vessels and gunboats, but by funny<br />

leaning on Magritte with sailors having pipes in their mouths,<br />

captains’ caps on their heads, stylized as bowler hats or even<br />

old sailboats. As recognizable carracks or radical geometric<br />

stylizations. The repertoire is complemented with drawings,<br />

graphics and paintings of seafarers’ brides, steamboats and<br />

sailboats, playful bathers in idyllic blue or even threatening<br />

“rolling storm” — as the song says — in the middle of Kotor<br />

fjord... This exhibition is not only demonstration exercise of Lipovac<br />

Dalmatian and Mediterranean iconography, but a clever<br />

aggregate of roadside monuments to key Vasko’s stylistic<br />

shifts and amazing way from geometric reductions and minimalism<br />

to “description” and figurative stylization. And even of<br />

the origins of erotic cycle that had gone a long way from geometry<br />

of naked “cylinders” and “spheres”, anthropomorphic<br />

“ninepins” to interwoven spherical-sensual volumes, that got<br />

clear physiognomies in later phases. As symbols of time past<br />

— and again of mythical Dalmatian and Mediterranean timelessness<br />

— or as omnipresent imprints of artist’s emotional<br />

handwriting and childhood homeland luggage.<br />
